Ep 418: The Pass Rush with Stevie Lee, Texas' Controversial Clash with Georgia and Elle Duncan's Inspiring Story
What happens when sports excitement crosses the line? Join us as we discuss a spirited but controversial game between Texas and Georgia, starting with an unfortunate incident involving Texas students that stirred the nation. As the dust settles, our conversation leads us to a touching story about ESPN's Elle Duncan and her connection to the 'girl dad' movement, which adds a heartwarming note amidst the chaos. Through laughter and reflection, we dissect the controversial matchup and how it served as Texas' first significant challenge against a formidable SEC opponent.
Braving the storm of Texas' first loss of the season, we unravel the emotional and strategic elements that defined their showdown with Georgia. Coach Steve Sarkeesian offers insights into the game, highlighting the strategic brilliance of Georgia's early turnovers and relentless defensive tactics. With quarterback Quinn Ewers in the spotlight, we ponder whether his oblique injury hindered his performance and explore the complexities of modern college football—where NIL deals and the transfer portal add layers of unpredictability to the game.
Beyond the gridiron, we journey through the shifting landscapes of college and professional football, spotlighting rising stars like Diego Pava and the power dynamics of teams like Alabama and Texas A&M. Jerry Jones' influence on the Dallas Cowboys and the financial constraints faced by teams like the Oklahoma Sooners reveal the intricate dance of sports management. We celebrate the camaraderie at the RBI Austin golf tournament, share shoutouts to our beloved communities, and wrap up with a humorous nod to a fan's unconventional use of a Waffle House menu as a playbook.

you, you students are now raining. Yeah, bottles down here. This is unfortunate. This is going to delay the game. That's the student section down there in the corner. They're not going to win the Taco Bell contest at this rate. But I'd say, look, these guys have a tough job, especially on these plays on the edge.
Speaker 2:Stevie Lee, it was a game that so many people anticipated Both of us did, I think anyone, even non-Texas, non-georgia fans, could not wait for this game. And this was the true, first true test for Texas. And I think everybody got to see what the SEC is all about. And you saw Steve Sarkeesian wait, telling the student section stop throwing the damn water bottles on the field in protest of it. Quick, real quick, your thoughts on the water bottle deal, which costs UT a quarter of a million dollars, and sum up your thoughts as we move on to this episode, because we're going to dive deep into everything.
Speaker 3:Yeah, unfortunately students got a little rowdy, too rowdy. It's a night game in Austin, Texas, with a whole bunch of stuff going on. So you know, unfortunate, that was embarrassing a little bit, but they should have just got the call right in the first place.
Speaker 2:That's right. That call. Everybody's whining about it. Look, the officials admitted it. The guy who made the call said that he made a mistake. Went right before the play, those water bottles, the narrative that Texas got their way by throwing a tantrum. That was a bad look. Don't do it again. Don't ever throw anything on the field. Don't be like some other places, like a university in Lubbock which threw batteries one time, and a nine-volt battery hit me in the head one time when.
Speaker 4:I was on the field.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that hit other people. And frozen tortillas, I get it, it's tradition. But yeah, we're going to dive deep into that. It's interesting, but the thing that's beautiful Sunday morning and today, stevie, the sun came up in the east, came up. Another day, great day to be alive. You ready, let's do it, man. Episode 418, baby, let's ride the. They need to stop doing that.
Speaker 6:They have done that to me so many times. Honestly, it's gotten worse every time.
Speaker 2:Oh my God, Elle Duncan. For those of you who may not know who she is, she is one of the great talents ESPN. If you remember when Kobe Bryant died, you know he had the big hashtag girl dad, girl dad that's exactly where I got it from so I got a quick story about her.
Speaker 3:She was at the final four in Dallas, for women's final four, two years ago, I believe, and my wife ran into her. She was so nice talking to people in the coffee shop at the hotel downstairs and some people didn't know who she was, so she was just, you know, being herself, and my wife was like, oh my God, my husband loves you. And so she was like, well, we, well, we should just send him a video. She gets on my wife's phone and sends a video, or my wife sends me a video. She goes well, too bad, you're not here. You know it was. It was really funny man and she's a she's a cool human. But that story that she gave us about Kobe Bryant brought me to tears. While she was crying, that hashtag girl dad started from Kobe, but she made it take off with her story with Kobe. She's a great human. She talked right there with my wife for a while.
Speaker 2:That's great James Time out of her day just to do it.
Speaker 3:We saw her.
