Shoulder surgery can feel like a full stop, but for Stevie Lee, it's just a comma on his journey to full health. As your host, I'm taking you through Stevie's road to recovery before we transition onto the field where the UT football team is firing up for the season. We've got a playbook full of insights from the spring game, where the offense showcased depth galore and a thrilling potential with a trio of quarterbacks ready to take the reins. But it isn't all smooth sailing; we navigate the choppy waters of a possible quarterback controversy and what it could mean for the team's dynamic.

On defense, the Longhorns are no less impressive, the spotlight and a secondary that's as deep as Texas is big. We've got our eyes on the front lines too, as leadership vacancies leave room for new stars to emerge and shape a defense that can withstand the offensive onslaught of the SEC. Speaking of which, we don't just throw around the football; we tackle the Longhorns' impending move to the SEC with candor, dissecting whether they're ready for the big leagues and if they can shoulder the weight of expectation.

But we're more than just football fanatics here; we're storytellers at heart. From the youngest number one seed in NBA history to the resilience of the UT baseball team, we cover the bases of sports news with the same passion. And in perhaps our most personal segment, I open up about my own adoption story—a narrative that's shaped my life and finds echoes in the experiences of so many others. It's an episode that's as rich and varied as life itself—a testament to triumph, struggle, and the enduring spirit of sports.

Speaker 1:

Thanks for watching this episode of Stories Inside the man Cave Podcast, and this episode is brought to you by the fine Americans at Hargrove Roofing.

Speaker 2:

Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof.

Speaker 1:

Stevie Lee does it the best Hands down. Well, happy Sunday to you, stevie. He's his own normal self, but he's not. I think he has some uh new additions, or a cleaned up shoulder, so to speak. How do we describe, since we last talked two weeks ago, just a fyi to the viewer and listener uh, stevie's had some issues, as we all do. Uh, as we get older, and you played a uh physical position, a defensive line, where you're banging shoulders all the time. What did you have done to your shoulder? Because, for someone who's just a few days removed from the OR, you look pretty damn good, I appreciate it, man.

Speaker 2:

I had a friend tell me that Horseshoe Bay Jet Skis did to me what football couldn't do to me. So I got a repair rotator cuff just repaired what Five days ago? Wow, I'm hopped up on a little bit of pain pills, painkillers, but I'm winging off of them, so I'm happy about that. I never want to be on those things. So I'm feeling really good now. Follow up with the doctor this week, but he felt like the surgery went very, very well. He said that it's fixed but it's not healed. So I got to wait till it heals and start my rehab, man. But it's a tough surgery, man, or tough recovery, because that first day after surgery was painful. I had to turn up the juice on the catheter, the nerve blocker. So that thing, that first day, is not fun. But I'm getting around the corner now.

Speaker 1:

Well, I'm glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. Any type of procedure is not pleasant for anybody, but much less a a shoulder. Um. But you're gonna be back just in time, I would assume, for the summer activities. But I have a feeling you're gonna move a little. You're gonna be thinking twice before certain moves yeah, I'm never.

Speaker 1:

I've retired from my jet ski career, so that's probably kind of like david hamilton, um, former texas baseball shortstop. He's probably retired from the scooters because it tore his achilles tendon a few years back and knocked him out before the year even started. But you know that's. We're happy to see it, stevie, and we're happy you're going to be a new guy, so on, at least on that shoulder side. Yep, absolutely well, let's move forward. And you know, you saw it, hargrove Roofing, and we love it when Stevie does it. They're our friends, they are huge sponsors of the podcast's existence in itself, but especially when Stevie's involved. And one thing you know about Hargrove Roofing what is it, stevie?

Speaker 2:

Hargrove Roofing know who's on your roof.

Speaker 1:

That's exactly right. And you know what else Hargrove is. They are fans of the long horns and that is where we're going to dive in right now.

Speaker 3:

For Manning today Going deep as a receiver open, it's Isaiah Bond. Off to the races. Touchdown Bond.

Speaker 1:

So there it is. The UT football spring game concluded spring camp on Saturday. It was known before that Arch Manning was going to receive a lot of snaps in that spring game and to see his development hooked up with the transfer receiver, isaiah Bond. It was good to see that. But as far as offensively, let's start on that side of the ball. What did you see? Maybe that you thought is encouraging or main, and then also add to that what you think not really a concern but may need some work before fall camp starts.

Speaker 2:

Okay, let's start with the positive. For me, man, everything was pretty positive. Good, you know. So we lost some big-time receivers, right, and a tight end, right. So I wanted to see what the talent level was going to be after losing two top receivers and a tight end. And, if I'm being honest with you, man, I don't see any drop-off right now. Wow, those kids. Isaiah Bond you just see him go deep, like Worthy could do. And then you got a couple of other receivers that play, like Adelon Mitchell.

Speaker 2:

So, in my mind, we got. We may have lost two, but we may have gained four. You know what I mean. So we got some good receivers across the board. The whole receiver room is still good, you know. So I think you know that part of the offense is doing well. We already had good running backs, and the surprise to me is we got two really good quarterbacks that could play right now, but we got a third, the freshman that's balling as well. So the future on offense looks very, very bright, and when you have athletes like we do right now and an offensive genius mind in our head coach, I see that the future is pretty bright right now on offense.

