Speaker 2:

Hi, I'm Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the University of Texas, and I'm Clyde Hargrove. I'm a roofer. I also saw action in 52 games and I fixed a lot of roofs. I also won a Rose Bowl and never lost to A& games and I fixed a lot of roofs. I also won a Rose Bowl and never lost to A&M and I fixed a lot of roofs. Right, stevie? Alright, I'm sorry, I zoned out a little bit.

Speaker 4:

So are you gonna say the thing about Hargrove roofing, hargrove roofing?

Speaker 2:

Know who's on your roof.

Speaker 3:

Is this even gonna work as a commercial?

Speaker 5:

is a commercial. Yep, it's a good day to be a longhorn. I tell you what it sure is pretty fitting. Hank hill made it into the podcast and stevie, it is a great day for longhorn fans and former longhorns like you across this great state, across the country, after what went down in College Station 13 years in the making, and I know it meant a lot to our Aggie brethren and sisters as well. Man describe your emotions then last night and then when you woke up this morning.

Speaker 2:

Oh golly, it was a lot of fun to watch 13 years in the making. I remember playing in that stadium. They have a very nice stadium.

Speaker 4:

Very nice yeah. Very nice.

Speaker 2:

But it brought back memories of God. It's weird over there, but it was a lot of fun, man, a lot of fun to watch. My offense got to get better. You know I'm glad that we got some things that we need to work on for the SEC championship game, but it felt really good to beat up on the Aggies again.

Speaker 5:

You know, before we get moving, let's give a shout-out to our primary sponsor here, hargrove Roofing, based out of Shreveport, they have infiltrated the great state of Texas and they're now family and friends of ours. And man, you saw the commercial, the top it off, at the top of this episode. And Stevie is the marketing genius. Perfect voice, perfect inflection. How does one say it best?

Speaker 2:

Hargrove Roofing know who's on your roof.

Speaker 5:

And you really do give them a shout. Call mary 512-645-3202. Um, I don't know. Before we get this episode truly going, we're going to dive into what it's like here at Kyle Field. If you saw the broadcast, I have been telling everybody this that you know Kyle Field's one of the most electric, exciting places for college football because of sustained volume and their traditions, which you have to want to be an Aggie to love those traditions. But they are loyal and they are tradition rich on all levels. But how the Aggies come out of their tunnel, it has evolved and they make a big deal out of it with the core cadets and with the latest renovations. Man, it's one of the best intros in college football. Here it is, and then I've got a UT response after we see this.

Speaker 3:

All right.

Speaker 5:

That's good hype that gets you excited. If you're an Aggie, if you're a college football fan, if you're a non-biased college football fan, what would be your response to that spectacle if you were there for a first time?

Speaker 2:

They got loud. They get loud and waving their white flags and all that stuff. It's fine. I think I like ours better. I like Auburn when they come out. I think the new lights that they put in these stadiums that go off and on and different colors and like that. I think I like that better. A&m doesn't have that. I think I like that better. A&m doesn't have that. All they got is little fireworks and a little smoke machine. That's it. And I think that we need to check into NCAA rules on how much music that they can pipe into that stadium, because it seems like they have maybe some speakers behind the visitor's bench or something like that man, Because our guys aren't the only ones that have been complaining about the noise in that stadium and they're not just doing the noise. That noise is not just coming from the Corps of Cadets or whatever they call these dudes.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, you got it. You nailed it in the 12th man's towel, so remember the music that A&M uses for their intro. You remember that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 5:

Derek Ochoa and the UT Athletics mainly football social media team. They may be the best in the country. This was their response after winning. Look, check this out what troll job they put orange wind on the animated kyle.

Speaker 2:

Yep, that's perfect man, and it said our state in the caption up there. It sure did. It's our state.

Speaker 5:

Hey, stevie, let's dive into this. We got a lot to talk about Texas and Texas A&M. The 119th version is in the books. Man, we've got a lot to discuss. It's exciting for Texas fans after that 17-7 win. Man, what do you think? What time do you think it is? You think you're ready? Let's roll, let's get this going. Let's do it, let's ride. Oh, we got jokes today. That was the video that was edited when OU in Texas.

Speaker 2:

And if you keep going, when Bradley Cooper sits back down in the chair, you go. Hmm.

Speaker 5:

When they were replaying the 2011 Justin Tucker kick.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, on the screen, they superimposed it on there, man. Speaking of that, we had Cade McCrary who was the holder for four years and the holder for Justin Tucker on that game-winning kick. We had an episode with him. We had an episode with D James Brown yesterday, you know, final Southwest Conference game ever at Kyle Field, Ended their long win streak there. And then he and Mike Adams just put it on A&M in 96, the year they won the first Big 12 championship, an upset defending national champion Nebraska in St Louis. It was a great week. And then you and Lance Gunn, it was a great week of episodes. And, you know, shout out to our Aggie fans. I hope you guys are doing really well this morning, despite the fact, man, it's just great to have it back. And the Longhorns did defeat the Aggies 17-7. And they are headed to the SEC title game in their first year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, it is kind of. It's really really sweet that this is happening. Georgia, they were overall good fans in our stadium, yeah, but you know we're the alum my guys football alum sit right there in section 31. Right above us is the visitors band. Because they have to be in the lower bowl rules that the SEC has. They put their fans behind us too.

