Speaker 2:Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof. Stevie Lee does it the best.
Speaker 3:Hands down. I genuinely think that it's helping us on the field, but not only me and Jaden, but the other guys Trey Wisner, jared Gibson, christian Clark, even the walk-ons, colin Page we're all. We feel like we all in there together. No one is greater than the other.
Speaker 1:Man, Stevie, you know this all too well and it's a part of football, a very physical game, contact sport. God you hate I mean mean injuries are part of the game but you hate to see any young man in this game go through an injury which ends their season. The young running back, cj baxter that was pretty much the dominant headline of this past week of camp longhorn.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's a tough, tough break, no pun intended. You went through the whole offseason getting ready for the season and you get excited for the season and then this happens the team, his teammates, his running back's room going to rally around him, get the surgery and get back to rehab and he'll be ready to go for the spring.
Speaker 1:That's just protocol. Keep a good attitude Before we move forward with this. Be sure to like all of our social media platforms. I've lost count how many there are, but go ahead. You find us on a social media platform, like it, follow it, subscribe for free to our YouTube page and we appreciate you. And the best part about that subscription, Stevie, it's a four-letter word, free, no charges. We'll give it to you Absolutely. And thank you to these guys on either corner, on the northwest corner and the northeast corner. And then you got Mary on that logo. There, man, Our Hargrove family and Stevie Lee, I love it when you say Hargrove roofing nose on your roof.
Speaker 1:That's right. So the loose CJ Baxter, who was a little injured last year, but he was a good complement with he and Blue and, you know, even dating back to Roshon and Bijon, they've learned from some great ones. But this is Sark talking about how to move forward with the team after losing Baxter.
Speaker 4:As much as we love him for the player that he is, we love him more for the teammate that he is and you know our thoughts and prayers are with him. We're encouraged by all the doctors that he's going to make a really healthy recovery and we'll have him back for next season. So, again, from our perspective, you know we'll be okay. Naturally we're going to have to make some adjustments, like anything. Anytime you lose a player you've got to make some adjustments. But I think that's the value of trying to recruit and recruit at a high level.
Speaker 1:All right, Stevie, you've seen it and we're going to get you guys to visit the Longhorns on Saturday. We'll get to that shortly. But what's your gut feel with this depth? Because there is depth there with good talent, Because there is depth there with good talent, but it does force some younger guys who may be splitting some carries, so to speak.
Speaker 2:I think there is depth there, but there are bodies there, but then there are different types of bodies that you need. You know what I mean. So I think everyone in that running back room that we have are shifty slash guys, right, I don't think that we have the big bruiser that go out and get you three yards when you need just three yards. You know that third and three guy, that four from one guy I'm not sure if they have that guy in that room. Everyone are speedsters, which is great. Everyone are shifty type players, but so you know, switching over to putting a big bruiser back there, like we did with the defensive tackles last year, we don't have that back there. So I'm looking out and seeing who's going to be that third and one type running back, because I think we're going to be perfectly fine in the running back room.
Speaker 1:Okay yeah, weisner, um, jayden blue is now rb1 and the guy is so fast and he's in year three in the program, just like Quinn Ewers. And I liked it. When you see a guy ask questions, that's not football related. But coaches like to put their players in. You know, give them a break from football activities but keep them in competitive atmospheres like pickleball. Jaden Blue. They had a little pickleball tournament amongst the players and Jaden he won the damn thing.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm a very competitive guy. Before, when I found out that we was going, I had told everybody that I was, you know, going to be hard to beat there and I was going for everybody. So you know I'm highly competitive and I like doing things outside of sports.
Speaker 1:You got to like that. I love it. It's good for him, but again, running backs with dreadlocks really do well at Texas.
Speaker 2:They do, they do. Let's keep that tradition alive, for sure.
Speaker 1:What's your thought on that young man? Because he's smart. Yeah, he's talked and mentioned about what he learned from Roshan and Bijan and, of course, really, really expressed a lot of love for Jonathan Brooks. He basically said JB have one great year and he's in the NFL right now despite the injury.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, he's a good kid. You know, as a three-year guy in the program you know you kind of want to be the next man up, but he has welcomed the room, the running back room as a whole you know what I mean Like everyone rotating in and out. So I love his competitive spirit. I think it's great for the program that he is now going to be competing even more for more carries. Once you have inner competition and I'll talk about that when we talk about what we talked about or we saw this Saturday but more competitive spirit within your team, the whole team rises to the top.
Speaker 1:Yeah, competition is good for everybody, no question. And what Stevie's talking about. So this is Sunday and on Saturday I think it was, the Longhorns had their first scrimmage of August camp and you were there. I mean to encapsulate what you saw. If there's three points you want to deliver to the fans, to us to have a conversation about, what are those three points that you witnessed? That may be good, bad, or maybe concerning All right, here we go.
