Speaker 2:

Today is going to be an exciting day at the Hargrove office as we bring in a local celebrity. Welcome the kicking phenom, bert Auburn, conference champion of the Texas Longhorn football team, all-conference kicker. He's going to be our new spokesman. Bert's the best kicker in the conference. He plays for the Texas Longhorns, as you can see. You know Bert's f***ing awesome. Hey, stevie. Boo, you're really replacing me with a kicker? No, not at all, man. Hey guys, who wants a picture with stevie? Anyone? Stevie almost won a big 12 championship, hardgrove roofing.

Speaker 4:

Know who's on your roof we're going back to the a. We're going back to the a. We're going back to the a.

Speaker 6:

Let's go how about our guy david benda? Uh stories inside the man cave vip alum. Uh, the Longhorns took care of business. You know, it was so beautiful, stevie, and we're going to dive deep into this because I think a lot of people woke up on Sunday and today, on Monday, and realized, dang, that was a postseason game at DKR.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that was pretty fun, man. It was a lot of fun to watch a lot of fun to. I mean, it was a postseason game at DKR. Yeah, that was pretty fun, man, it was a lot of fun to watch, A lot of fun to. I mean, it was a beautiful day in Austin, man, I wasn't there.

Speaker 6:

You missed out.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's okay, I was with family, but it was really really fun.

Speaker 6:

Your family's always fun, I will say a fraternity brother from my college days. I took him, and then a friend of mine who I graduated high school with her husband reached out to me while we were there and said, hey, do you want to sit with us? They were great seats, great seats on the lower upper deck, west side, because my season tickets are up there near the rings of Uranus, on the north end zone, upper deck, and we had a great time. Great time, shout out to Rob Roth and his father-in-law. We had a great time and it was just from an objective point of view, postseason college football at that level.

Speaker 6:

It is here to stay and it's only going to get better. And despite any opinions on how many teams or whatnot, it doesn't matter. Postseason football, the Longhorns advanced. And before we get going and really dive into this and bring a lot of fun to you, the viewer, listener, I am Sean Fletch, the host of Stories Inside the man Cave that is Stevie Lee, former Longhorn defensive tackle played for the great Matt Brown, and this series of episodes called the Pass Rush with Stevie Lee would not be possible without Hargrove Roofing and they are rooted deeply to Stevie Lee's hometown in Shreveport and they have a significant presence here in the Austin Texas area.

Speaker 3:

They do Hargrove Roofing.

Speaker 6:

Know who's on your roof and they are good people, treat us well and you know what, stevie man? They are big fans of what we do and they are big fans of texas longhorns, footballs, athletics, whatnot, and they're just fun to hang around. Visit the ashtell office on ashtell and austin and go say hi to coach ab, or just give them a call and they will take care of your roof. Stevie Lee, the playoffs continue, but we've got to wait two more weeks. How about we just jump into it?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, man, I'm ready to play. Man, I don't want these guys having more time off, because they are in rhythm right now.

Speaker 6:

And everybody's in the same boat. That's. The only problem I have is the layoff in between rounds. But man, let's go, you ready, let's do it, let's ride.

Speaker 9:

From the moment we pulled up on the buses, our Bevo walk, you could feel the energy. The crowd was tremendous. It was great atmosphere. I think college football got this one right. As much as we critique some of the things that are happening in our game right now this idea of a home playoff game with this 12-team format this was pretty special and one that we were humbled and honored to be part of here at DKR. So I hope everybody enjoyed that, because we surely did.

Speaker 6:

Stevie Lee, the field started at 12. First year to have the expanded playoff, or CFP. That is from 4 to 12. How it goes is the top four seeds. According to the CFP committee, it's only going to get better. The first four seeds get the first round by, but that allows eight teams, four of which to host, and Texas was one of them the only warm weather climate on campus to host and I'm going to give it to UT. They knocked it out of the park. As far as the entertainment value and the drone shows were awesome, I'm going to. I'm delayed by 48 hours. Go to. Well, I'll have those up on the stories inside the man Cave social media pages later today or probably at the end of this podcast. But I have to say, man, postseason football just feels different. I know you weren't able to go because you were with family and you had some activities, but could you tell it was different when you were watching? Absolutely.