Speaker 2:

Sometimes their fans were sprinkled in with us when they had a good first half and they got up on us they started chanting SEC and started really taunting us as UT fans and it was just annoying and obnoxious when we were in the stadium and that, right, there was happening and then for us to be first year in, you know, when it was announced. Also, when it was announced that we were going to the sec, everybody even danny, remember danny came on, danny davis came on and said I don't think that ut would do as good as they think that they're going to do. And everybody, like when it was announced and we were still in the Big 12, everybody would chant SEC to us, like we're going to be killed in the SEC. This is not going to be good in the SEC. And now we're in the SEC championship game.

Speaker 2:

What a chance to win the SEC championship year one, year one. So this is really, really sweet for me. We took it on the chin. All the chance, all the the talk and all that stuff. We took it on the chin and said we're just gonna put our head down and work and that's what we did.

Speaker 5:

And here we are right now here we are, chance to uh have a rematch. Well, it will be a rematch we'll get into that against georgia and, who knows, there may be a third meeting with Georgia in in the CFP. But this pretty much locks up uh, the CFP for UT win or lose in Atlanta, georgia. Uh, before, hey, before we get going, uh, please give us a shout and like and follow each of our social media platforms Facebook, igx, youtube and TikTok and you can see all of our episodes on Facebook and on YouTube, and some on IG, and all of them on X, whenever all the technicalities are aligned, so to speak. Let's get into it. I think this is perhaps the biggest moment of the game that Texas put a big flex on the Aggies, that goal line stand and limiting A&M to 248 yards total offense. This was what I like to call a culture play. I like him under center Daniels. Nothing Texas makes the stop. Ethan Burke got there.

Speaker 5:

Ethan Burke, westlake Chaparral. Michael Taft, westlake Chaparral, and we're going to hear from him on an entirely different subject, but these guys as they mature. This defense Stevie, you play defensive tackle for the Mack Brown. Stevie, you play defensive tackle for the Mack Brown. How close are we to saying that this may be the top three to five defenses in UT football history?

Speaker 2:

No question, it is. No question it is. Are we number one in the country defense right now?

Speaker 3:

Last I checked at least scoring defense.

Speaker 2:

Yeah defense right now.

Speaker 5:

Last I checked at least scoring defense yeah so I think that we are.

Speaker 2:

I think the way PK have these guys gelling is everyone doing their job and they're doing it at a great, excellent, you know. And so once everyone doing their job the way that they're doing, no one has a chance to double team. Everyone is winning one-on-one matchups. Vernon brought in. If we talk about him. Vernon had a game on him, man Vernon. In that play that we just ran, vernon was the first one to get back there to hold him up and everybody else came in and finished it out.

Speaker 2:

Vernon was whooping that left guard and tackle's tail all night. Man, he had a game on him.

Speaker 5:

He did and essentially the game was determined by Texas early at the line of scrimmage. A&m is close, but there is a gap between Texas. There's a gap because for Texas to go in there with that type of crowd hostility and take the air out of the stadium, they went up 17-0. And this is Sark and first-year head coach at Texas A&M, Mike Elko, pretty much summing it up how this game went.

Speaker 8:

Just defensively. Tonight was an absolute dominant performance, you know, and they're good, they're talented and you know. Hats off to them because they physically annihilated us a physically annihilated annihilated.

Speaker 2:

That's a great way of putting it. Thank you, uh. But no, he's absolutely correct, man. We came in physical, we came in executing the game plan. Everything went really well. But, like I told you, in rivalry games you're going to get hit, you're going to get hit with something.

Speaker 2:

That first drive they came out and they got plays and got plays and got plays and we stopped them on a goal line the very first drive of the game and I said okay, let's get to the sideline, figure it out. And that's exactly what we did Figured it out, figured out their offense. It's not what you come into the game to do. It's about your adjustments during the game, you know. And so we adjusted to a little bit to them, little by little, actually, in my opinion. So they came out moving the ball, then they came out moving it a little bit, and then we get three and outs. You know, we figured them out, you know, and it's an evolving defense, like we weren't this good in the beginning of the year. And this is what you want. You want to get better as the year goes on.

Speaker 5:

So and that's the big piece. And then, of course, defense championship type of teams play this level of defense yeah this level of defense is rare, these modern, this modern day really is.

Speaker 5:

And then teams who complement their defense with a solid run offense. So I'm not piling on to be fanboy at all, I'm just pointing out the obvious. When you're down your top two running backs and now you've got Ballou who is splitting carries, this guy I like to say the contrivion factor, trey Weiser, I mean yesterday, it's unreal 186 yards rush and they gave him the rock 33 times. This is a sophomore from the pipeline of DeSoto Texas, claude Mathis, friend of the program, head coach over there. Those DeSoto boys are different, but this young man, I mean, if you really think about what he does, he bounces off tacklers, he somehow he's hard to bring down and he has deceptive acceleration of speed. I mean, when you're looking at this, watching him run, he just leans forward all the time and you're going to get three, four, five yards of carry.