Speaker 2:I'm going to keep it clean so I don't get canceled. No, everything was good, man, I'm feeling really good about this team. No, everything was good, man, I feel really good about this team. What I observed on the defensive line they're better than what I thought they'd be, because you know, we are replacing two big first rounders in there, but the defensive line as a whole all four across the front gotten better. You know what I mean. If that makes sense. So they look good there, which made the offensive line look a little stagnant, you know what I mean. So that question is is our defensive line really that good or our offensive line needs more work? Right, so they were getting push on the quarterbacks. It was fun to watch, it was competitive. That's part of what I was talking about just a minute ago, being competitive. The other thing is we got a really good receiving court. No, doubt.
Speaker 2:Yeah, they can get up and catch the ball. Man Isaiah Bond is going to be great for us. I think we were talking on the sideline with some other old players all the old guys standing in the corner on the sideline and just kind of cut up and we kind of have a little wager going on, no money on the line, or anything like that, because I ain't got it.
Speaker 1:Right.
Speaker 2:But who's going gonna have the most reception? And I'm thinking isaiah bond man. He's gonna have the most receptions this year. Uh, you can, I, you and I can talk about, uh, buying a drink for that one, or not, unless you agree with me, you know so if he has the most receptions and something's going well.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no question, no question. So um, and then then running backs is running back by committee right now and the only thing is I saw with the running backs some of the running backs is I saw the ball on the ground a couple of times. So we want to clean that up and I know they will. They need to just walk around campus with a football in their hand, go to class with a football in your hand.
Speaker 1:Park me blues baby. Yeah, no, Friday night lights.
Speaker 2:Friday night lights yeah. Friday night lights yes, and go to sleep with the ball in your hand. If you walk past one of your football players, your teammates, they need to take a swipe at it and everything. So everywhere you go, you got a football in your hand and you tuck that thing.
Speaker 6:So but not always.
Speaker 2:Yeah, tuck that thing. But no, it was fun to watch the competitive spirit out there. People are scrapping. I love that. I love seeing scraps in practice because that means you want it right. You want to win every single down, even if it is in practice against your teammate, you know. So that was fun and encouraging.
Speaker 1:I love it, you know, and from the images I've seen, I really love the way the defensive ends look.
Speaker 2:See, that's what I'm talking about. Like we were worried about the defensive line because we lost those two guys. But the defensive ends are stepping up. Pk, I think, is going to put some really good schemes in there to like some techs and eds and things like that and run some schemes with some outside linebackers and things like that. We will be perfectly fine on the D-line Baron.
Speaker 1:Sorrell, not because he wears number 88, because of our good friend Jason Reese, but I think he's legit. I do have to ask you Makuba LBJ product transfer from Clemson in the defensive backfield. Did you get a chance to even isolate on him at all? What did you think?
Speaker 2:The DBs as a whole looked well, looked pretty good. There was a couple of picks in the backfield with the DBs too. I think that Coach Yitting is coaching these guys up. Well, they were flying around all of them. So, yeah, I didn't see any any um holes or down uh people in that secondary. It looked really good with the ones, with the ones. So as long as those guys stay healthy, we're going to have a pretty good secondary out there that's encouraging because you know colorado state.
Speaker 1:They come to town season opener August 31st at DKR. It's going to be hot. It's going to be hot and their head coach, jay Norvell, who is a man Cave VIP alumni he also coached here at Texas and coached at Oklahoma for a while. He's I believe they're in their third year at Colorado State and he's building it from the ground up Really a cerebral guy. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Norvell. Consider him a friend, he and his family, and, by the way, his brother is an actor, if I remember correctly. But he has asked a silly question and he gave a silly response about how how training camp's going in fort collins this is training camp, so we're training our habits for the season.
Speaker 7:so we're doing a lot of different new things. Uh, we're training them, uh how to use their day effectively, uh, to have, uh, peak performance, and so there's a lot, of, a lot of new ways that we're looking at how we go about our business on a daily basis. So really doing that, and we want to use this two weeks, two and a half weeks, to get them in rhythm for what we need to do this season. So that's the number one thing stevie.
Speaker 1:He said also that, uh, you know, two years ago they had so much youth that most of the players look like doogie hauser, and now they don't that's funny.
Speaker 2:That's funny, so that's um, that's pretty neat. Uh, you know, something I noticed in that clip if you don't mind me kind of going off topic a little bit was this shirt yeah, love it. This is a blue collar work shirt and that's the mentality that he wants to get across to his kids. This is his time to go to work. So he put on a blue collar mechanics work shirt with the name patch on the side, like I think that's pretty neat, man, we're going to work when we get out on this field. That's a mindset.
Speaker 1:That's brilliant. That's typical Jay Norvell.