Speaker 1:

It's a good take. You know I saw most of it. I didn't see all of it. I had a busy day on Saturday but I made sure to watch and try to evaluate from an objective point of it. Didn't see all of it, had a busy day on Saturday, but I made sure to watch and try to evaluate from an objective point of view.

Speaker 2:

Was that not objective? Was I not being objective?

Speaker 1:

Oh, no, no. No, that was objective. I was trying to be objective. What do you tell those? In a short response to those who say there may be a quarterback controversy between Manning and yours yeah, see, I don't see that man right now.

Speaker 2:

Now if we get into the season. And yours, for me, always had the problem with the deep ball.

Speaker 4:

Right right.

Speaker 2:

He just hit Isaiah Bond in stride, right. So that could be something that we worked on in the offseason or working on in the spring or in camp. He does that better. There's no question. He's our QB1 if he can stay healthy throughout the whole season.

Speaker 2:

I think they're taking the old school approach with Arch Manning because of his name, his uncle, his pedigree. Back in my day as a quarterback, you knew you were coming in, you were going to redshirt and then you're going to sit behind a starter and learn the offense. That's two years that you're going to not play not really play but now everyone is in this immediate, instant gratification world. They want people to come in and play right away. Right? Coach Sharkeesian's playbook, that's just the first half of his playbook, yeah, you know. So if Arch Manning can take in the information that's in Coach Sharks' head, it's going to take him two years to know exactly what he's trying to do. So they can be on the same page. So I think this is building up to be an awesome. Next five years, offensively for this program, and then five years can turn into 10, 10 can turn into 15. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, right, right, yeah, there's no controversy man. Yours is our guy and he needs to be our guy for right now.

Speaker 1:

And you mentioned the third quarterback, trey Owens, a freshman. His daddy was a former SFA offensive lineman, by the way, and both are man K VIP alumni, alumnus, alumni man. And so, trey, really, I thought I'm not being biased here either I thought Trey had a good scrimmage. I thought Trey made some zips, some passes into some tight windows and the kid just I know there are only 30, 35,000 fans there, but that's the first time for him to have play in that stadium with that many people and I think how he responded I thought was really good for a freshman. So to all you fans, there's no controversy, quinn, yours is a guy, but there's two great ones right behind him.

Speaker 2:

Right behind him. So be happy that we got some good talent to come and you'll be in the watch for a long time 100%.

Speaker 1:

Hey, let's talk defense now, and let's hear from one of the prides of DeSoto, Texas defensive back, Malik Muhammad, earlier in the week talking about his perspective of this UT secondary the depth, us being young but old at the same time. We got physical guys that can fly around make plays on the ball. So, from what you see, I love that. I love it because I love corners, safeties, nickel, whatnot. Now I am biased toward that position, there's no doubt. But is this the deepest? Or with a good combination of athleticism and guys that are able to come up and stuff the run?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so they are deep, but you're right, I like the way they come in and help and run defense. So they're deep and fast, but they can also be real, real physical um, and with physical dbs you also have to have depth, right. He's right that they're young, but they're, but they're old. What he means by that guys is they are young but they're experienced, right. So we played a lot of young freshmen and sophomores last year. Now those guys have the experience to go out there and play, but they're still a young defensive back. So he's exactly right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and if you go down past the linebackers now the defensive line you do have a concern. But Barron Sorrell, who I really enjoy watching. Now, if you go down past the linebackers now the defensive line, you do have a concern. But Baron Sorrell, who I really, really enjoy watching his development and his play on the defensive line. I mean, the elephant in the room is who's going to step up and be the leader in place of two future NFL guys who are about to be drafted, that being Tavondre Sweat and Byron Murphy. And this is what Barron had to say about that. You know, because those guys are still close, still tight.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, definitely miss my guys, man, but it's been good still. We still. I mean, they set a new standard. We set a new standard together last year. So that's the standard we're playing to and that's the standard I'm going to hold everybody to on the defensive line.

Speaker 1:

So you're a defensive lineman, fellow defensive lineman, you were in the interior when you hear that, what is he trying to say, or what did you see? That that was really truly truth-telling about the front on the defense.

Speaker 2:

So you know, I went to practice and I thought that we were a little bit open on our defensive line. But watching them play in the spring game they're developing still. We might still need to hit the portal for some depth this offseason. But I don't know, man, the D-line having two leaders leading like that. But if those leaders led like they're supposed to, new leaders will just pop right in and be a leader on that defensive line. We also got to remember we lost a future Hall of Fame coach on D line. Right he he's a top notch recruiter, top notch defensive tackles coach.

Speaker 1:

What's up, my Bo Jackson? I met Bo Jackson, bo Davis that went to LSU.

Speaker 2:

So he's he is, he's, he's been replaced. And now we we've got to replace two All-Americans at defensive line. But I think it can be done because of leadership, leadership that we had last year. But you know that's our uphill battle. If there was anything negative that came out of this spring ball was we've got to work at defensive tackle, at the defensive tackles position.

Speaker 1:

That's fair. And you know, and there will be a lot of talk about the defensive line, because there that may be the part that we're talking about, where they they need to fill the holes, and one of which I think is going to help, and that's Alfred Collins, and this is how he began the orange and white game, when you were as one of his full, full, first few snaps of that game With the play action fake that one batted and intercepted by Alfred Collins the big man.