Speaker 2:

And I think that we found a kink in A&M's chain because we were running that stretch play and Trey was using his eyes to find the hole and he would hesitate and hesitate, stretching the play out and then, boom, hit the hole, hitting the hole. For me he hadn't been a power back like that, he was just finessed. For me he's very shifty, but he would hit that hole like a power back and bouncing off people. There was something in that kid last night, man, he just something just like clicked with him and you know he will turn a two-yard game, get hit two yards beyond the line of scrimmage but fall forward another five. You know, and that's what you want out of your running backs, man. You know, if we give you the ball, we need four yards out of you every single time. He was doing that, every single time.

Speaker 5:

He got five yards of carry.

Speaker 2:

That's all we need, man, because five plus five equals ten. That's another first down. Five plus five equals ten. You know it's unreal. Yeah, it's unreal, man. It was great to see him play. Now, hats off to Quinn Travion, hats off to him, but that O-line was just digging him out again.

Speaker 5:

Well, and that's with part of the game. Without the bell cow, the NFL prospect, he's going to be a first-rounder. Kelvin Banks, have you heard anything? Is he out for a significant time?

Speaker 2:

I haven't heard anything, but from the way he walked off the field I think that he's good. I think he'll play next week. You know we have a great staff getting people back on the field. I don't know I haven't heard anything from any MRIs or anything like that but the way he walked off the field and then walked back on the field with a boot it's fine to have a boot on Just take the weight off of your ankle if it is his ankle, but I think that he'll be okay. He's a durable guy, you know. But the way he walked off the field it looked like he could have gone back out there and played. They just didn't need him.

Speaker 5:

Well the guy who came in for him, redshirt freshman Goosby, it was like there was zero drop-off and you talked about in August that you thought there's more depth on this O-line and D-line than there ever has been.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying to get people to listen to me more man.

Speaker 5:

You got me finally.

Speaker 2:

I say all this and no one wants to believe me, man, but when I went out there I was like, are those the ones or those the twos? No, those are the twos, but they look like ones, you know. So there's no drop off. You can interchange that whole offensive line. I believe they'll do the same thing what they did last, last night.

Speaker 5:

Well, one of the most brilliant moves I saw was so Arch is out there, a&m takes a timeout and they bring Quinn out at the timeout. So Elko and the Aggies were preparing for Arch and Sark did that on purpose.

Speaker 2:

Yeah he did.

Speaker 5:

Let's play some chess.

Speaker 2:

You want to play? Let's ride. Yeah, that was fun to watch man, and I don't think Elko actually knew what he was getting himself into when coming into this game.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, he also are cool, calm, collected. He got out there. You can see him on pregame two or three hours on the field. He just he's just cool man. He's just cool as a cucumber. Now, speaking of Quinn, we were worried or concerned whether he'd make it or not, so this is what they taped to his ankle. This is from Holly Rowe, a storied great sideline reporter. It's kind of the likeness of what he wore and it was made by a physician at, if I remember correctly, at Notre Dame. So that protected him because if you saw it was rather bulky how they after it was taped. I mean, would you have known that by how he moved last night?

Speaker 2:

Well, when he went on that long run up the sideline it was a little hitch in his step. He did have a little hitch, but being out there, going out there and actually competing the way he did and going on that long run listen, hats off to him for being a tough, tough guy and going out there and being able to compete at this high of a level with a bum ankle like that man, hats off to him. But that that looks like a lot of equipment on your ankle, man. I don't know how you're playing and Stevie, he did.

Speaker 5:

I know you're on him sometime. We all are about sometimes on the deep balls, but he dropped some dimes every couple of dimes, which were key early on.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and you know, when those balls go up in the air, it's like holding my breath, like, oh yes, he got it, he got it and I'm rooting for him. I really want him to hit those deep balls because we're going to need him, but he hit them last night. I'm proud of him, happy for that. There was a couple of them that he didn't hit. I think there's some communication issues pre-snap communication issues that they're having right now. That may be another reason why his long balls are down like that. We really need to get that under control.

Speaker 5:

The Arch Manning package they brought him in. And man, this kid can. It's just amazing watching him his speed, especially this touchdown run, how durable the hits.

Speaker 1:

Just bounced off of him With a keeper and Arch Manning still rumbling, banging down near the pylon.

Speaker 5:

So that was look at that. He took a good hit and they said he touched the pylon. So that was look at that. He took a good hit and they said he touched the pylon, was in bounce. I mean, that's not what you would expect from him. He's tough man.

Speaker 2:

Yeah he is. It was really fun to watch him man he going around the edge. He's a baller. He found a way to get into the end zone. He's just a baller.

Speaker 5:

I mean look at him moving forward. Do you think this package will continue?

Speaker 2:

I think it has to man. It's been all success for him.

Speaker 5:

It has to. It gives youers a break.

Speaker 2:

It gives youers a break Yep, it gives viewers a break. It keeps Manning engaged into the game and actually you have the game plan against him as well. So teams game plan it against two quarterbacks instead of one, putting Arch Manning in there. People are thinking he's going to run every single time, but then let him drop back and dump it off at somebody so we know that he can run. He can also pass it, thinking he's going to run every single time.