Speaker 2:She's on the man Time out of her day just to do it. You know, yeah, we saw her. She's on the sideline. I think it's funny. Smokey the Cannon, you know they pop it off an hour before. Then they give you a 30-minute warning Get your butt in the stadium. It's so funny To this day. I got to meet a lot of Georgia fans. The lovely Trish was with me Wearing the boots. By the way, she wore the boots, stevie, fantastic. Look on her. Everybody. When that cannon goes off, it's still to this day, as you saw, elle Duncan, it goes off and she goes.
Speaker 7:It's funny watching everybody when Smokey goes off and she goes eh.
Speaker 2:It's funny watching everybody when Smokey goes off. People still get startled. It's hilarious watching when you go to DKR for a game.
Speaker 2:I am Sean Clinch, that's Stevie Lee. We've got a lot to unbundle here and if you get a chance, follow us on all of our social media platforms there they are and share likes. Man, tag your mom, tag your cousins, your good friends, all your kin folks. Tag stevie, if you like, tag me, yeah, and share it, love it. And uh, thank you for all of our sponsors, but uh, most importantly, the primary sponsor of the pass rush, stevie lee. Because out of shreveport and they are in East Texas, all over Texas, excuse me, and Stevie Lee is one of the he and Bert Auburn, the kicker for Texas, are the faces and marketing gurus of Hargrove Roofing, and I think Stevie says it the best.
Speaker 2:Hargrove Roofing know who's on your roof 100% you do and they do great work. They did great work on my late mom's house. Beautiful roof and congrats to the new owners of that beautiful home on Ashdale. They have a nice roof that's going to last them for probably a decade plus because Hargrove Roofing did it All. Right, my friend, let's get to it. Texas handed their first loss by then number five, georgia 30-15. First loss by then number five, georgia 30-15. This is head coach Steve Sarkeesian hoping for a rematch.
Speaker 6:Hopefully we get another crack at them. That's a good football team. Credit to Kirby and their staff and their players being ready to go in the first half. They've been the standard in college football now for about five, six, seven years and I thought we played them really well in the second half. But we just get behind the eight ball with the way we played in the first half. It's a lot to overcome against good football teams.
Speaker 2:So wait, what do you say? And we're going to go through it categorically offense defense. Did you expect that? Or do you think a lot of people thought Texas was already there where they could control this game? Did anything surprise you, stevie?
Speaker 3:Yeah, the first half surprised me for sure. I thought that we were going to come out and play like we played in the second half right, but the first half really surprised me. The defense played very, very well. But when you get behind that much with the defense man I mean they got turnovers right in the red zone twice, I believe and so as a defense you just can't overcome that that much Now. So, yeah, it was that wasn't't expected, but I love the way we fought in the yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2:And kirby smart who's really. It's funny two former assistants of nick saban at alabama, georgia, already had lost alabama this year and we it's just a wild and it's fun college football because of NIO, because of the portal, anyone can beat anybody any given day. So Kirby Smart trying to find an edge and he kept reminding his team nobody's giving you a chance, and that was what he talked about after beating.
Speaker 4:Texas. Everybody doubted us and I really have felt like we've gotten better over the last three weeks. We played a good football team tonight. They'll win some games and I told our kids coming into the game it was going to be a challenge Win or lose. We weren't out of it and that's the case now. We're not in it. So it's one of those things we've got to keep getting better.
Speaker 3:It's like people gave them a chance for sure, right, um the betters they're gonna do what they do, but, um, they definitely had a chance to come in here and do what they did. Um, so they, they tried to play underdog, and I guess it worked for them and their kids, because they came out and played very, very hard in the beginning. So, uh, now this is a good stat, though. Go for it.
Speaker 2:Here's the deal, the grand scheme of this. Offensively, both defenses held each other well below their average. I mean you held. Now, georgia had great field position. Let's not ignore that. They turned over Beck three times, yeah, but Texas had four turnovers. The one that's a killer. And we'll get to Quinn Ewers in a minute, the big killer man. I never thought I would see this. Seven sacks and ten tackles for losses, seven quarterback sacks by the Georgia defense. Now, keep in mind a lot of people already know this, but Georgia has sustained some injuries earlier this year on the defensive side.
Speaker 2:Three of those guys were back this game. They came back this game, correct. And 11 and 13, if I remember, were a problem.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, so you're right, man. So you know, if they don't get us on that, what was that? A safety blitz that came off the edge, yeah, and we fumbled right there. Quinn fumbled right there when he got sacked, so that was a strip sack. Yep, they got the ball right there. You know, if we give them the longer field, who knows happens right. So, in all honesty, we lost by two touchdowns, but there's two or three touchdowns on the field that can be given or taken away, and it's a much different game. You know, is this the first half?