Speaker 3:

Take it into the house.

Speaker 2:

I think everything happens for a reason. And the people that were above me, I really looked up to them. You know the way they went about things, the way they work, uh, and now you know, it's my turn and I'm excited.

Speaker 1:

So he's. He's been around a while fifth year, uh, from cedar creek high school in the bass drop independent school district. Um, the guy that was highly recruited, um, he showed signs, showed flashes, uh, throughout his career and there were some times he put it together last year Obviously a Longhorn legacy. His mother, benita Pollard, was a really good basketball player for Jody Conrad in the women's basketball program. But, alfred, great awareness play, that's a defensive line, a dream to happen in the scrimmage. But what is your take on him and his role and maybe his development as well?

Speaker 2:

Well, you know what he said in his interview just now. Spoke to the leadership we were already talking about. He saw how they work and how they put it together and so he's wanting to do the same thing work and how they put it together, and so he's wanting to do the same thing. So, but yeah, you know, he has to come along and develop and be that leader. He's the fifth year been around, for a while and, like you said, he's a legacy and so, being a Longhorn, learning how well, teaching the younger kids how to be a Longhorn, how to be a defensive tackle, a longhorn defensive tackle, which is special, you know, I see you, yeah, which is special, so it's him being a leader and also leading by example.

Speaker 2:

When you lead by example, you know you can take your game to a whole other level, and so this offseason is going to be really, really important for that defensive line room, for the defensive lines coach, for the defensive coordinator, to game plan around these guys. So I feel optimistic. That was the only negative part about the defense for me was defensive line. The defense for me was, uh, defensive line, we have to replace those big shoes. But I really feel optimistic that we can get it done because, um, those guys understand what they lost and what they need to work to get, to get back I've got to ask you this.

Speaker 1:

So you talked about defensive line, possibly potentially obviously replacing murphy, who's a dog, and then to Vondre speaks for himself. I wonder about linebacker and we're talking multiple layers, meaning outside, inside what would justify my thought of having a concern there?

Speaker 2:

Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if I'm off base because I know they're good. There's talent there, yeah.

Speaker 2:

No, it's valid because you know if there's some down, some downgrades on the defensive line, then you put some strain on your linebackers. But they look pretty good to me. They're still flying around. You just got to be. You know, it's almost like for me it was D-line and the linebacker my linebacker. You know, we had to be on the same page and the chemistry has to be there, almost like the center and the quarterback. So I think we'll work on that throughout the year. I don't think that there's a there should be any kind of concern there.

Speaker 1:

So no big drop off. Well, you know it's. You know, what a lot of people don't understand is a. Well, a lot of people do. Longhorn fans are very high-level IQ when it comes to how the game is played. But a linebacker essentially a defensive lineman will be the ultimate team player, as you know, and take on double teams so linebackers can make those big plays and shoot the gaps. I mean, obviously you've got one of the best. I mean David Benda, you've got one of the best. And Anthony Hill, who was a five-star guy second year in the program sophomore. The one guy that I would love to see that transferred from Alabama, who's from Duncanville, is Kendrick Blackshire. I want to see what he does, I want to see his development. And then, of course, maurice Blackwell Jr from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He's a senior. There's just a ton of guys that could be that next great linebacker and I don't know who it's going to be.

Speaker 1:

Anthony Hill obviously is going to have the most highest expectations.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, In my opinion. Well, we always see cream rising to the top. We'll see.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we'll definitely see Well, the Longhorns open up, with Jay Norvell and his Colorado State Rams first, then it's the first weekend, I believe, in September, at Michigan, the defending national champs and 11 am kickoff time in Ann Arbor.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I saw that big noon kickoff right. Yeah, yeah, must have been fun.

Speaker 1:

So Billy Lucci he was right up there with Jeff Ketchum. Jeff Ketchum started Orange Bloods, Billy Lucci started Texags and he's really done a great job. And Aggie, through and through. He loves toying with Texas fans on Twitter who come after him and it's funny. But Billy Lucci was a guest on the SEC podcast and they were talking about the Texas fans. Maybe might want to tap the brakes with all of the expectations that they have on possibly entering the SEC and winning it in this first year. Now let me preface this by saying this the last year, the Southwest Conference Texas won it. The very next year, first year, the Big 12 Texas won it. The last year of Texas in the Big 12, they just won it. So if the trend continues, there you go, there you go. So this is the segment I wanted you guys to see if they ran the conference yeah, shitty conference.

Speaker 5:

So they beat alabama, which I would argue is a different team than ended the season it was.

Speaker 3:

I think it would have went different, but but they did it there right, so easily, right.

Speaker 5:

So I believe that they are just on this path, that they're going to come over here and win an SEC championship year one. I feel like they're the same win total as Georgia.

Speaker 4:

It's insane.

Speaker 5:

You said something earlier. Coming from the Big 12, you knew Big 12 football. You came over here and then what was it? The Florida Gators. They punched you in the mouth. It was like a wake-up call for the SEC. How many games in before Texas realizes that? Wait, this water's a little deeper than I thought, if Jim.