Speaker 2:

But then let him drop back and dump it off at somebody you know. So we know that he can run. He can also pass it. So game planning for two quarterbacks is going to be even harder for going forward for these teams that's going to have short weeks to get ready for Texas.

Speaker 5:

You know, when you look at on the other side of the ball, texas A&M Marcel Reed. You know, when you look at on the other side of the ball, texas A&M Marcel Reed, you know he, I think he's got a bright future. And I was texting with former Aggie quarterback Reggie McNeil and I was just asking him hey man, does he remind you of yourself? And he said you know he doesn't read his progressions well enough yet. That's because he's young, but I think he's improved. Marcel Reed extremely athletic, he's thin, he's a good quarterback, he has a pretty good arm. This was his analysis of what he saw last night in that Texas defense.

Speaker 1:

It's pretty difficult to get the pass game going when a team knows that they can stop your run.

Speaker 5:

We weren't able to get it going and that killed us tonight acknowledging that I'm not trying to read into things, but is he basically saying that they have not? I can, I'm going to go ahead and say it. They haven't faced a defense like this.

Speaker 2:

That's basically what he's saying. Yeah, yeah, they could not get anything going on the run and then we stopped them on the run with our front four thing going on the run and then we stopped him on the run with our front four and we just had uh is a taft, uh was just spying the quarter spying him. So that's that's on us. Yes, what's that?

Speaker 5:

so this is the ad. You know the message boards are always fun. You know people just lose their shit and message boards. So here's the aggie fan base. Seriously, TU goes to Atlanta year one. We're still smelling our own farts after 13 years, and then the other one says they're so far ahead of us it ain't even funny.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, I think if you go back and look at everything that had happened during the announcement, sark started building this team to compete in the SEC. The way we are Competing, with big physical defensive tackles, big physical offensive linemen, that's what you have to have to compete in the SEC. And you know, going to the SEC championship game, beating A&M like we did, running through everyone like we did, it's only going to get better because we got the eyes of all these big boy recruits now.

Speaker 5:

Yeah Well, it just makes me wonder how does A&M I mean A&M's had good talent. I just it's just shocking. They have everything to win, everything that should result into more success and here we are eight and four.

Speaker 2:

OK. So it looks to me, though they have all the money and the personnel in some places, like they had the head coach Jimbo and now they got another one, whatever, but I don't think their strength and conditioning staff kept their guys up Like those guys would come in. They were getting good recruits, but then were they getting better while they were there. That's a good point. Our guys are getting better, bigger, faster and stronger.

Speaker 5:

Shout out to Baron Sorrell he's one of those guys that he's gotten better. Yeah, so I got to bring it up. We talked about it with Lance Gunn. This is going to be a little sarcasm. I know we like sarcasm, we like humor, sarcasm. I know we like sarcasm, we like humor. So people knew it was sarcasm when I put it up on Twitter. But I said so, has UT played anybody yet? Does this win count? So here's my deal I'm not defending Texas, but I'm defending those who want to make this argument. You can't. Texas has played nine bowl-eligible teams. They've defeated eight bowl-eligible teams. They've played five ranked teams. So why do you want to say no, you didn't play any ranked teams. Yes, you did they were ranked when you played them.

Speaker 2:

Yep.

Speaker 5:

And defeated four of those ranked teams. Two of those five, to their point, are currently ranked. A&m is no longer ranked. Yeah, but what am I missing? What are people trying to? What are they trying to say?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, man. I don't know what their point is. Man, we don't have control over who. We play you line up in front of us and we're going to just play you and we'll see how good we are, because we made it to the Big 12 Championship. I'm sorry.

Speaker 5:

You did last year. You did last year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly, and we'll just see, man, we'll put the ball on the ground and line up and let's see.

Speaker 5:

You know, a lot of people are planting flags at the middle of the field and causing problems and it really erupted yesterday at some of the big games. But Sark is on the field, he's watching his players. You could tell him. You could tell he was looking watching his guys. The chancellor of UT System E-Type last name, e-type he came up to him and kind of gave him the attaboy hug because he was going to run out at midfield, because he basically saw this and was trying to prevent what could have happened at A&M last night.

Speaker 8:

Rivalries are great, but there's a way to win it with class, and I just didn't think that's the right thing to do. We shouldn't be on their logo, we shouldn't be planting any flags on their logo, and I'd like to you know, whenever that day comes get the same respect in return.

Speaker 5:

I just think there's See yeah, class set an example.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely yeah. Well, I don't know when, when that started. It's been going on for a couple of years now, but it got out of hand, like yesterday, with a lot of universities and schools.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, they did. I remember 1992. I don't think it was an A&M football player or players, but they tore, cut part of the longhorn off at midfield at DKR.

Speaker 2:

Yep, I hear you. And then I remember when Texas Tech came to play us, when we still had grass in the field, they stomped, you know, scraped, with their cleats, the double T's in the middle of our longhorn, in the middle of the field, nice, the double T's the middle of our longhorn, in the middle of the field, nice, the double T's, you know, whatever their logo in the middle of the face of the longhorn pistol.