Speaker 2:This is the entire game.
Speaker 3:This is the entire game. So we go in, that's right. We go in at halftime with only what? 38 yards, or something like that. Yeah, in at halftime with only what? 38 yards, or something like that. My total offense that's terrible. That should never happen. But we came back out and played and they only out-yarded us, out-gained, out-gained us. What is that? 15 yards, something like that? Yeah, 16 yards. They only out-gained us by 16 yards, something like that. Yeah, 16 yards. They only outgained us by 16 yards, man. So we came back and fought. We just did not get the ball in the end zone. And then they needed a fourth and one to get in the end zone. So we came back and played them, played them very well. We just got too deep in the hole in the first half.
Speaker 2:That's exactly right. And then you I mean you really look at it and mainly what everyone's going to remember from this game, uh, I mean the offense had been sky all year and I had been thinking and saying we texas has not faced somebody like that up front. Michigan was pretty good up front defensively, but this is a different animal, a team not desperate, but with a higher sense of urgency in SEC play, and we had never seen Quinn struggle the way he had in this game. Now I don't know what's going on. He obviously had that oblique injury, but he has had some inconsistencies this year, you know, mixed with the greatness that he's shown.
Speaker 2:But my God, I don't know because he threw that. You know he has this thing where he does throw an interception early in the game and I don't know. I mean I'm not asking you to think like a quarterback, but from your trained eye, I mean, does he look uncomfortable? Does he look like he's pressing? Because there's times, stevie, I thought maybe if he would have stepped up in the pocket, and I'm just saying that from a guy who's never played quarterback yeah, so he was a little antsy.
Speaker 3:Uh, and I do believe coach sark whenever he says he wanted to calm, he put manning in just so he can calm Quinn down a little bit. I believe that because it worked right, he got back in the game and he did better, you know, because he was antsy, wasn't setting his feet, wasn't following through with his throws and you can tell that he was just jittery and just couldn't get right. And so, taking him out of series, let him sit on the sideline and say, hey, let's get this together, let me figure this out, let's do it. He did it. Ewers is still our guy, don't get me wrong. He's still our guy. What is off the table now is the Heisman talks. Individual's done yeah, individual accolades those are out the window. So we're going to just focus on the team goals now. You know, team goal is still in front of us win the SEC and win the national championship. That is all very, very much in front of us.
Speaker 2:Yeah, everything's still on the table here. Yeah. Conference championship, and if you don't win that, you still play off opportunity. It's just totally different now, but with and you go from four to 12. In regards to what you're talking about this is Sark on, I know, essentially moving forward with Quinn Ewers.
Speaker 6:Just didn't think he was at his best. You know a lot of things that I've seen him do. I wasn't quite seeing. I didn't think maybe kind of his eyes were where they needed to be, and so that's why I felt like he just needed to kind of reset and regroup at halftime and get a credit, coach Millwee, of kind of getting him reset. And, like I said, I thought he competed his tail off in the second half kirby threw some stuff in there at sarks offense and kirby won right matching up.
Speaker 3:Uh, mano y mano, we still match up with them. You know, man to man, we still match up with them. But, um, it was the scheme that got us behind in the beginning and, you know, hopefully these coaches actually, we know that these coaches saw and made the adjustments because we came out and played much better in the second half.
Speaker 2:We did, but I do disagree a little bit. I think Georgia's talent level is a little bit better simply because they've had seven years of top five classes Seven years, okay.
Speaker 3:That might be true, but whenever I'm looking down on the field and I see the elite receivers that we have, they were just not in the position to be successful. And I see the elite receivers that we have, right we, they were just not in the position to be successful, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3:No, no right, we still have an elite offensive line and they were just not put in a position to be successful in the first half. Yeah, Then we got some stuff going. Now we got to pick up our running back, play, our run plays 29 yards rushing in that game yeah that can't happen. It cannot happen. So to me these kids were ill-prepared for this game mentally. That's a good point yeah, yeah, or game plan wise.
Speaker 2:Well, to your point too. You heard Stevie mention exotic. Basically, what exotic means? A lot of people do know what that means. So they presented three-man fronts. Let's talk layman's turn. They presented three, four, sometimes five man fronts. And now what that is is what we'll say.