Speaker 2:You can simulate work, you can make them work. But what you cannot simulate is late August, early September in DKR Stadium at 2.30. You cannot simulate that. Those guys in Colorado, they deal with altitude but it's like cool, they barely sweat in practice. You come down to the University of Texas at 2.30, and in late August, early September, it's going to feel it's going to be hot. I don't want to say what I want to say. It's going to be hotter than hell, baby, no question. It's like the devil's sitting in the end zone back there, like it gets hot down there. I asked my wife. I said are y'all ready for the first game? She said what time is it? She said I said it's 2.30. She was like I'm not going. She said what time is it? She said I said it's 2.30. She was like I'm not going.
Speaker 1:I can hear Summer say that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, she said I'm not going. And I looked at my daughters I was like no, no, daddy, I'm not going I was like well I guess I'll be there by myself.
Speaker 1:I said hell no.
Speaker 2:Exactly.
Speaker 1:You know Sark is everybody. You know people buy too much into recruiting right now because these commitments they change when the wind changes. But this is they got a big-time receiver who committed to Texas and made a big deal out of it on 24-7. And this he's from Soxie High School, which is up there in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is how he committed to Texas with his parents and I believe it is one of the Sarks assistants on the other end of that call, the FaceTime call and they were trying to call him and they couldn't get a hold of him. But after about 30 seconds they finally got the FaceTime call to go through, all right wait, let me know.
Speaker 6:Oh, there you go.
Speaker 2:Hey, coach, hey, I want you to go ahead and tell the people where we're going. Coach.
Speaker 6:My man. Khalid Lockett from Sac State High School is committing to the University of Texas football.
Speaker 1:There it is. I think it's Coach Jackson from UT's staff, maybe I'm not sure, I'm just guessing. Khalid Lockett, rangy receiver. He does some things. He's not built the same, but he does. Des Bryant, like things cool, that's good stuff. I'm looking forward to it, man. That's why I don't spend too much time on recruiting. But if you were to summarize what you think because they are, they've had some wins so far, because we have that early signing period now in December and there's been some guys who decommitted and some that I guess a position of need on the defensive side Are you the least bit worried right now at all?
Speaker 2:No, not at all, absolutely not. Recruiting is right up Sark's alley right now. You know we are going into the SEC. Long as we get over there and compete in the SEC, recruits will start beating down our door, you know. So there are some guys that we want to get and things like that. Yes, but I'm also not worried because the way they're developing when they're here, yeah Well, if we get a bunch of three and four-star guys, you know they're going to play like five stars once they get here in this program. Agreed, yeah, coach Becton got them right. He's getting these guys right in the offseason. Now, what you want to recruit are people that are willing to work, you know, willing to, not afraid of the work that you're going to put in with with coach Beckton. So those are the guys you really, really want, yeah.
Speaker 1:One notable from yesterday's scrimmage. I had a couple of people tell me a local kid from Austin Texas that I know all too well. Colin page was a great high school running back Shifty. He had those fluid hips like DeMarco Murray and Bijan had. He got some run and apparently he caught the attention of the coaches and I would venture to say he may get a few reps in some games but he's been on special teams. Shout out to Colin Page and Austin hey, aggie, I'm going to disappoint you what I have to say after we move to the next topic. But first-year head coach Mike Yelko, he says he feels right now that right now they're simply feeling good about things.
Speaker 9:We're in a really good place as a program and that's always fun. You know, when the kids are excited, when they have good energy, when you can see them kind of coming together, like when you're in that place, it's a really cool place to be and you don't get to live there forever, right? And we're there right now and so certainly want to enjoy it while we're able to be there.
Speaker 2:So you never know what place is he talking about. Last place in the SEC, wow.
Speaker 1:You know, I think there's been a lot of talent mismanagement in College Station. Okay, during Jimbo it was just not managed properly.
Speaker 2:It was a lot of things not managed properly in that Jimbo era man. His salary, yeah, number one. And guaranteed and guaranteed. Yes, a lot of things mismanaged, man. I am so glad that we're back on the schedule so I can talk trash from the end. I don't have much good things to say about Aggies right now. I don't know what good place he's thinking that they're in, I don't know. Hopefully they are good, because I like when Texas teams are good. You know, once we play each other around Thanksgiving it's always fun. But I don't know, man, I'm not buying it.
Speaker 1:Well, I think when A&M is good and Oklahoma are good, I think it's good for Texas too, Because if all three are great, it's good. Which leads me to this who is your dark horse SEC title contender that could play and I'm not saying win it, compete for it, actually play in the game that maybe not many are mentioning?
Speaker 2:The dark horse, if I was in Las Vegas and needed to put some money on a dark horse and shout out to Fozzie Whitaker, love him. Yeah, we were at church just a couple of hours ago arguing with Pastor Eric, who played quarterback at OU. We were talking about whose schedule is the hardest.