Speaker 2:

Harbaugh had stayed up there it may have been two games in a Big Ten team in Michigan, I mean OK, all right. I know, some people. Some people get paid to be haters, you know.

Speaker 1:

Well, he does it to trigger Texas fans. I mean, billy Lucci is a great business mind. We need to have him on here with us, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, and so a lot of people think that you know, and we had our friend Danny, on which I saw him on an airplane when I was going up to Chicago.

Speaker 1:

What did y'all have to say?

Speaker 2:

Danny.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Oh, he did nothing. He just shook my hand and he was heading to the back of the plane.

Speaker 3:

So I wanted to wait after this.

Speaker 2:

No, we didn't get to talk much. So Danny said the same thing. Remember, he said you know, we're going to get a rude awakening once we hit the SEC. And so I don't think that people understand. They think that we are going to the SEC thinking that we're going to be good in the SEC by doing the same old thing, the way I saw practice this spring, the way I see this spring game. You know everyone is excited about going to the SEC, but those guys are working. Yeah, they're actually putting in the work right now. So you know, we'll see how it works out in the SEC and I think the water is a little bit deeper than we think Of course, it is Of course it is yeah, but I think that Texas can hold its own and people want to discount that Alabama game.

Speaker 2:

Going into Alabama, beating them, breaking their what? 31-game home running streak that's not easy. And they want to discount that and say, oh well, alabama is a different team at the end of the year. Well, you know, texas was a different team at the end of the year as well. You know what I mean. So if you want to give Alabama the growth, you got to give us the growth as well. So we are still growing. Those kids are out there working and working their tails off and the coaches are coaching their tails off, so it's going to be fine.

Speaker 1:

You heard it here first, stevie Lee the confidence level is just. I will say this If there is a year, I think they're built to do this. I'm not saying that they'll sustain. Let's say they go in there and they go win the SEC in the title game. They win the well, yeah, they won't have divisions this year. This will be top two. They need to fix that. Let's say they win it. I'm not saying sustain. I do think Texas, as long as Sark's here, I do believe that they're going to figure out a way to be relevant every year To Billy Lucci's point that I didn't include on that a lot of people. He said and I've been thinking about this, I thought he was crazy for what he said he said something like A&M's done just fine in the SEC A couple of top 10 finishes, a Heisman Trophy winner, a couple of New Year's 6 games averaging about eight wins a year. That's not awful, it's not.

Speaker 2:

But it's just fine for A&M.

Speaker 1:

I don't think it's just fine. They wouldn't have fired Jimbo.

Speaker 2:

Exactly. Yeah, I'm being sarcastic here, I know.

Speaker 1:

That was funny.

Speaker 2:

It's just fine for them then.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So if it was just fine, you're right they wouldn't have fired Jimbo and send him away with $75 million.

Speaker 1:

He can do whatever he wants.

Speaker 1:

He needs to be managing real estate right now, playing a lot of golf and running up a lot of bar tabs at high-end steakhouses. Big shout out to one of our buddies and a man Cave former VIP guest, jackson Jeffcoat. He went to Plano West High School and this is one of the highest honors I think anyone can receive when you're inducted into your high school's Hall of Honor or Hall of Fame. This one's at the Plano ISD Hall of Honor. Jeffcoat, cleaned up. Look at that New hairdo Like it. Look at that New hairdo Like it. Clean, sharp. He's just a fine American, a fine human being and a good longhorn, so to speak.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he is, yeah, absolutely man Good guy.

Speaker 1:

Red human being, good human being. You can tell that they felt the same of him and you know and shout out to Jackson. Had a few moments in the NFL, honestly had a sack against the Cowboys as a redskin, but really made a name for himself in the Canadian Football League, winning two great cups that's their championship and had a great career and he's called it quits, he's done with football and he's back here in the Austin area. So shout out to Jackson.

Speaker 2:

No question, good job, jeff Cote.

Speaker 1:

Great job, man, he's done well. It's NFL Draft Week and for the first time in a long time, I don't remember this many Longhorns who are probably going to get drafted on the first two days, and quite a few even more. When you really think about how many could be drafted total. Yeah, I mean, who's the first to go? In your opinion, which Longhorn?

Speaker 2:

Oh man, Golly. Okay, it's hard to say because it depends on what the teams need. But, right, you cannot coach 4.2 40, right? Right, you cannot coach the strength and speed of Tavondre, yeah, but you can't also coach a guy like Byron Murphy. He has the mechanics to do both run, stop and get after a quarterback. So it's a toss-up to me actually run, stop and get after a quarterback. It's a toss-up to me actually.

Speaker 1:

Now the defensive tackle that might go first in my opinion is Murphy.

Speaker 2:

I agree, yeah, and so either receiver go first or defensive tackle go first, and I'm going to say a tackle goes first, it'll be Murphy, murphy to be the first Texas, the first Texas player, drafted.

Speaker 1:

What do you think?

Speaker 2:

You think Murphy will be the first player taken from the Longhorns in the draft. I think so, man, because at the receivers position, there are a bunch of other receivers out there that the NFL teams like right now.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I agree with that. We know they don't value running backs in the draft all, right all right, it blows my mind, I think I don't know. I feel like I honestly feel like murphy's stock has quietly been rising and I think he's nothing against tavandre. Tavandre will be on a roster yeah, no question it will.