Speaker 3:

In fact, when I was watching it and it was about to come on, tnt did a great job of broadcasting the game Different angles that you can hardly see on TV. They were all over the place, man, and I loved it, but I felt the energy. I was like dang it, I wish I was there, I was looking at my watch.

Speaker 3:

I was like I can still make it. So I was just down in San Antonio, but it was a lot of fun to watch on TV. You can tell that the electricity came through the TV. I was at the Thompson Hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio and everybody in the bar at the hotel was watching the game and was Texas fans. It was a lot of fun, man.

Speaker 6:

In Clemson. I got to give a shout out to every Clemson fan. Everyone I met phenomenal. And you know, obviously there was a good portion of people in Austin from Westlake who was supporting Cade Klubnick and we're going to talk about him, of course, coming up. Every one of them complimentary. They've had a lot of success in recent history under Dabo Sweeney. But, man, this is such a beautiful sight and you've got to see I want to say bonus football on an on-campus facility.

Speaker 6:

And before we get going, stevie, I want to encourage everybody, like, follow each of our social media uh platforms and share the content. Go ahead and like stevie on instagram uh twitter, if you can bring it back, and our facebook page. Share the content, tell everybody about it. And the best part, because I know everyone's getting a little tight right now, including myself, because it's christmas season you know it's free to subscribe to our YouTube page. All right, here we go. Texas eliminated Clemson, winning 38-24. They advance now to the Elite Eight of college football. I want to pull up some storylines that I think are the major points that we can all take away from that 38-24 game. First off, clemson was dominated in the first half and they made it a game, stevie, they really did, and it got a little uncomfortable.

Speaker 3:

They did. I think we were supposed to be all gas on the break. Sometimes we take our foot off the gas a little bit and a little bit too early. So they tried to come back but defense stepped up and stopped them.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, the defense looked good, great in that first half. But you know, and Quinn yours. I do want to talk about him in a little bit more detail later. He did a great job. He did a great job, receivers did great, but they dropped passes. The running game is back First time. Two Longhorn running backs rushed for 100-plus yards in a postseason game. And obviously Quinn Ewers, the only quarterback in UT history to lead to the CFP in back-to-back seasons. And how about Gunnar Hell? The guy just is a baller. He steps up, stevie.

Speaker 3:

That route he ran straight down the middle for an overhead catch in the end zone. That was pretty man, that was really pretty.

Speaker 6:

I think he's earned himself a lot of money coming up in this NFL draft.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he at the right time.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, he's phenomenal and it seems like Texas has done a really good job, dating back to even John McEvick, then your years with Matt Brown, of having that special tight end, and this tight end is perfect for Sark's offense. How about the Longhorn defense Picked up the 20th interception of the season. They sat Cade Klubnick three times and seven tackles for loss. But, stevie, you talked about the defense already, but I think what I really loved was that goal line stand. We saw one at Texas A&M which pretty much sealed up the game. But you know our guy stories inside the man cave VIP alum Craig Way, that epic call that he made. He's made a ton of epic calls and in a way that he only can do it. Here's the goal line stand which, let's just say that sealed up the game for Texas. And Craig Way, the energy, unmatched.

Speaker 8:

Clemson fourth and goal at the Texas one-yard line Hands it off. He'll not get there. The Longhorns stop again. Bill Norton plugs the gap. The defensive stand of the year was a few weeks ago in College Station. It's been upgraded. The defensive stop of the year is tonight in Austin, Texas.

Speaker 6:

Beautiful Craig Wade man. He still sounds like he's in his early 20s.

Speaker 3:

And that's a compliment. Yeah, he's a jewel around Texas football man. He has some great calls out there for over the years.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, yeah, you talk about Bill Norton, because I know we talked about it before the season you had to replace, let's see, tavondre Sweat and our guy who went to the Seattle Seahawks drafted Byron Murphy. Byron Murphy, his 51-year-old brain has caught up with me, it's all good the CRS can't remember shit. Hey, I got to give copyright to Stevie Lee's your dad or uncle.

Speaker 3:

Uncle, my uncle.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, he said that. So Stevie's uncle man shout out to you that applies to me. I'll purchase you a beverage at a later date. But Bill Norton, a transfer from Arizona. I mean, come on, what do you grade this D-line this year with him?

Speaker 3:

Dude. The D-line across the front man has been phenomenal this year. I like the way we rotate in and out too. We trust the ones just as much as we trust the twos. There's no real big fall off at all whenever the twos come in. That's what you want in a team, especially this long season. What is it going to be? 17 games or something like that?