Speaker 1:Man Cave VIP alum.
Speaker 2:No question. And so we're talking about whose schedule is the hardest. And then Fozzie Whitaker, who is going to be color commentating for ESPN this year, so proud, and he was like Stevie, this is my job, let me break it down for you. He pulled out his phone and looked and OU has a pretty tough schedule. Yes, the first time I've admitted this, because of Fozzie, because people are sleeping on Missouri, the point Mizzou they have and we were talking about this they do have one of, if not the best, receiving core in the country right now. It's crazy, isn't it, yeah? And I said well, you got to have a quarterback to get it out there. And he reminded me of their quarterback and I was like oh yeah, you're right. Now their defense is a little iffy, but if they can get that right in this offseason, they may be making some noise in the SEC.
Speaker 1:So here's Mizzou's schedule Home against Vanderbilt this is for the SEC. Yeah, home against Vandy at A&M Auburn, at Mizzou, missouri, at Bama OU at Missouri, at South Carolina, mississippi State, arkansas at Mizzou. So the schedule is favorable to an extent for Mizzou. But they do have great talent, fozzie's not wrong.
Speaker 2:Yeah they have really good talent. They can get through that gauntlet with Auburn, and so they have OU, auburn and Alabama and Mississippi State and Mississippi State. Mississippi State I thought was a dark horse too, yeah, and Mississippi State and Mississippi State. Mississippi State I thought was a dark horse too, yeah, but if you're looking at the most, I think it's going to be Mizzou.
Speaker 1:Okay, that's fair.
Speaker 2:My dark horse, the Aggies. Oh really, you shut your dirty mouth.
Speaker 1:I don't want to say it, I don't want to say it. They've got a good quarterback. Yeah, I mean they've got some unknowns, like everybody else, but I just feel like they needed an entire regime change, someone who's organized and modern, a modern mindset. I think don't be shocked if in November the Aggies are hanging around the top four teams in the SEC. Don't be surprised if that game in Austin or in College Station at the end of the regular season is for a spot to play in the SEC.
Speaker 2:Oh, Okay, all right, we'll see. Oh, oh, okay, alright, we'll see.
Speaker 1:It is so I just want to. This is prime time up in Colorado. Um, he has some beef with the network, the national network, cbs, and this is what happened Up in Boulder at a recent Press conference he has some beef with the network, the national network, cbs, and this is what happened up in Boulder at a recent press conference.
Speaker 8:Eric.
Speaker 11:Christensen with CBS Sports Colorado.
Speaker 7:I'm not doing nothing with CBS. Next question Joe Rego my eyes.
Speaker 11:It's above that. I ain't got nothing to do with you. I got love for you. I appreciate, respect you. I ain't got nothing to do with you. They know what they did. I appreciate and respect you. Ain't got nothing to do with you, they know what they did. I'm here in Denver, not national. You are who you are. Cbs is CBS. All right.
Speaker 7:Ain't got nothing to do with you.
Speaker 11:I respect you. That's why I told you that I'm looking you in the eye as a man. I respect you.
Speaker 1:I got love. What's your take on primetime and that response to the local CBS affiliate in Denver? Him to lash out at him like that.
Speaker 2:I don't like lashing out at a local guy because he has nothing to do with what the national news did. But I did a little research on what Deion was talking about To attack his kid. As fathers, as a father like I am, if somebody came out and did some negative, disparaging words and things like that towards my kid then I don't know how I would respond. So I do like Deion looking at the guy has nothing to do with you, sir, I'm sorry. You know you are with them and I don't want to have anything to do with that station, you know. So it's tough because locally he has nothing to do with it and he has a job to do. But nationally, affiliated with that brand, I get it, I you go out to my family, then I don't have anything else to do with you.
Speaker 1:I get it. It's my understanding. You're not wrong. I saw that article too, but it's my understanding. That was Deion's response To CBScom, cbssportscom or whatever it is their digital platform Rating him the second worst coach in the Big 12.
Speaker 2:Second worst coach in the Big 12.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 1:It's either what you said or that, but why do you let it affect you? It's just somebody writing.
Speaker 2:Well, that affects recruiting Right, and recruiting is the future of your program, you know. So I do get that, but second best in the Big 12?.
Speaker 1:Second worst. Like they ranked the best coaches in the Big 12, and he was second to last.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that feels personal, that feels real personal. So I get it. They have a right to say what they want to say. I guess Deion has the right to answer any questions that he wants to answer, right?
Speaker 1:I'll go a step further, stevie, what's that? I'll go a step further. Okay, I don't think Deion really cares. I think he saw it, just like Mike Gundy did on that article. That was written and it was his way. He knows he's polarizing, he knows his brand, he knows recruits are watching and he knows also that if he stirs something up like that or brings it to their attention in the manner he did, people are going to write about it and they're going to run, and it's not just in Denver, I mean, we're talking about it.