Speaker 5:

I was pretty pissed off when I saw this. There was college game day. The signs are awesome. So we all know the tragic loss of Jake Ellinger, Sam's brother. I thought I thought this was AI generated, but this was literally one of the signs that was in College Station yesterday. Jake Ellinger should have joined SARC at rehab and put a number on there Because he lost his life due to the presence of fentanyl in his body.

Speaker 5:

All right, so, he went to Westlake. Obviously, sam Jake and many prayers for the Ellinger family. This is like peeling the Band-Aid off and just total disrespect for any family. Michael Taft, who was very close with Jake after the game man, I have all due respect for Taff for this.

Speaker 7:

First I want to say I feel sorry for the person that posted that sign. I feel sorry for him because I don't know what he's going through, how much he's dealing with in life, to think that that was a good idea, to think that was okay, to think that was appropriate for anything, no matter what rivalry, to think that was okay. So I just wanted to make that clear. The second thing is just so everybody knows out there Jake Gallagher didn't die because he overdosed, he got drugged, he got poisoned. He didn't die because he overdosed, he got drugged, he got poisoned. He didn't die because he overdosed.

Speaker 7:

So I want everybody to know that he was poisoned and he loved this team so much and I wish that he could be part of this. But he was drugged. He was not overdosed. He was not a drug addict by any means. So I want to make that very clear.

Speaker 2:

Wow, yeah, that's good stuff that he stood up for his friend. They went to school together, correct? Yeah, westlake, westlake. Yeah, golly, and I hate that. This is a good, clean rivalry and I hate when people like that start to muck it up a little bit. It's not right.

Speaker 5:

There are former Longhorns quote tweeting it and a lot of people quote tweeting. I love the response. The good side of social media saying let's find who this is.

Speaker 2:

I don't think that's a good idea. Let's not find who it is, let's just keep it away. I don't know if's a good idea. Let's not find who it is, let's just keep it away. I don't know if we need to find who it is and then we kill that person let's talk about it, put it away and hopefully that person would go forward and do better. Or, if it's a student, a&m, take disciplinary actions, because I don't think it's a good thing to us to find who it is. You know what I mean.

Speaker 5:

That's a good point it's just like tap said you have no idea what they're going to. But no idea through, but at the same time, people just need to learn. Absolutely it's not funny. It's not funny at it's not funny at all.

Speaker 2:

It could be real bad for that kid. Whoever that wrote that sign, it could get really bad. Let's hope he's in hiding. Hopefully he's not from the state and he's out of the state by now.

Speaker 5:

When I saw it, man, I was furious.

Speaker 5:

I thought you were telling your family or anyone because fentanyl is a horrible, horrible, uh issue, big time issue right now that we're trying to regulate, and that's not funny. And then me, having had my late father being an alcoholic related to starkeesian, I'm just like, come on, man, that's where you draw a line. So you mentioned it. So how are we? I get it, man, the hate. I saw Sam Houston and SFA go to blows after a game before it was all out blow. I saw a fight at Stephen F McNeese. I've seen fights OSU, oklahoma State at Bedlam, but, man, this and I was on the field for those. And this I don't know, man, you be a former player, you tell me so the police had pulled out the pepper spray on the players.

Speaker 2:

So, okay, it happened. You got to win with grace, you got to lose with grace as well. And so us on the field, in between the lines, we figured that out. Coaches, we figured that out. Police officers pulling out pepper spray, I don't like at all. I don't think that they can go out there and help break up the fight and things like that. But pulling out a non-lethal weapon to regulate some kids on the football field who have pads on, they know not to hurt each other, they know how to fight. We're fighting and scuffling in a heat of battle, but we're still not trying to kill each other or anything like that. You know what I mean. So to pull out the pepper spray, for me that was extreme and a cop that probably his blood was boiling and didn't know how to control his emotions in that, in that moment. And so break the fight up. But let's not use any kind of weapons to break the fight up. You know what I mean.

Speaker 5:

I think I get it. So, oh, you did that at Ohio state a few years ago. Baker Mayfield flag. I mean what would you? I mean A&M Mike Elko got his team off the field immediately. Okay, after they sang their A&M school song, they left the field. They knew. I mean that's why Sark was on alert yesterday. But I don't know what would you do if you saw A&M next year. Another team or Arkansas, try to plant their flag at the 50 at DKR.

Speaker 2:

So hopefully, like Sark said, that we get the same respect that we tried to give them yesterday, and we did give them that respect. He stopped it before it happened, right, um, but it is a problem if, if, if, they come out there and try to do the same thing. I mean you have to defend your field and not get disrespected. I guess, um, uh, people were saying, you know, fight during the 60 minutes and but that is your field and you gotta win with uh grace as well. Well, we won in between the 60 minutes and let's get off the field, celebrate in our locker room, celebrate with our guys. Houston Nutt did that when we played Arkansas and they beat us at home.