Speaker 2:Quinn Ewer sees is, when he goes to the line of scrimmage, well, during his read and the talking in his ear from Sark, they back off, squeeze in. Then you got a linebacker or a DB, schemed or kind of shaded, hidden behind a defensive lineman, kind of showing he's maybe coming on a blitz this way. Well, all of a sudden you've got this linebacker from the other side coming in from the other side in the gaps where the defensive tackles are, or a defensive end drops in coverage, and then you've got dbs all over the place blocking passing lanes and it's yeah, you're right. So it is a mental f job for not being prepared. That's just what it looks like. That's why I'm taking your side on that, because I'm not sure if they were. But it's leading that way. But does this mean they're going to continue? But I have to ask you this, because fans are talking about it Ewers or Manning, is that even up for debate?
Speaker 3:Not yet. No, no, it's not. But I will tell you this I've it's not. But I will tell you this, I've said it all season Ewers does not have a long ball. He doesn't go deep. And if he does go deep it's not very accurate, right? Yeah, georgia knows that. Georgia knew that they sat on the crossing routes. They sat on the underneath routes. The interception that Ewers threw the corner, jumped the underneath route and got an interception that you were through the corner, jumped the underneath route and got an interception Almost took it all the way in. They watched film. Kirby watched film. That's what I'm telling you. Kirby outcoached the offense.
Speaker 2:Defensively. We talked about it. They did a pretty good job. They had the big one. I mean, texas had the momentum there in the second half and then they just could not hold Georgia on that third and 10 when they were pinned back to their own end zone. And today, baron, who everybody really loves and this is a great DB, I wasn't shocked by this response, but this is today and I really think it's the heartbeat, it's kind of a culture response, moving forward, supporting Quinn because, let's face it, man, it's a hard game and they're realizing how hard this league is. I mean, it is much harder week to week to week.
Speaker 7:A team's not just defense. A team's not just defense. A team's not just offense. Sometimes we slack, offense picks us up and then that's just the brother you have to have. But you know, when we have everything rolling together special teams and things like that we're a dangerous team. So we're going to get right back on the right track and everything's going to be okay.
Speaker 2:But they got to get back on the field and what he's talking about move on. A trip to Nashville is up next A trip to Nashville.
Speaker 3:I told you that Vanderbilt is not going to be an easy out. Now, what Coach Brown used to tell us is don't let one team beat you twice, that's right. Now, what Coach Brown used to tell us is don't let one team beat you twice right, that's right. So we need to get this loss watch film, figure things out and get it behind us and move on to the next opponent, because it's not easy playing up there.
Speaker 2:No, well, it wasn't until now and they'd beaten Alabama. And listen, I'm going to tell you, steve, you know this, and people watching listening there's a good chance, a really good chance. Whoever wins, the SEC could have two losses. I'm just saying, I'm putting that out there. So to Stevie's point. And to Stevie, you know, unfortunately, during those great years that he had in Oklahoma was fantastic as well you guys, I think, were undefeated every year after losing to Oklahoma. Yeah, and this is kind of what Sark had mentioned when it was asked about do you think your team can get back the way they were up here after what happened last Saturday? It was one game.
Speaker 6:I mean, that's my concern. What are we going to do moving forward? You know, I think we can sit around here and throw a pity party for ourselves, but I don't know what good that's going to do for us. You know, I think for us right now, it's how do we recalibrate, how do we refocus as an organization, as a staff, as a team, to get back on the horse and start riding again? Quite frankly, I really think this is going to start to become the norm around here. We're going to have a ton of big games. We're going to have a really good football team, not just this year, but for years to come, and I think he's right.
Speaker 2:And to Stevie's point here, this Vanderbilt team, and I'll tell you, man, it is pretty impressive, their coach right here. This was after they played a non-conference game against a mid-major and they barely got by, but again, I'm pretty sure that they weren't going to show much on film, considering with Texas coming to town this Saturday, we reset on Sunday and we go at it all over again.
Speaker 8:It's one of the healthiest parts of this journey is just this necessary reset, week in, week out. So we take the learning forward, we focus on our next climb, that's Texas.
Speaker 2:So Texas the Longhorns going to Nashville, texas the Longhorns going to Nashville, nash, vegas, first time in 12 years, 11 years Vanderbilt is ranked. Now we all know rankings really don't matter, but they deserve this. Stevie Vanderbilts they're good and I know we've said it before. Stevie called it Vanderbilt could be a problem this year and they are.
Speaker 3:Yeah, told you, I told you, um, I knew it was hard for them, hard to beat them at home. They've, um, they beat alabama at home, right yeah they're at home, yeah, and so you know they're riding off their confidence and that high we just got to go and stomp them out real quick.