Speaker 3:This is Denver, yeah.
Speaker 1:He knows what he's doing.
Speaker 2:He knows his reach, but he's so polarizing my wife and I are thinking about going to Baylor just to see him play. You know why not? Yeah, so whenever they come to Texas, we're thinking about just going somewhere to see him coach man. So I, you know, I was always a fan as a kid of Deion Sanders when he went to the Dallas Cowboys and had Pizza Hut commercials. Do you want 15? Do you want 20 million? He says both. That was awesome man. So I like him. I like him a lot. I love the way the kids love him. He's so polarizing that not everybody is going to love him. He's not going to be your cup of tea, but when your team loves on you the way they do that, he's doing something right. And there are some teammates that have left and didn't like the way he did things, but for the most part the team loves him.
Speaker 1:Well, I think the feeling can be said, but on a different level, about a coach in San Marvellous, Texas.
Speaker 8:Just being grateful and feeling blessed. We talked about it the other day. You know it's hot but this isn't hard. There's a lot of people out there in the world that are dealing with a lot harder stuff than we're getting to play a game. People you know pay to come watch us play. We got people interviewing us Like we're very blessed and I think, just having that mindset of an attitude of gratitude, I'll give some words back to you attitude of gratitude.
Speaker 8:How about that and you know, I think we have that mindset every day we can do some really good things.
Speaker 1:GJ Kinney, former Texas high school football quarterback, great, started at Texas, went to Tulsa, played in the NFL, worked his way up. He's the head coach of Texas State and led them to their first bowl victory bowl game victory. And I want to be honest with you, man, I think that name is resonating. They've got great leadership at school. They have great recruits best they've ever had. They have one of the best running backs, stevie, in the country. Have you had any conversations Because I think this is a program with GJ Kinney and that administration, I think the Bobcats are going to be relevant, moving forward.
Speaker 2:Yep, I always thought that Texas State being right down south of Austin, not too far from Austin, they should be bigger than what they are and I think he's taking them there. You know they're renovating that stadium or expanding that stadium. The city is a great college town and it's a great atmosphere for college football. I think that what he's doing there is just building and building that program. He might get too big for the program and go on to bigger and better things, but I think that that program is a stepping stone for them and he's doing a stepping stone for them and he's doing a great job down there. I like it. I love for them to keep building and just keep winning some games. Man, I like it down there. I love going to that campus.
Speaker 1:It's pretty cool. It's a great place to be alongside the river during the springtime, on the lawn let's just say there's good sightseeing, no question. Yeah, hey, coming up a week from this Wednesday, we've got something special, stevie, something we've only done twice and we're going to do a live show, a live hour and a half long podcast from the Boulevard Bar and Grill off Far West Boulevard in Austin, texas. It's going to be an hour and a half and we're going to call it Kicking Things Off. We're going to talk to Longhorns College Football. We're going to try to get GJ Kinney a Texas State presence, other college football voices, possibly some Longhorns high school football here in Central Texas, and then Cowboys and Texans working on one guest for that, and we want everybody to attend.
Speaker 1:You go to Boulevard of the Bully Amazing Austin Texas original and really great bar food Seriously, I'm not exaggerating that and the drink's phenomenal and just good people there in Northwest Hills and the ownership group there just great people as well. So join us Wednesday, august 21st, 6.30 to 8 pm, on whatever platform you watch us. We'll be there and Stevie's Big Mug will be there too. We're looking forward to it. He always makes everyone's day a little better. I got something for you to laugh about. Remember the year when it was like 2015, 2016,. Charlie Strong was the head coach. It may have been 2016. And he utilized the Dorns not only for the kids but for the coach?
Speaker 10:Why you guys don't think I stay in the dorm. Y'all don't think that. Do you have a roommate? There's no suite over there. There's no suite. Our room is just the same as the players' room. It's two beds and the bathroom is down the hall. So it's good. I mean our coaches, I mean we need that. It speaks a lot for the coaches and the players with their relationships. Also, how do you sell that to Mrs Strong? How do I sell it? They just know, not only for my wife but for all the coaches. They know that start of camp, it's time to go to work. So, the things that we're going to do, what we need to do to make this football team better Stevie, would that work?
Speaker 2:Yes, One thing that I really loved about Coach Strong is one of my friends was on his staff, one of the guys that I played with, and when he first got hired at the University of Texas I'll keep this short they gave him a rundown of what the football players go through during the day, and so one of the things was you leave class, you will go and you watch film, and then, after film, you get on the bus to go to the practice field. Coach Strong said what do you mean bus? And he said, yeah, we go to the practice field. He said what do you mean? You mean across the street, over there, and they say, yes, he's like no, no, no, no, no, no, we're not doing that.