Speaker 9:

You make it all the way through.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so you need depth, and so all these guys can play football on the line. That's good.

Speaker 6:

Arguably number one defense in the country, and so the key to this game mean we got to respect k club nick I think he earns himself some money this year um, the guy's passionate great family, a family of aggies, and he led uh westlake to a couple of state championships. Just a good human being and you know, left Austin to go to Clemson and he's a threat with his feet. He is very strong, accurate passer and he just he has a way of floating that ball up for his receivers run underneath it. Well, it's hard to do that, and especially when you see what Texas got to him and and sacked him a few on Saturday.

Speaker 8:

For Clemson from the Tiger 25. Shotgun snap Plumdick under pressure, he's sacked. Barron Sorrell got it Under pressure and he's going to go down. Ethan Burke, cade's old teammate, His Chaparral teammate.

Speaker 6:

I mean he has quite a few. And shout out to Michael Taff Walk on to All-American.

Speaker 3:

To All-American. That's good. That goes to show you kids just keep working. You got a dream. Just keep working. Keep working, it'll all come around for you. That's what he did. Honest to God, truth, yeah, you're going from a walk on to an All-American in college football. You're going to probably play at the next level, more than likely going to play at the next level. All you got to do is just keep working, keep your head down and work.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, that's exactly right. We're going to talk more about Cade shortly, but we kind of want to go in succession of how this game played out. Baron Sorrell, let us in on a little bit of the mentality of this defense. That young man had a great game number 88 for Texas. They really got, they bought into the game plan of Pete Kwiatkowski, the defensive coordinator, and Sorrell just said you know, man, it's like a Friday night fiesta when they go out and play.

Speaker 4:

It definitely goes just to our culture. I mean, we know what matters. So at the end of the day, we're going to go out there and have fun, and especially on defense, we call it we're throwing a party. We're throwing a party every Saturday, and that's what we went out there and did today, and that's what we're going to do next week. But I mean, it all starts off with fun. The stakes are obviously getting higher, but we all picked up the football for a reason. I'm just happy that we all continue to get to play.

Speaker 7:

To answer, to follow what they talked about okay, sorry to cut that off.

Speaker 6:

That's our guy. Uh, taff. Uh, no disrespect to michael taff, but, uh, when you hear baron sorrell talk like that and you played on some great defensive lines um, how do you relate to your defensive line that you played under matt brown the early 2000s, and is your defensive line better or this one?

Speaker 3:

I don't know if the defensive line is better. All I'm going to say is I think that our era of football is better. That's all I'm going to say about that. Wow, we were good back then. Yeah, we were good back then. But these guys are also really good too. So I'm not going to go in that game because then I'm I'm gonna get canceled, you know. But these guys play together, dude, I love the way they play. Like I said earlier that that they're, they're good one, the ones and the twos across the board, they they have a cohesively, cohesive, cohesive relationship. I also think what he's talking about is what we had back then. We would say party at the ball, gang tackling, party at the football. When the ball is snapped, everybody is pursuing the football Ball is key. I think they have that mentality right now. They talk about that. They want to go out there and have fun, and that's exactly what they're doing. It looks fun when they're out there playing together.

Speaker 6:

I mean they did Especially in that first half and then, late in the game against Clemson, they had to buckle down and make some stops because Clemson was coming back. Tell you, what really helps a defense is when you can do what Jaden Blue and Trey Wisner, Quint Trivion, did against Clemson they got the running game back 256 yards rushing and four touchdowns. And this, if you didn't see it, this is what Trey Wisner just I love how he waits so patiently and he hits the whole hall.

Speaker 8:

Get three now as Golden shifts in motion from right to left, but the handoff's to the right side Wisner, forget about it. Touchdown Texas. When Trey V Wisner started right and then Trey cut it back into the middle, nobody close to him 16 yards.

Speaker 6:

Jake Majors dancing the Quintrivion dance Love it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, having a good time out there, having fun that's what you want to do with all your teammates, man, and when you're doing that, something's going right, so hats off to them. I love the dancing in the end zone. I love that the NCAA has lax rules and let these guys actually celebrate their work.

Speaker 6:

The NCAA was archaic and they were about 10 to 20 years behind on everything.

Speaker 3:

I had some dances I could have done.