Speaker 2:This is Diego Pava the quarterback, so here's an interesting story You've heard about him. This kid was born and raised in New Mexico, played for Jerry Kill at New Mexico State. We saw what Kill did led New Mexico State to, I think, back-to-back bowl games. We all know how bad of a program New Mexico State has been historically.
Speaker 2:But to lead them to bowls and winning them. And this guy, jerry Kill, who is a cancer survivor, I believe was once in Minnesota. He's an assistant on the staff there at Vanderbilt and they got Paiva to transfer to Vanderbilt the kid. There he is, he can play and it's going to be a 3.30, mid-afternoon kickoff.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Vanderbilt is the next step in the first season. This is where we're going to learn a lot about Texas. Learn a lot about how good this team is. Can you get out of your own way and a PSA to Alabama? Stay out of the state of Tennessee.
Speaker 3:Yeah, Tennessee hadn't been good to them, man.
Speaker 2:Real quick Alabama's lost to Vanderbilt and Tennessee this past weekend.
Speaker 3:I wonder when's the last time that happened?
Speaker 2:Well, do you think these fans are a little rough on DeBoer?
Speaker 3:I didn't see what they were saying, what was going on.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, they're just. I don't think.
Speaker 3:I don't. I mean it's not rough, I mean he lost two games in Tennessee, man. So you know, too much is given, much is expected, right, so shoot. They're not threatening his life, are they?
Speaker 2:No, but he's getting paid well enough he can handle the criticism.
Speaker 9:He's a grown man getting paid millions of dollars.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so it's fine, dude, you got to take that man because you went to Tennessee and stunk it up twice.
Speaker 2:Sure as hell did. So, with all this movement, we got to reveal our post-week eight power rankings.
Speaker 2:You may or may not like this, but you could probably predict it. Let's ride, babe. And here they are for you to see with our large domes. I thought Georgia move them up three, push Texas down to six only because they got beat the way they did at home. If that would have been a close game, I think you could have had Texas at four. No, texas at five for me, okay, I think you could have had Texas at four.
Speaker 3:No, texas at five for me Okay, I think Texas should be at five. Push Miami down and probably flip-flop Penn State, ohio State, okay.
Speaker 2:Yeah. But, Georgia earned their way back.
Speaker 3:Georgia and Oregon also could be flipped. That's what corn talks to me, potentially.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I don't know why I don't feel comfortable with Oregon, but I, like their quarterback OU, is definitely missing them. But here's the key and the reason why I had to spell out Tennessee, because their orange logo blended in with that dude's hat in the background. I couldn't see it, but you're seeing like Iowa State is hanging on from the Big 12. They got a good. They're undefeated. You've got LSU, who I think is going to make some things happen. Clemson I'm not sold on yet, but they're winning. Good for Dabo and the basketball school, the Hoosiers. I pushed A&M down, one Indiana in there, because not only are they winning, they just pummeled Nebraska, pummeled them.
Speaker 3:And you still got five teams in the playoffs right now from the SEC potentially five out of twelve well, here's the thing, how that works.
Speaker 2:You've got to have your five conference, or is it four or five conference champions automatically? That's right, that's true, but look at when's's on the when's the last time we saw something like this? Alabama on the outside, looking at, that's tough it's a new day. I know people are gonna say well, wait a minute. A and m beat lost to notre dame. Why are they? Why is a and m into 12 A&M's looking pretty good?
Speaker 3:I'll let you say that.
Speaker 2:A&M is. I want to say it right now I am feeling very confident about my preseason conversation that we had, and that was A&M in Texas, in College Station, potentially could come down to a spot in the sec championship game the winner. That's what I'm feeling, okay. Okay, crazy things around college football. Usc is below 500 in the big 10, not so. They just played on the East Coast against Maryland, maryland with the victory formation. But a nice, interesting celebration after they closed it off against USC, instead of just taking a knee they did an alley-oop celebration like basketball.
Speaker 3:That was actually pretty nice. I like that. That was real nice, real nice.
Speaker 2:So the debacle in Tallahassee, florida it is. I don't understand it. Those transfers have not worked. There's no chemistry, none of them give a damn, it seems like. And you hate to see it because, uh, I'm a quiet. I love the fsu program. I, from afar, always have, since bobby baden. So, duke and malik murphy, they're on the rise. They, duke, beat florida state for the first time ever. And check out this fan dressed as a coach with a headset and a cord and a playbook. But it is a menu to a late-night favorite. It's funny. Just check it out. It's pretty damn fun. They're cover guys.