Speaker 2:And I thought it was funny, you know, when I heard the story and then I went over to you know I go to practices, you all know that I went over to a practice I park in the garage where the buses will pick up at, and but they all walked over to the practice field, but the coaches walked with them. You know what I mean. And so the coaches were talking shop, talking everyday life to life, life, lifeto-day life, things with the kids. They were immersed with the kids. That was just a few minutes of time that you got to be with your coach to talk about anything on that walk over there and that's walking there and walking back, and him being in the dorms with the players. That didn't surprise me. It doesn't surprise me because that's the way he was. He wanted the team to be immersed with the coaches and because when you're a coach and you're up in the press box or you're on the sideline, you want your players to be an extension of you on the field.
Speaker 2:Yeah, your mindset on the field. You know these coaches can't do what these kids can do nowadays, but you know you want his mindset to be an extension of you on the field. So I'm all for that. That's great. I don't think my wife would have liked it. I'm checking out. I got to go for three weeks and sleep in this dorm with all my players and you're not going to see me for another three weeks. You can come out and give me some sugar at practice, but then you got to go back home. So I don't think she would have liked that. But that is part of gelling as a full team in today's football man. I like it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I had nothing against Charlie. I enjoyed it and I remember doing that story that you mentioned because I asked him. I said well, how do they decide to get on the bus or walk? And he said they don't have a choice. They got to walk. That's good for you, it's good for you.
Speaker 1:Hey, the Olympics are wrapping up and that's bittersweet, because I have enjoyed it and I like so many people, and every night I put the TV in my bedroom and I turn on the Olympics and go to sleep to the Olympics. I put the TV in my bedroom and I turn on the Olympics and go to sleep to the Olympics. But as we wrap up, I mean the United States Team USA is blowing everyone out with the total medals, but last check, they're tied with China, with the same amount of gold medals being 40. But how about the men's basketball man and the women? They won gold too. These men, I mean, the world has caught up with us in basketball, but this is a gritty group. I thought that we had.
Speaker 2:Man, I can do a whole podcast on basketball right now. Yep, because the reason the world has caught up with the US is basketball. The NBA, nike, even Adidas, all these other shoe companies have done a really, really good job of making basketball a global game. It's global now. Back when Michael Jordan played and doing all the great things that he was doing, he was doing it against the best in the United States the best Joe Dumars from Indiana, the best from Houston, dallas, chicago, new York, la they were the best in the country. These guys now, they were the best in the country. These guys now are playing the best in the world.
Speaker 2:Serbia and Nikolic Nocovic I mean Jokovic, those guys are really really good. You know what I'm saying. Playing against France and Victor that kid is phenomenal. This is a global league now guys, rudy Gobert playing for the French, you got Schroeder playing for Germany, wimby, yeah, victor, wimby, yeah, wimby playing for the French and like it's a global league, it's going to be competitive now. The NBA has done a phenomenal job of making it in the global league and that's why it's more competition. Now we've got to stay on top, and I was talking to some people yesterday, like I said, I can do a whole podcast on just this. Who's the future of Team NBA? Because I also like these older guys passing the torch, taking them to these games this year and passing the torch Like you got Booker, you have Edwards and you have Jason Tatum. There's going to be more guys coming in LA the next Olympics because the rest of the world are going to continue to get better.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's great to see. And they've grown. The rest of the world are going to continue to get better. Yeah, so it's, it's, it's, and it's great to see, and they've grown the game of basketball in a great way of marketing and it's done a great job. Well, before we hit the break, we got to hit this Caption, this three legends of college football, especially in the great state of texas. You've got the late spike dykes, uh, former sfa lumberjack, former coach at ut, with, I believe, daryl k, royal, rc slocum, who succeeded Jackie Sherrod A&M and RC great man, still with us, thank God, and won a lot of games. And then there he is, dkr Stevie. What would you caption this photo?
Speaker 2:You got to imagine a ticket bill right in front of them and they're looking at it and looking like how many beers did we drink? I love it, man. Yeah, how many beers did we drink? We did what, oh man.
Speaker 1:Jeez yeah, texas football legends they are legends, man.
Speaker 2:They built programs around this. This great state Football here is huge and these guys are here at the University of Texas and at A&M. I was always, I always like RC Sloper man, yeah. And so these are legends here that built this program to where built Texas football to where it is today, even the high school programs.
Speaker 1:Yeah, Absolutely. My thing is. I think my caption would be are you buying dinner? Yeah, Got it. Hey, real quick. We're going to take a quick break when we come back. T-sweat doesn't like it. His alma mater Is not listed as UT. We'll see you on the other side Of this break.