Speaker 1:

He will be. But there's something about Byron Murphy. That dude is a silent assassin. He will embarrass people. He will embarrass linemen. The dude is rock solid. He's a bulldog man with a lot of ability that I think a lot of people aren't talking about him enough, but I do think there is potentially. What potentially could happen is Adonai Mitchell gets selected before Xavier. Ooh, but they'll be in the same area. But it goes to what team their needs. Yeah, exactly, I mean, xavier is more than likely going to be a really good NFL football player.

Speaker 1:

He's going to be an asset to whoever gives him an opportunity early on. You know, I think Jalen Ford is going to be one of those guys. Third or fourth round, I don't know. Jatavian Sanders day two pick.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Christian Jones, I mean, I think he's really helped himself.

Speaker 2:

That's true, but I still think it's a defensive tackle. No, what are you thinking?

Speaker 1:

That's selected first. I'm going with Murphy man. I like him. That's what I'm trying to say. You're going with Murphy. I'm going with murphy man. I like him. That's what I'm trying to say I'm going with murphy.

Speaker 2:

I thought you were going to go with adonai I think he'll be the first receiver, the first receiver yeah okay, um, and the wild card is jay brooks.

Speaker 1:

he's still listed last check number one available running back in this draft and he's rehabbing that knee.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1:

Are you buying or selling? The Cowboys are going to surprise a lot of people in this draft and trade away assets to build their team.

Speaker 2:

I'm buying it. They were too quiet this off season. They did nothing.

Speaker 1:

They didn't do shit.

Speaker 2:

Crickets out of, out of Dallas man. So they they got to make some big splashes this draft week, some big splashes this draft week Some big splashes.

Speaker 1:

They have to, because right now, and it pains me to say it, but we're not here to take sides, I guess. But yeah, we are sometimes, but the Houston Texans are the better franchise right now.

Speaker 2:

No question. No question, they made some moves.

Speaker 4:

They had a great year and they're young.

Speaker 2:

So CJ Strout has been good. And they said you know what? Let's give him some weapons. And that's exactly what they did before we take a break.

Speaker 1:

I, you know we saw, I love pictures, I love stories and that's going to give a quick shout out. We were all about nonprofit. We're all about all of our charitable organizations anywhere in the country, but I've got to give a shout out to partnerships for children. They were crazy, for they asked me to MC their event, their event, and I obliged. I've done some volunteer work with them and this was at I forgot the name of the facility the Women's Federation Mansion on the UT camp. We're just west of UT.

Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, yeah, I love.

Speaker 1:

Austin. Oh, I left forever but came back. I had no idea what that was. I thought it was a sorority house. It was all this time, a lot of history. Laura Bush was part of it. Yep, who have, I hate to say, underprivileged but going through hard times? A lot of single mothers, single parents and try to find kids, foster families and then forever homes. I was a foster child and then I was adopted, so I told that story. The picture in the middle you know me, I do random things, things.

Speaker 1:

That's me taking a picture of everyone there a little selfie. There's norman and and uh, um, let's see dj, we got good one right there on the bottom left, marquise goodwin, and you've got all these guys that are in these photos, that are in the other table. Dj's uh foundation was uh was the title sponsor, along with some other generous companies.

Speaker 1:

But to the left there that's peter pudgy, who played for texas. He had his career ended shortly, uh, because of a heart condition, I believe. And then there's, uh, david benda right there, who's number 33 currently. Then we got our guy Jay Tuck, who had a really good year as a linebacker I think it was two years ago transferred in, and then there's our guy Norman, and then the Doug Young, the owner of Cover 3.

Speaker 2:

There you go.

Speaker 1:

They're big, big, big to do and involved with Partnership for Children and I think they raised over 200 grand last night.

Speaker 2:

That's awesome.

Speaker 1:

And it's a great, great organization. We have a lot of those in Austin. That's one thing about Austin. Stevie, how would you describe the generosity and Austin's reception to nonprofits that help children, inner city children and whatnot?

Speaker 2:

I think it's second to none. I think there are a lot of organizations out there. You know I've went to another event that you emceed, the RBI, oh yeah yeah. And then having coach not coach CDC Chris Del Conte one day was the keynote speaker for the Boys and Girls Club here in Austin and I've gone to those events. So there's a lot of passion in here in the Austin area for underprivileged kids within academics and athletics. So, everyone around Austin, keep up the good work, Keep pouring your resources into the youth man, really, because they are our future and they'll be taking care of us after a while 100%, and everyone deserves a chance.

Speaker 2:

No question.

Speaker 1:

You know they can't children, they didn't control what they entered the world in and some things just happen that way. We're going to take a quick break. On the other side, in case you weren't aware, there's a team that is the youngest number one seed ever in NBA history. Youngest number one seed, I'll give you a hint. It's north of here and I fell in love with the place and I did something I wasn't supposed to do while I was in the media, and that's fall in love with the team, and I did, and I still have a passion for them. Um, then we're going to talk Texas baseball and a reporter who made an ass out of himself asking a uh, a highly drafted WNBA NBA talent. A stupid question, wow and uh. First, before that, shout out to the Hargrove family and Stevie Lee getting, uh, um, not chosen, a kicker chosen over him. We'll see you on the other side.