Speaker 2:

That's the only home game I lost at the University of Texas. They celebrated a little bit too much on our field and, uh, front page of their paper was them celebrating on our field after we had left the field and uh, they're still out there celebrating and things like that. So, um, you know it's, it's, it's disrespectful, it's um classless. Go and celebrate with your guys and it's just like I said earlier when Georgia was chanting SEC and horns downing us in our face. You are chanting in front of us instead of celebrating your team. You wanna down us so bad instead of celebrating the win. So you wanna taunt the loss instead of celebrating the win. So that's the hard part about the passion of college football right now is we really need to get back to if we are gonna win, we win with grace. If we're gonna lose, we lose with grace and we walk off.

Speaker 5:

Learn how to lose properly. How about that? So Texas moves up naturally to number two. So somehow someway Georgia's back up in the top five Ohio State ahead of fall to eight. Look at SMU. Smu in the top ten. I think the South Carolina Gamecocks should be discussed or considered. Those Cox are a good football team, number 11.

Speaker 2:

They are a good football team man, I am agreeing with you. You think Ohio State should drop that far to eight.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, that's their second loss.

Speaker 2:

It is.

Speaker 5:

They lost at home to an unranked team.

Speaker 2:

Yep, yep. Okay, gotcha, gotcha, who has Boise played? They lost to.

Speaker 5:

Oregon by less than a touchdown.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5:

All right, that's their only loss.

Speaker 2:

Yep. Well, we are pretty spot on then. I think, we're pretty spot on. So you got one, two, three.

Speaker 5:

I think Arizona State is a dangerous team. You get a chance. Watch that running back. I think his last name's Scattybo Scattybo. He's fun to watch.

Speaker 2:

Gotcha. So you got one, two, three, four SEC teams in the top 12, with two on the outside looking in. Yeah, yeah, bro, it's a tough conference man and you know this game next week is really important on how we, you know, are going to fare out in the playoffs. I'd rather play two games and not having to play three.

Speaker 5:

The key that I don't like about the CFP right now is the simple fact that this has no bearing meaning. You could be in the top 12, but you may not make it. They take the five conference champions. Four of the top five get first-round buys, which it shouldn't be that way. It should be all right. Let's just give bids to the best. All conference champions get auto buys but, like Boise is guaranteed because of their ranking and right now SMU may jump them, so it's conference championship. We won't roll through all of them, but it's just kind of give you. This is going to be another fun weekend, stevie. It's a lot on this graphic here. These are all the conference championship games. All right, this helps yes, oh.

Speaker 5:

I don't know why I made Big Ten so big, but yeah Right.

Speaker 7:

But SMU and Clemson.

Speaker 5:

I don't know why I made Big Ten so big yeah. But SMU and Clemson and Iowa State's first 10-win season in program history, is it?

Speaker 2:

really yeah, even the year they beat us.

Speaker 5:

Oh, they beat us with worse teams.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we weren't good back then. Yeah, this is good, I actually. Can you send me this graphic. Yeah, I will, I will definitely do it. Yeah, this is pretty amazing.

Speaker 5:

Yeah that is pretty cool guy, james brown, speaking of conference championship weekend. So it was about this time in december of 96, texas first year in the big 12. Nebraska was rolling back then and they were number three in the country and everybody was saying, you know, Texas had won. The Big 12. South Started the year off horribly, horribly and Texas ended up upsetting Nebraska. I mean it was one of the best games in Longhorn football history. Well, everyone was doubting Texas. Texas was a double-digit dog and this is what James Brown. He was the VIP of episode 432. I asked him about that and this is him reliving that.

Speaker 6:

We were the 21-point underdog. You know we have that media day every Monday and halfway through the media day of them eating the sandwiches and everything you know. I just got tired of the question how do you feel, James, going into this game knowing you're going to lose by 21? How do you feel, you know, knowing you're 21 point underdog, I was like, hey, we're gonna, we might beat these guys by 21 points. You know that's the way we feel. They're a man-to-man team. We have a lot of speed, just like a m you know game. Before they tried to blitz us, uh, and tried to play that man-to-man. So you know we had an answer for them and we were talented, aggressive, fun-loving within ourselves, a bunch of group 38 to 27,.

Speaker 5:

I think was the final score at Texas.

Speaker 2:

It's good stuff, man.

Speaker 5:

Kind of let you know Matt Brown. I think his coaching career is over with. I think if he wants to, he can get back into broadcasting. He's so good at it and so started out in North Carolina, coached at Texas, recruited you and it was handled poorly. Poorly and this was his response yesterday and I cut it up a lot. It was just handled poorly in my opinion, because there was horrible communication, because it all stemmed to that loss to James Madison earlier in the year where they got manhandled After James.

Speaker 4:

Madison. We played awful and then they started looking for coaches and they should have. I felt like we probably couldn't overcome that, but my job is to take care of those kids, and they should have. I felt like we probably couldn't overcome that, but my job is to take care of those kids. I've spent 16 years at this place out of my 36 as a head coach. I love the state of North Carolina. We love the mountains, we love the beach, we love Chapel Hill. The University has been a huge part of my life. I always said for God to tell me when it's time to go. And oh my gosh, this year I've gotten a bunch of answers and tonight just piled on. So I said I got it. God, I've had enough. Man, I hear you, I hear you.