Speaker 6:Today is going to be an exciting day at the Hargrove office as we bring in a local celebrity. Welcome the kicking phenom, Bert Auburn, Conference champion of the Texas Longhorn football team, All-conference kicker. He's going to be our new spokesman. Bert's the best kicker in the conference. He plays for the Texas Longhorns, as you can see, you know Bert's f***ing awesome. Hey, Stevie. Dude, you're really replacing me with a kicker. No, not at all man. Hey guys, who wants a picture with Stevie? Anyone? Stevie almost won a Big 12 championship. Hargrove Roofing.
Speaker 1:Know who's on your roof. All right, stevie Cowboys. As we're recording this episode, they're about to play in a preseason game. I think it's a preseason opener. We decided to record this episode earlier in the day on Sunday but there was, you know, a simple old Jerry Jones trying to figure out a way to keep the Cowboys in the news cycle. You know this is not news that there are unsigned veterans, but CD Lamb, he quote tweeted something about Jerry Jones. Jerry said there's no urgency in getting CD signed and CD quote tweeted it with LOL. And maybe I'm wrong, but I think that tweet that CD sent out is no longer.
Speaker 1:Oh, he took it down he tells me the Cowboys hey, man, you might want to take that down.
Speaker 2:Either the Cowboys or his agent. You know you don't want to poke the bear, but saying that there's no urgency to get your number one receiver back in there, there's got to be some kind of urgency to get it done. So you know that's Jerry Jones selling some Wolf tickets right there. You've got to get that guy in the camp and you've got to keep him happy, you know, but I don't know. Cd has got to be also mature than that, you know, and let the people that he hired do their job too.
Speaker 1:Yep, yeah, yeah, that's a thing, and you know, I think they're going to try to figure out the way to bring Dak back. But I also think CD's the only one with Cachet Dak, obviously the runner-up to the MVP last year. But I don't know what's going to happen. I don't want to keep going in circles. I'm with you. I think you said it with George Teague in that episode. The Cowboys may mess around and surprise people this year, but hey, dan, we don't talk about him much. But the Houston Texans what do you know? All I can say is that former Longhorn Andrew Beck he's a big part of the Texans and a lot of people don't realize it One of Charlie Strong's recruits doing big things for the Texans.
Speaker 2:Yeah, man Beck definitely did really good things at the university of texas and I love playing watching him play before the cowboys man and staying in his home state or staying in the state, uh, playing football. But I like, um, his work ethic on the field. He doesn't just go down there and catch balls like he's blocking downfield, um, and he's a hard hat guy. He's going to work every single play, workhorse, no question.
Speaker 1:You know they've got let's see, this is the 11th. I know they've got, I think, a joint scrimmage coming up with the Rams, I believe, for the Texans. But you know, the Texans, with CJ Stroud and they've got Case Keenum on the roster as well, the Texans are going to contend for the AFC. They've come a long ways Now. One of Houston's AFC rivals actually the Tennessee Titans, the former Oilers. You know it's still a debate. You know T Sweat's representing his alma mater. Well, he's saying we're the real UT. But when you're in Nashville and in the same state as the Falls, it's hard. But I think the SEC made the decision that there's only one UT. Watch this. Cooper Mays preseason all-conference UT Kelvin Banks.
Speaker 10:Jr Tex, so it looks like the.
Speaker 5:SEC has settled this, or so it seems. Y'all scared. Why are we scared?
Speaker 2:But the conference says UT and Tex we know whoever the lead of the SEC, they know who the real UT is.
Speaker 5:We know whoever the lead of SEC, they know who the real UT is the SEC, which is the conference you came to, says that UT is. Tennessee. Should I just start calling you Tex?
Speaker 2:No, I think they kind of messed up, they messed up. Yeah, it's okay. Tex, have a nice day oh.
Speaker 1:That's awesome.
Speaker 2:That dude needs to watch out. Man. Sweat's hand was bigger than that guy. I don't know. Man, let the board say. Whatever the board is going to say, you know we'll settle it on the field. And who's the real UT, we'll find out real quick.
Speaker 1:All I know is the folks Tennessee Titans fans they're going to love T-Sweat.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:That is a large human being. No question hey, all-american Mom. This is a video I saw A mom coaching her son to take better, improve his fundamentals, blocking and man. I would love to hire this mom on a coaching staff. She is an all-American mom in my opinion.
Speaker 9:They ain't going to be able to do that with you right here. Okay, I'm going to tell you where you messed up at. Look right here. The first thing you did you was down. The first thing you did was stood straight up. No, you're going to tell you where you messed up at. Look right here. The first thing you did you was down. The first thing you did was stood straight up. No, you're going to remember you down. I said first step you the defensive end. Come push, I ain't moving. What's going to be your first step? Hey, see how you waddling already.
Speaker 1:She's awesome.