Speaker 4:

Today is going to be an exciting day at the Hargrove office as we bring in a local celebrity. Welcome the kicking phenom, bert Auburn, conference champion of the Texas Longhorn football team, all-conference kicker. He's going to be our new spokesman. Bert's the best kicker in the conference. He plays for the Texas Longhorns, as you can see. You know Bert's f***ing awesome. Hey, stevie. Boo you're really replacing me with a kicker. No, no, not at all, man.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, who wants a picture with Stevie? Anyone. Stevie almost won a Big 12 championship. Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof. Outro Music hey, I had to pull out the OKC Thunder shirt for that. There you go, thunder number one seed in the West. Buy or sell. The Thunder will uphold their number one seed and end up in the Western finals.

Speaker 2:

Man, I want to buy it. I'm so sorry I want to, but to wear the crown. You got to beat the crown, and who's wearing the crown right now is Denver. I am a huge Laker and LeBron fan, ad fan and all that stuff, but I don't see them getting past Denver and Denver. Whenever they are on fire, they're on fire, and so Yolkovich he can galvanize that team. I want it's going to be a great series if they both go to the Western Conference Finals, but I don't see them getting past Denver. But you know, you and I can put a wager on it though.

Speaker 1:

Well, I can't. I want them to as a fan, but I'm not betting that when you have youth, I mean. I remember 2011,. Thunder had a great team and they met the Dallas Mavericks, who won it that year and got beaten at Western Semis. Yeah, I think that's what it was.

Speaker 2:

And you can't discount Dallas Mavericks right now, with Kyrie Irving and Luka.

Speaker 1:

Kyrie Irving's, softer than a pillow.

Speaker 2:

He can be. You're right, until it's time to play ball in the playoffs.

Speaker 1:

We'll see. I like Kyrie, I haven't seen it in the playoffs too much. Yeah, I hear you. Just to give you a people insight, we're going to give some thunder love because they earned it Number one seed and they start tonight. They're game one in the Western Conference, first round. But this is Nick Gallo. He started when I was there and so the Thunder have this thing called the Thunder Bark. The team does it after every win and they just start barking like a cue dog and it's so funny. So they got nick and uh, nick gallo if you're watching. Man, much love buddy, a lot of loyalty here did a great job. But I do notice that you have the clench disease and you have a receding hairline back there.

Speaker 1:

but I'm proud of you Go ahead and bark. I haven't seen those guys in a long time. Man, it's fun.

Speaker 2:

You got a little bald spot.

Speaker 1:

That's how it all started for me. That's how it all starts. Embrace it. Yeah. So, stevie Greg Doy doyle, good writer for the indie star, he, he has a tendency sometimes to trigger some people on twitter. Well, caitlin clark, who did a done wonders for the game of women's college basketball selected by the indiana fever. Okay, this is what greg doyle asked her. And listen, if the volume's kind of low, I apologize. The game of women's college basketball selected by the Indiana fever. Okay, well, this is what Greg Doyle asked her. And listen, if the volume's kind of low, I apologize. This is what he asked her. And they were talking about you know, caitlin, does this? The love sign, hand sign. Oh, how'd this happen? We'll do it again. It's a new effect. You do it.

Speaker 2:

Well, I can't. I don't know if I can in my arm.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's right.

Speaker 1:

Well, that was weird. Well, this is what Greg Doyle asked Caitlin in her introductory press conference, and I want you to tell me if it's a little cringy. Hi, caitlin, greg Doyle, indy Star. Real quick, let me do this.

Speaker 3:

You like that.

Speaker 5:

I like that you're here, I like that you're here. I do that at my family after every game, so pretty cool.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine.

Speaker 2:

So question is I don't know, man. You know, sometimes reporters just need to be a reporter and not try to be funny. You know, coach Brown always said when you start to get cute with the media is when you start to get in trouble. So he tried to get cute with her, you know. So I don't think he was trying to be malice about it, but yeah, it was just cringy. You're right, it was cringy Trying to make a joke.

Speaker 1:

Did not like it. He was a fanboy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly Didn't like it.

Speaker 1:

He has since issued an apology to her and the entire cyber world. It's okay, all right. Ut baseball, follow along. Of course. You know everybody expects a championship and to win forever. Win every time. You know there's been a lot of fire.

Speaker 1:

David Pierce tweets all for the past week. You know they lost to UT Rio Grande Valley on a midweek game. That's when you know midweek games are for your developing pitchers. Texas pitching has not had much depth this year and they got hammered at home by UT Rio Grande Valley, who is the 250th ranked team in the country in Division I. I mean beat down, but TCU rolled into town. They're still in contention for the big 12 and the big 12 race. They're still like every. Every one of their goals has is still in front of them. Well, they lost a TCU in game one Friday and five. Nothing just added to the woes.