Speaker 5:

Your quick thoughts. It's hard to watch that, but everything's a cycle. Everything has an ending chapter to a book.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. For me, though, man, because I watch college football and I know Coach Brown and I knew what was going on at North Carolina. North Carolina had their starting quarterback that went down with a broken leg the first game of the season. He was talking about Heisman. They were talking about Heisman talking to him. After losing a quarterback like that, they have to revamp their whole team on the fly.

Speaker 2:

For me, coach Brown is being scapegoated, and that's okay. That's why he gets paid $4 million a year or whatever they were paying him over there. I know that was Texas money that we were giving him, and so Coach has cemented his legacy already. He recruited. He was a great recruiter. He talked first-round draft pick guys to come back for their senior years. He has raised so much money for the University of Texas and North Carolina. He's done everything that he could do. He's helped raise good young men, productive citizens of this society. His wife has been great. Like I said, his legacy is cemented. I'm happy that he's going to go sit down somewhere. He was the oldest coach in college football.

Speaker 2:

What else did you want to happen, coach? I mean, you've done everything. You went to a university, got a name for yourself there and then came to the University of Texas, got a name for yourself there and then came to the University of Texas, got a name for yourself there and then went back to a university that wanted you again and then rebuilt their program again. He's done it, y'all. He's in the College Football Hall of Fame already. What more did you want from him? You know what I mean. So go right off into the sunset man and have fun. He loves North Carolina. He said it there. He loves North Carolina. He always kept a house there. People don't know that. Then, when he was here in Texas, he always kept a house in North Carolina and so I always knew he would go back there. I didn't know he was going to coach back there, but I knew that he was gonna go retire back there.

Speaker 2:

You know, um, that's my guy. He got me here, taught me a lot of great things. Um, he was there for me. I wrote on his wife's post, um, that he and his wife was there for me when cole pitman died and his wife sally uh helped me, uh, jump start my real estate career. So, uh, they didn't just get us here to come play football for this university, they got us here to be productive, young, productive citizens of this society and they wanted you to do that and they helped you along with that. And so you know I'm better from knowing and being coached by Coach Brown. My family is better for for knowing Coach Brown and I got really good friends from through knowing Coach Brown. He wanted us to be a family in jail together.

Speaker 2:

I can say I can go on and on, man, so I'm just going to stop there. But I can go on and on about this guy being there for us. As long as you're doing what you need to do, he's going to help you in any way. He'll give you the shirt off his back. He'll help you in any way he can. When Cole Pittman died, he didn't even care about being legal for the NCAA. He just wanted to help human beings get through this tragedy.

Speaker 5:

I've always thought the world of Mac good. It's funny man. When he trusts you. It's freaking hilarious yeah.

Speaker 2:

And that's funny to say that because he loved everyone that was in the circle, everyone around him. But one thing he did hate was the media. He hated the media man. He would talk to us about the media. He's like the media is like having a snake in your pocket. They're right there, but when you stick your hand in there and try to be cute, they're going to bite you.

Speaker 5:

He was a great guy to everybody. He was always respectful. Yeah, yeah yeah. But, it took a lot for him to trust you. If you were on the media side. You know he's always been good and he's always been good to me. I'll say that.

Speaker 5:

The other thing is I admire each of you who got to play for him, whether you were at Appalachian State, tulane, tulane that's how I learned how to say it properly was through Mac Tulane, tulane, not Tulane. You were saying Tulane, yeah, it's Tulane. Oh man, yeah, I got scolded on that one Brother. Let's take a quick break and it's going to be a very fast second segment. We're going to find out who's left in the Texas high school football playoffs from Austin. A hint, not many, but there is a big rivalry that's going to take place. And lesson learned when you shit your britches, probably not best to run a marathon. We'll see you another Saturday this break.

Speaker 3:

Today is going to be an exciting day at the Hargrove office as we bring in a local celebrity. Welcome the kicking phenom, bert Auburn, conference champion of the Texas Longhorn football team, all-conference kicker. He's going to be our new spokesman. Bert's the best kicker in the conference. He plays for the Texas Longhorns, as you can see. You know Bert's f***ing awesome. Hey, stevie.

Speaker 3:

Boo you're really replacing me with a kicker. No, not at all, man. Hey guys, who wants a picture with Stevie? Anyone? Stevie almost won a Big 12 championship, Hargrove Roofing. Know who's on your roof.

Speaker 5:

Austin, texas, is changing every day, but one constant is Dirty Martin's place on Guad. Dirty's recently celebrated 98 years young and the future is solid, and this space in the back is open to host any event, personal or business related.

Speaker 3:

Hey everyone. It's Daniel here at Dirty Martin's. We're in the burnt orange room. We are currently booking a lot of parties back here. If you can see, we've got a capacity for about 90 people, but we are excited to host any party that you might want to bring. Give Daniel.

Speaker 5:

Young a call at Dirty to reserve this space for any event that you can think of. System Overload Outro man, I'm just keeping it up because I love the music, one of my best. Oh, I love those tracks, I really do. How about that? The Battle of the Lakes in the Elite Eight, lake, travis and Westlake meeting again.

Speaker 2:

Where are they playing? I?

Speaker 5:

think they're playing over there, off of Parmer, the Palace on Parmer, okay.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Round Rock, isd I may have to go check that out, man.