Speaker 2:Yeah, man, hey, she needs to go down to the coaching clinic in San Antonio. Man, she teach these guys some stuff in these high school programs. Man, man, that's good, god bless.
Speaker 1:She's good, yeah, wow.
Speaker 2:But she was right keeping a base. Stay low and keep your base Base. Mm-hmm, Get that leverage, Uh-huh. The next step, though, is the kick slide. The kick steps now and pass pro She'll get there.
Speaker 1:Did you ever play O-line too? I did a little bit, yeah. Oh my God, I know what else you do. You've got some knowledge to pass along. Stevie Lee, we're both foodie. Real quick, give us a pro tip for lovers of the ATX.
Speaker 2:Man, you really can't go wrong with restaurants in the Austin Texas area. I wanted to give people a pro tip. This week we're in the dog days of summer right now. Guys, there you go Hydrate. That's where I was getting at. Hydrate man, it's hot out there right now. Still go out and enjoy Austin, but hydrate your face right now. What did you just read? I'll share with you later. Your face threw me off.
Speaker 1:Just hydrate. Get out there. Still enjoy the city. There's plenty of places to go eat, but really enjoy town. Enjoy being out on the town. For Stevie, I've documented every one of his pro tips, yeah, and I'm just going to say I'm on cloud nine right now. Well, sure, you are. Hey, it's tick-tocking in a man cave and you got to love couples who insert their digits in certain places insert their digits in certain places.
Speaker 9:I got this is already tight and you just penetrated me. Oh, my God, oh my God. Can't do nothing without getting a freaking prostate exam.
Speaker 11:Oh God almighty, all right, come here, courtney God bless America God almighty, I swear you are obsessed with assholes.
Speaker 6:That's why I married you.
Speaker 9:That's why I married you, oh my goodness.
Speaker 6:Hey man, tell me something good.
Speaker 1:Oh lord, have mercy. Stevie and I are laughing Big smiles. Man, my brother, tell me something good, and the fine folks watching and listening. Man, it can be evangelical, something inspiring. Let's go, baby.
Speaker 2:What's really really good is, you know, right now, as we're recording this, the closing ceremonies is going on. That held us over for sports. Now we're into football. This closing ceremonies of the Olympics are going off, but this week we got a lot of football happening. Guys, something good right now is football is in the atmosphere. I'm having a great time talking about it. I'm excited about it. I'm excited about the University of Texas going into the SEC. This is one of the most important seasons in Texas football history. I am here for it. I'm soaking it up. I'm going to be at every single game, no matter how hot it is out there. Just enjoy that, man. That's something good, man. We are getting into this, this beautiful town, a lot of new teams coming into town. It's going to be fun, so enjoy that, guys stevie I.
Speaker 1:I don't even know how to follow that up. Much love to that much appreciation. Um, I'll tell you something good. I went to uh, a men's group at a local church nearby yesterday for breakfast it's too early in the morning, they had it at 830 in the morning on a Saturday and one of my former colleagues, the boss, the former boss of KVU, longtime sports director, you know him, mike Barnes, longtime sports director, you know him, mike Barnes. You know he, and I and the Stacey Sladen, we all left KU at the same time and ended our careers, changed careers, so to speak. Well, I got a message that resonated. It was a group of about 30 people for this and it really hit me.
Speaker 1:He said the four-letter word help. Women are great about asking for help.
Speaker 3:Women are communicators usually.
Speaker 1:He said we as men don't reach out and ask for help because we want to do it ourselves. Yeah, I'm guilty of it 80% of the time. So ask for help, whether it be your health, anything in life. I thought the message was profound and I was just. I sat there and I was thinking about it. You know what? I don't ask for help enough.
Speaker 8:Yeah.
Speaker 2:No, you're exactly right. No, you're exactly right. No, you're exactly right. I appreciate that. That reminds me to keep asking, or to ask for help when I need it for sure.
Speaker 1:That's great. Maybe we'll ask for money too. Venmo that.
Speaker 2:Hey, that's the thing.
Speaker 1:Hey, much love, brother. This has been fun as usual. We're really excited. I know people say maybe we're biased to football but we'll change some things. But this is exciting time, exciting time and we're going to. It's almost here, brother. It's almost here. So good luck to you. If you have children who are young men, young girls playing football, man, keep them hydrated, keep them safe. Good luck to them. This is arguably the best time of year and I feel like the football family is special. So for hargrove roofing in the great city of shreveport, louisiana, I'm running for Chamber of Commerce president there and shout out to Nacogdoches, texas, my alma mater's hometown, and Stevie Lee's family and the Hargrove family and the OG man Cave boys that being Harbaugh Harge, big Mike and Coach Mo. What do we tell them, stevie Lee?
Speaker 2:We out. You see the drip and I'm fitted up. I'm in my car. In the Gid I said get out.