Speaker 4:They're rushers. And then Florida State comes and brings in their best wide receivers and look at this guy, I don't know what he's calling.
Speaker 2:What's he calling on third and 27?
Speaker 6:It looks like the all-star special at Waffle House I think it is a Waffle House menu.
Speaker 3:Man, these kids, dude, man, they get me every time. Man, these guys are so crazy.
Speaker 2:Every time, every time, man. These guys are so crazy. Every damn time, every time, man. So Waffle House, you know. At least they're showing up. They have every reason not to go to a game, but I respect it. I respect it and hell, some of the UT students may not be going to another game if they get identified as throwing water bottles at whoever did that. All right, my friend. This was at the Hargrove Roofing NIL event with the Bird Auburn at Hole in the Wall historic place near the campus of UT. He's had some great musicians going there. What the hell is going on here, capt? Who am I looking at? What is coach?
Speaker 3:doing in the middle there? No clue man, but he's down there, he's getting it uh he's getting it yeah, I think, um, he's working on his squats. He's been working on his squats to get down like that.
Speaker 2:Coach's a big old boy.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:What would you caption this?
Speaker 3:Golly, I don't know man hey, uh, I don't know.
Speaker 2:Look up Sean, hey Sean look up, hey Sean, look up, coach. Coach, you ripped your pants, yeah. Yeah, that's it, Coach you ripped your pants, I ripped my pants. Coach, you ripped your pants, I ripped my pants, Coach.
Speaker 3:You ripped your britches Yep, and you know it, didn't you? And it's North Louisiana accent. God damn it. I did yes.
Speaker 2:Hey, I done ripped my pants. Yep, ripped it right off the damn scene. Hey, we're going to take a quick break and the Cowboys had a break and Dak decided to get on bended knee. We'll see you on the other side of this break.
Speaker 9:Today is going to be an exciting day at the Hargrove office as we bring in a local celebrity. Welcome the kicking phenom, bert Auburn, conference champion of the Texas Longhorn football team, all-conference kicker. He's going to be our new spokesman. Bert's the best kicker in the conference. He plays for the Texas Longhorns, as you can see, you know Bert's f***ing awesome. Hey, stevie Boo, you're really replacing me with a kicker. No, no, not at all man. Hey guys, who wants a picture with Stevie? Anyone? Stevie almost won a Big 12 championship Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof. Championship Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof?
Speaker 2:The Bully is a cozy Austin original bar and grill that feels like home. Boulevard Bar and Grill, nestled into this Northwest Hills strip mall, recently celebrated two decades. The drink prices are like going back to 2004. It's where familiar faces gather and everyone knows your name. The Bully family are also friends of the stories inside the man Cave podcast.
Speaker 8:Boulevard Bar and Grill on Far West Boulevard in Northwest Austin, and I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine.
Speaker 5:Cause I'm in a field of dandelions, wishing on everyone that you'd be mine. I see forever in your eyes. I feel okay when I see you smile.
Speaker 2:You know, sometimes we forget. Athletes are humans. I feel okay when I see his smile. You know, sometimes we forget athletes are humans. Yeah, and you got to get heavily criticized. But much respect and congratulations to Dak and Sarah Jane Ramos, his fiance.
Speaker 3:That was a nice size rock.
Speaker 2:Yeah, beautiful kiddo too.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm a fan of Dak. Being a North Louisiana guy, I just want him to do well man. Congratulations to him. For sure he's gone through a lot, man, losing his brother the way he did, and things like that. Hats off to him. He could have gone all different kinds of ways with all the adversities he had in his life, but he's obviously honing in on family and that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2:Man, he's a good human. I'm happy for them. Also, it was a busy bye week and you know Jerry Jones is going to figure out a way. I have just an episode on my take. I thought Jerry Jones went too far, but 105.3,. The fan is what he appeared on. He always is on there. Good sports talk radio talent. This is just one clip from last week during the bye week for the Cowboys, and Jerry threatens their jobs because they were doing their job. They're speaking what the fans are saying. What the hell have you done to improve this team? Nothing.
Speaker 5:This is not your job. Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons. Your job, your job, isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job. Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job.
Speaker 5:Well, my job is to ask why, or I'll get another, I'll get somebody else to ask these questions. Man, jerry, we're just, we're trying to figure out why the team is. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding. You're not going to figure out what the team is doing, right or wrong. If you are, or any five or ten like you, you need to come to this meeting I'm going to today. There are 32 teams here. You're geniuses.