Speaker 5:

Tick-tocking in the man cave. You know I've run a lot of foot races. Nothing longer than nine miles and ten miles, whatever. It is Not even a half marathon, but I've come close. You know, bodily functions happen, but you figure out a way to mind over matter not to allow it to happen. But this lady just said eff it. Hey, this is a marathon I'm running, that's 26.2 miles. Just please, please, don't reveal it on on live tv as hard as she could and she went all in myself, so can you not get my ass?

Speaker 2:

thank you sorry well, you told everybody, so you may as well see it anyway it's got to be direct sometimes no, all the times be direct be direct man, direct man. Oh my goodness, I've never run that much. I have to do that.

Speaker 5:

I don't run as much as I used to. I don't run much period, but I need to get back into it. I need to get you into pickleball? Let's do it. I'd love to. I just got to stretch my hammy, get back in yoga, so you won't watch me blow out a hammy I was getting into pickleball earlier this year, and then I ripped my shoulder up.

Speaker 2:

I remember that I had to have surgery on my shoulder, but I'm all cleared now and I'm starting to swing the clubs again.

Speaker 5:

Good lordy.

Speaker 2:

Hey Ben. Tell me something good.

Speaker 5:

Alright, my friend, we are. This is the last month of 2024. It's the season of giving, always is. It sounds cliche, but it's a fact.

Speaker 7:

Okay.

Speaker 5:

There's a lot of good things around us. We just witnessed one of the great things for sports fans, for what we all have ties. There's a lot of rivalries, but, man, tell me something good that you have on your mind, because I've got mine too, but just tell me something good, my brother.

Speaker 2:

Man, it's the Christmas season, now, thanksgiving's over. You know, the last show I was on location in Shreveport, louisiana. I came back probably five, 10 pounds heavier and something good. Is man really, dude? It's Christmas season and it is the season for giving and things like that.

Speaker 2:

But take the family out, go see the lights. There's so many things to do around town in Austin. But take the family out, go see the lights. There's so many things to do around town in Austin. You know. You can go out to Dakota Circuit of the Americas and do the lights out there and do a hot lap too on the track. I did it once in my Tahoe, did you really? Yeah, I did. And then you can go out to Mozart's, mozart's Lights down on Lake Austin. It's just so much. And then Round Rock Parks and Rec redid the old settlements park up here for a bunch of lights for the kids, man. So it's really a good time for the kids to enjoy themselves. They got two more weeks of school and then they're out for Christmas. That's something good, man. It's the Christmas season right now. Enjoy your family out there. And and please, please, please, everyone's going to be out spending money. Tempers are going to be high. Be kind to each other. Y'all be kind. We're all in this world together we're going to bump into each other's.

Speaker 3:

Just say excuse me you know, just say it's hard to pardon me. Just say excuse me, pardon me.

Speaker 5:

Pardon me and say thank you when Stevie or myself hold the door open for you. Nothing chaps my ass more when I hold the door open for either gender and they just walk in and don't say thank you.

Speaker 2:

You know what, in my old age though man me, in my old age, I try to be kind with it. But if someone walks in the door and I'm holding it and they don't say anything, I just politely, with a smile, with a Steve Lee smile, say you're welcome, I do the same thing, you're welcome, you're welcome.

Speaker 5:

I'll tell you something good. Me and the lovely Trish had a beautiful Thanksgiving together. We went to you know there's a lot of options on Thanksgiving, more than you would think we made reservations at the Hyatt Centric, very small restaurant. They did a great job. They're very new. I didn't know there were three Hyatts all in that downtown area Very small. Food was great for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 5:

We just had a great time, just a great moment to hit pause, get away from work, get away from the podcast, and just had a great time together. And then started, you know, realizing our friends, everyone, just it's just to embrace these because ste, stevie and I know, you know you don't know how many moments that you have and it goes back to that QTR from our friend Jay Boulware QTR quality time remaining. Make this. You live in one of the best places in America for holiday festivities. As Stevie said, enjoy it, enjoy it with your people and show some love to your tribe man and just put that positive energy out to the world. Man, you have no idea how positively you can affect someone's day or turn that hey. And to the beautiful town of Shreveport, louisiana, the home of the Stevie Lee and his wonderful family and the home of Hargrove Roofing, and to my college alma mater town, the Nacogdoches, texas, paradise in the pines, and to my beautiful hometown, austin, texas, and to all those towns, oklahoma City, san Angelo, lufkin, everywhere. Much love to you guys, much love to you across the country.

Speaker 5:

Happy holidays, merry Christmas, happy New Year, all of it. Happy Hanukkah, happy Kwanzaa Christmas, happy New Year All of it. Happy Hanukkah, happy Kwanzaa. Let's go. We love you. And for the OG man Cave boys, that being Harbaugh Harz, big Mike and D Coach Moe, what do we tell them? Stevie Lee, we out.

Speaker 7:

You see the drippy. I'm fitted up, I'm in my car in a Gideon.

Speaker 4:

I said get out Yep.

Speaker 5:

It's a good day to be a Longhorn. I tell you what.

Speaker 3:

It sure is.