Speaker 1:

And Danny Davis and Kurt Bowles and I think it was a Kurt Bowles who asked this question about to David who David appointed himself as the pitching coach instead of hiring another pitching coach, and this is what Pierce had to say and I respect this really. He says do you regret becoming the pitching coach yourself and head coach. He says no, not at all. It's a good question, it's a fair question, but at the same time there's a lot of different variables that go along with it. We thought we would have Tanner Witt back. You know he had Tommy John surgery and then re-injured it this year. That's two and a half years removed from his Tommy John surgery. Okay, that's right in here. That's very important for a pitcher. Here's the other part that I think should be taken into consideration. Obviously, that's put pressure on young guys because a couple of transfers pitchers. They've been injured since they've stepped foot on campus. I wouldn't say second-guess myself, but frustrated, yes just like everyone else.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean that's a coach taking. I mean being accountable.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he is being accountable, and it sucks. With Tanner, you know you kind of it seems like they were kind of building their pitching staff around him, right, and then it'd be out two and a half years. That sucks. So he is taking accountability, but how should I put this? This is why we pay you at the university of Texas, too, though. All right, so if adversity hits, we got to go and find something that's going to fix it. That's what we need. We need a better pitching bullpen right now. We got to figure it out and find a way to get there.

Speaker 1:

I agree, most other programs aren't having a problem with it. You know everyone has their problems, but I will say the pride of land passes. Texas has stepped into a role. He may be moved into the number one role. And because yesterday, on Saturday, the Longhorns storm back. It's kind of a pattern Get beat on Fridays, but on Saturday the Longhorns stormed back. It's kind of a pattern you get beat on Fridays, but on Saturday you do things like this.

Speaker 5:

Hates the outside corner for the strikeout. The third of the ballgame for Whitehead.

Speaker 1:

Texas ends up, shutting out TCU 7-0, evening up the series. You know that kid was a great athlete baseball and football player, great quarterback, you know. And the thing that's amazing with him, ace, since he's moved into that role, 43 innings pitched and he's 4-0 in games. He has a 4-0 record, era of 3.32. And Texas is 5-0 whenever Ace pitches.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you said he's from Lampasas.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, johnny Lamb Jones right.

Speaker 2:

Johnny Lamb Jones. You said he's the pride of Lampasas. So who?

Speaker 1:

is the pride, one of the prides, you know. But you know what's cool about Ace who's that Johnny Lamb Jones was one of his heroes.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

He made a tribute to him Growing up. He knew who he was at a young age.

Speaker 2:

Well, I went to that high school and my daughters play volleyball there. They're in the same district, so we have to go play a district game there. They have a whole shrine in in their trophy box.

Speaker 5:

To Johnny Lamb.

Speaker 2:

And Lamb passes yeah To Johnny Lamb. So those kids got to know who Johnny Lamb is over there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he was a great not just a great next level athlete. He was a great human being.

Speaker 2:

Great human being, I heard.

Speaker 1:

I didn't get to spend much time with him, but he was pretty funny.

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

He was kind of very quiet sometimes, but when he spoke people listened or he was hilarious.

Speaker 2:

Yep absolutely.

Speaker 1:

So they went on Saturday and, as we're recording this, look what Texas does Ended up winning the series. There you go, good job Horns. So they're only three games behind OU in the Big 12 race and since they've won, that means that they're now 11-7 in conference play and 24-17 overall. I would assume that their RPI would potentially jump to about 66, 65. They need to get that up into the 40s. You've got to win all these series. You've got to sweep somebody though. They'll play at OU this next weekend.

Speaker 2:

At OU.

Speaker 1:

Gotcha, there's no doubt you won't like this If you had to guess who is the number one team in the country. Let me pause here it is.

Speaker 3:

Shot goes the other way, to left field and that's got some carry. And how about a 3-0? Aggie lead Braden this one's down the right field line on a line Off the wall. Grohovac scores Grohovac high fly ball to left field. Drifting back is Petrus. He's at the wall and Gavin Grohovac sails a two-run home run to left Braden into center field. Mccants going back McCants at the wall.

Speaker 4:

I want to play it low Just to put your misery.

Speaker 2:

They were spanking Alabama bro.

Speaker 1:

Took two or three from them. They score a lot of runs and their pitchers have a solid pitching staff for the most part.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it would sound like they got a good batting rotation as well, man.

Speaker 1:

They do. They're lined up solid, but they hit the portal hard.

Speaker 2:

Yeah they were dinging them off, that bat Ram.

Speaker 1:

They're good. A&m is number one in the country. Do you like that?

Speaker 2:

I mean it is what it is. You know it is what it is right now, but you know, even the sun shines on a dog's ass right.

Speaker 1:

Every Thursday.

Speaker 2:

Or one of those collies that they got over there.

Speaker 1:

Oh, wow, and you know, they bury them right there by Kyle Field.

Speaker 2:

Really.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh, my God, holy Jesus, stevie and his lovely wife Summer. They see a lot of things, get to experience a lot of things, and you know, we all do, but in 120 seconds or less. What's your pro tip in the Austin area for people to experience?

Speaker 2:

Golly, I was going to say this a couple weeks back. There's these boats that you get out on Lake Austin and watch the bats come out from underneath the bridge. Oh Town.

Speaker 3:

Lake.

Speaker 1:

Town.

Speaker 2:

Lake.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Town Lake.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and you can watch it from the bottom of the bridge and it's pretty cool, as the sun is setting and the bats are coming out and you're actually on the water, and it's pretty cool as the sun is setting and the bats are coming out and you're actually on the water and it's pretty neat, man. And so a lot of tourists and locals are out there on the water. There are people on the bridge up there watching it, but then if you're down on the water, it's kind of a different experience. Pro tip go do that one of these days, man.