Speaker 2:Then he called them yahoos. So do you think that was calculated?
Speaker 3:He did that on purpose because he knew no, no, no, no, that's that's who jerry is man. Um, you know people walk on eggshells around him. Somebody should have fired him a long time ago from being gm, but no one can tell him that. You know that's his ego. He's not gonna stop being gm. Um, if push him, he's going to push you back or push you out.
Speaker 3:This is not the first I'm hearing of that type of behavior. I've had friends that played for him. That's where this is coming from. Jerry is the man in there. He walks like he's the man. He lands his helicopter on the practice fields and that's who he is. And no one's going to tell him not to. If Dak is out on the field and the offense is right there trying to get some practice in, y'all move out the way, because the owner is coming down on the helicopter. So I don't think it was coy, I don't think he was playing. He got a question that he didn't like. He probably can't fire them now because that would be a media nightmare for those guys doing their jobs, and he still fires them.
Speaker 2:But if that wasn't, the what. All they can do is sever the contract. He can't fire them, to my knowledge.
Speaker 3:Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2:They just have a contract with the team to do their pre and post-game show.
Speaker 3:Yeah, exactly that's what I was thinking. I was like it doesn't sound like they actually work for him. But if that company want to keep the contract with Jerry Jones, they definitely can replace those guys, you know.
Speaker 2:I've heard the same. So I've interviewed Jerry four times. He's been good to me, but the most uncomfortable I had is when. Who was the? What was the name of the player? He was the first openly gay player in the NFL that Dallas signed him and I had to. I interviewed him about him and it was in one of the chambers at the Capitol because he was in town. Dallas Cowboys had partnered with the Texas State Lottery and the lottery folks did not like it that. I took over the press conference and started asking sports-related questions. I had a job to do and then when I was in OKC, went down there for the Cowboys a few times and he was all right. But he's the only owner and this is to your point, the only owner that makes himself front and center available outside the locker room. Yeah, every game.
Speaker 3:Yep, and that's a good. That's also a good thing that you know he can get access to the owner, but it's also part of his ego that he's going to be front and center. He's going to find a way to be part of the media even on an off week like this. Right, it's a bye week and we're still talking about him, you know.
Speaker 2:Right. Well, what's your thoughts? Do they have enough in them? Desperation to upset San Fran?
Speaker 3:No, okay, no, they got him next week right upset San Fran no.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 3:No, they got them next week right this Sunday, I think this Sunday coming up. San Fran just lost to KC, san Fran's spitting mad and they're ready to play. No.
Speaker 2:I'll stick with it. They're going to win seven or eight games. I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, you pick lunch. It's on me.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:It's on me.
Speaker 3:How many bets we got out there, man? We got a lot, yeah we got a lot. We got plenty.
Speaker 2:One thing we didn't cover up in the first segment just real quick, things have gotten really bad up in Norman. Really bad. Oh yeah, former Sooner Seth Luttrell, who was part of that 2000 National Championship team he used to be the head coach of North Texas Took him to a few bowls. Venables brought back a lot of the old OU guys. This is Seth Luttrell. This was a week ago. Zach Sanchez, former OU defensive back, look at that question. What's one thing you really want to see the Sooners do on Saturday offensively? He said score A former Sooner. A week later, venables first fired his first-year offensive coordinator. Things are bad, man. They're down five receivers. They don't have any experienced linemen. Defense is on the field far too much. So things are bad in Norman.
Speaker 3:Do you think this is me just pulling something out of my tail? Can OU get enough money together to get Josh Heupel to leave Tennessee to come home?
Speaker 2:Well, that'd be. I don't know, man, this is not official. I've heard that estimated all OU has for NIL is $4 million.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you can't compete with that. You cannot compete. That won't buy you a quarterback. I mean, I don't know that you cannot compete. That won't buy you a quarterback.
Speaker 2:I don't know that. This is just two people who told me this, who say they're in the know.
Speaker 4:I don't know that.
Speaker 2:I just want to preface that it would be a hell of a story. Hypo was fired by OU Bob Stutes Because at that time he and Jay Novell were co-running the offense. They were having problems. In a school like OU you just can't. But this is. John Blake type failures right now. This is late 90s stuff. Ou's bad man.
Speaker 3:They're bad.
Speaker 2:The events is really good. That's why I'm saying what happened to Texas with Georgia doesn't surprise me because of who Texas has played, but it could be great for Texas too, because they're better prepared mentally. Yeah, so Stevie not only is a big Texas football guy, in this football he's an F1 guy, and he and his lovely wife and other friends got to experience this Circuit of the Americas. Did you see that? What was that celebration about?
Speaker 3:That was the win. Circuit of the Americas did you see that? What was that celebration about? That was the win. The Ferraris won went P1 and P2. That's Charles Leclerc and Carlos Seitz. Leclerc won. I'm really excited for the Ferraris to win because my favorite driver, lewis Hamilton, is going to be in the Ferrari next year and Lewis had a terrible weekend this weekend.
Speaker 3:He was the only one that did not finish the race this weekend and he had a horrible qualifying and the Mercedes had some upgrades over the last three weeks and they're actually running well. I just think the car got away from Lewis Hamilton. He's the best driver out there and for the car to get away from him like that it was a terrible mistake to get. He left did not finish in lap three, so that was tough and you know we're big Mercedes Lewis Hamilton fan and so we were really there to see him and we didn't get to see him and I was sitting at turn 18, and he went off at turn 19. So I got a picture of him getting out of the car, mad upset and everything. So it was fun, a lot of fun. It was just disappointing. I guess I had a disappointing weekend, but I'm happy I'm still here. I'm a positive guy.
Speaker 2:So from a lot of high RPMs to an unusual relationship, real life Tom and Jerry on TikToking in the man cave.
Speaker 3:The world is turned upside down, man. What's happening?
Speaker 2:So, friends, or is that mouse dinner?
Speaker 3:He's probably saving it for dinner. That's what it is, you think? Yeah, he's saving it for dinner, savoring.
Speaker 9:Hey man, Tell me something good.
Speaker 2:All right, stevie Lee, perhaps the favorite part of the show, because it's positive. You're a positive guy. Tell me something good, my brother.
Speaker 3:Something good is we got another week to play again. We had a loss, so be it. We got one loss. We now know what to do to win. We felt this loss. We don't want to feel it again. We can move forward. Man, I really think that we run the table from here on out. A&m is going to be a tough out. Vandy is going to be a tough out this week. A&m is going to be a tough out at the end of the year, but we got this. Man. Is that that? That pressure of number one and undefeated is off of us. Let's go out and have fun now. That's something good to me, man. I think that we're gonna be perfectly fine I like it I like it I've got a two-part.
Speaker 2:Tell me something good. First off, I met a lot of Georgia fans in Austin I met. There were two. I was standing in line and there were these two college girls. They said they drove from Athens, georgia overnight and was blown away how big Austin is and how beautiful DKR Texas Memorial Stadium is. And the Georgia fans who were sitting in front of us. There was a father, an older son and then some older people. They were cool. They even said hey, you know those southern gentlemen over here. They were loud dropping F-bombs. We'd been there. They said oh, sorry, sorry. And I said man be a fan, just don't. Yeah, man be a fan, just don't be a fan. And the father said you know what? This is a true SEC atmosphere. He said it's not as loud as Alabama, but it's louder than Auburn. And he said when the bottles started flying. I said oh my God, sorry about that. And he goes well, you're officially an SEC school.
Speaker 3:Yeah, because they did it, Georgia did it, georgia did it in 2022. Sure did.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think it was in Atlanta, wasn't it?
Speaker 3:I believe so. Yeah, so we're here.
Speaker 2:And lastly, today, RBI Austin, you've been to that big fundraising beautiful night that helps inner city kids.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Today was our first annual golf tournament out at Barton Creek on the Fazio course. I didn't play, but I went out there and rode around with a good group and this is the picture you see of our group. I just walked around with them, went hole to hole, a lot of familiar faces, a lot of people you would know, good turnout and it's a year-round love for RBI Austin. Go to rbiaustinorg, check it out, get your tickets. You know for now, at bat you may see Stevie there. I'll be there. So that's a wrap man, episode 418 in the books. For the great city of Shreveport, louisiana, which is the hometown of Stevie Lee and the Hargrove family of Hargrove Roofing. And to my city of my college alma mater, nacogdoches, texas, and my birthplace, the great city, the ATX, the Austin, texas, the epicenter of everything. And to everybody, stevie Lee's family and all you watching, listening much love to you, share love. I mean love a lot, share everything. And to the man Cave, the OG man Cave boys, that being Harbaugh Hards, big Mike and me, coach Moe.
Speaker 9:What do we tell them? Stevie Lee, we out, you see the drip and I'm fitted up.
Speaker 3:I'm in my car, in a Gideon I said get out, bye.