Speaker 1:

That was fun and go get a drink afterwards.

Speaker 2:

We actually did it as a couples deal we were with Derrick Johnson and his wife, AJ Johnson and his wife, me and my wife.

Speaker 1:

I love AJ, I love DJ.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. Those dudes are funny.

Speaker 4:

And their wives?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly, and so we were all out there on the water on one of those little boats that we rented. We just had a really good time. We brought our own food, our own drinks and our own music. We were having a really good time. It was fun, man.

Speaker 1:

It's not fun when you get crapped on by a bat or peed on.

Speaker 2:

Exactly. That didn't happen. Don't worry about that part. Actually, we had a canopy over us exactly, but that didn't happen. Don't worry about that part. Actually, we had a canopy over us too, so we were fine. That's probably why.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, hey, speaking of a bird shit, right before the banquet yesterday I had a light gray suit on. As you saw, I walked in, I'm checking in getting everything. One of the staff of that facility says oh my saw, I walked in, I'm checking in getting everything. One of the staff of that facility says, oh my God, oh no, a bird took a big old protein dump on the back of my collar of my suit.

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

And club soda really works it did. Shout out to the staff at the Women's Federation building on San Gabriel for taking care of me and my suit. It's going to the cleaners tomorrow. Yeah, shout out to the cleaners, you saved me.

Speaker 2:

I don't want to ask them to discolor it, so take it to the cleaners.

Speaker 1:

Oh my God, hey, tiktoking of the week involves a couple of young people telling jokes uh, they're, they're younger than us, so that means they're younger. But this is pretty funny when the, when, the, uh, the lady in the room fires back what's the difference between a fridge and a butthole?

Speaker 5:

what a fridge doesn't fart when you pull the meat out.

Speaker 3:

Oh, my God.

Speaker 2:

You know what? I'm not touching that one. I'm not going there. Hey Ben, tell me something good, I'm not touching that one.

Speaker 4:

I'm not going there, hey man.

Speaker 1:

Tell me something good, stevie Lee. It's a beautiful Sunday, as you can tell. The hoodie's on Shout-out to Occupy Left Field, but shout-out to the creators of this Last Stand Hats and our good friend Mike Murphy, who is one of the OGs of Stories Inside the man Cave. It's a little cooler today. We've had some rain, much needed rain. I don't want to ever hear somebody complain about how much rain we've had. But tell me something good, my brother.

Speaker 2:

Well, the rain is gone for a little bit right now and it's going to be a nice sunny week. So get out, get some vitamin D on your skin. It's going to be a good week. That's my something good, man. Make it a good week. I got this sling on my shoulder, but I'm ready to get back to work. I'm ready to start moving and shaking and making some deals. So make it a good week, man. That's something good that you're around, you're out and about. It's going to be a beautiful week. Make it a good week, man.

Speaker 1:

I love that man that's always positive, because he's a positive guy and that's great.

Speaker 3:

That's something great.

Speaker 1:

Tell you something good At Partnership for Children.

Speaker 1:

What we went through, the reaction I had. You know our buddy norman. He was right there in front of him and I just knew if I looked at him I was going to start laughing when I was up on that podium. But I'll tell you something good. Well, there are so many people, including ourselves, you donate to or want to help or donate to causes, but yet you really don't know someone who has experienced what that cause is for.

Speaker 1:

Well, I told my story of, as raw as possible, that I was born on my birthday and I was born out. I was born out of wedlock, or created out of wedlock um, or created out of wedlock Um, which is fine, it happens, there's no judgment and that I was in two foster homes and then adopted, and by my wonderful parents, joe and David I mean David and Linda Clinch and then I had a great adopted life and then you know, mom passes and now new opportunities with my biological family that I'm connecting with now. But the amount of people who came up made it out of their way to shake my hand and say that was so authentic and to say how real it made it. Well, it was to help understand what a lot of these kids are experiencing, the authenticity of those who came up to me. I want to thank you Because you truly want to understand and you were listening and there was a great group, everyone there, phenomenal. But you know, if you look around you wouldn't know there are a lot of people who were adopted period.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I'm a small speck in a large ocean of adoptees. We're out there. There's a lot of us.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And thanks to all the families and parents who give kids chances like that Absolutely To the adoption people like PFC. You're loved and appreciated, just like Stevie Lee is. There you go, that's a good way to end it there you go.

Speaker 2:

Thank you for doing that last night, man, and actually sharing your story to the people in the room. Man, that's actually. You know, sometimes it's really hard for people to do so. Hats off to you.

Speaker 1:

Man brother, I appreciate it. It felt like there was a greater power and it was either God and Jesus and my mother, or or they probably teamed up and said let's settle this boy down, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Let him have the words Absolutely man. That's good.

Speaker 1:

Brother, much love, and much love to the Hargrove family. Appreciate you guys always supporting us. And for the OG man Cave Boys, that being Harbaugh Harge, big Mike and D Coach Moe, what do we tell them? Stevie Lee, we out, we out.

Speaker 4:

You see the jumpy, I'm fitted up, I'm in my car in the.

Speaker 2:

Giddy Up, I said get out.