Speaker 6:

Can you show us right now?

Speaker 3:

You don't want to see it, I can crash out.

Speaker 6:

I hope you have pants on.

Speaker 3:

That's why I didn't stand up.

Speaker 6:

Now Jaden Blue. I'm going to be honest with you, he kind of resembled Jamal Charles that other night. His speed is next level and he's had some issues this year, um, with fumbling, but he's an asset to this team and for I'm going to say this to anybody watching or listening that you know, fumbling sometimes is the individual, sometimes it's how you carry the ball, and some of it's just bad luck. But the guy has had to overcome the mental part of not playing with fear of fumbling and he just went off. I mean he had a good portion of that 256 yards rushing and he had two touchdowns. And this was Blue and Sark talking about that night. I mean, it's just talking about perseverance.

Speaker 4:

You know, after everything I've been going through, but you know, it's all God. You know, I stayed patient and you know, luckily I saw a crease and it was. You know, it was just everything from there.

Speaker 9:

Gave him a big hug and just tell him how proud I was of him. You know, as I touched on the team adversity coming out of Atlanta and we talked about individual adversity last night as well and to think about that young man you know, fighting through the ankle injury earlier in the season having some fumble issues.

Speaker 6:

What was your thoughts? I mean the fact that Sart didn't give up on him. I mean they're already down two running backs. What does that tell you about Jaden Blue?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, his perseverance and I love his interview, it's all God. And just waiting, waiting his turn. And you know what we said about Taff earlier just keep working and it'll all come back to you. This kid went in there. He knew that he was probably two or three, maybe even four, on the depth chart when training camp came around, but he kept working. And look at him now running for over 100 yards well, over 100 yards in a college football playoff game. Now, if that's not a comeback story, I don't know what is. Because, like I said, he had two running backs, maybe three, in front of him, and now he's here. You know. So if you're, if you're a kid out there listening to me, just keep working and keep working hard, you know, uh, and it'll all come back to you for sure and it's.

Speaker 6:

It tells you about the depth of that's on at these skill positions too. It's freaking unreal. Um so kate klubnick, the product of austin texas. It was a homecoming, but it was a business trip for he and clemson. What were your thoughts of what he did for Clemson in that second half?

Speaker 3:

I think Clemson's going to be good for a long time. I think he's a. Was he sophomore or freshman?

Speaker 6:

I think he's a junior.

Speaker 3:

Or junior.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, hey, look who's calling Our guy Norm.

Speaker 3:

Norman Watkins with that smile.

Speaker 6:

Best teeth in Travis County.

Speaker 3:

No question, no question. So his arm looks really good, man. He put the ball on a dime on a couple of our DBs, man, and tested our DBs, so they moved the ball a little bit on us. I gave my defense a little bit of grace because this was a college football playoff game. Clemson is a good team to make the college football playoffs. There's 107 other teams out there that wish they were in Clemson's shoes. So give us a little grace for Clemson trying to come back. This is a playoff game, this is playoff football. But the defense came back out, stepped back up, stopped him. But Kupnik, he's the real deal, I believe, man, the way he throws, the way he stands tall in the pocket and putting the ball on the dime for his receivers is good.

Speaker 6:

He's good, I mean his number, stevie 336 yards passing, three touchdowns, one interception. I mean he out-dueled Quinn, to be honest with you.

Speaker 3:

And with a smaller and not as good offensive line, right yeah. So Clemson, I think, is a couple of players away, a couple of portal players away from actually making a big run next year, and look out for Klubnick for sure.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, he did well, I mean it's. But Dabo, dabo, sweeney, after the game, what you're about to see is Dabo and Cade talk about. Obviously it's hard to talk after because your season's over with, but Dabo was asked first and foremost about Cade and that offense, putting up those big numbers against the nation's number one defense, and and he didn't hold back.

Speaker 1:

I mean there are many people that's got many yards on that group. Uh, yeah, they're really good and and again we missed a few opportunities and obviously punch it in right there on fourth and one and we think we had it if we stay outside and kind of cut in. But that kid that kid is, he's one of the guys that spoke up in there and just talked about you know what he said. He said this is the most fun he's ever had playing football.

Speaker 7:

You know it was fun to be home, but I wish you know we would have won. That's what I came here to do. It wasn't a vacation. You know, it wasn't really time to come home. It was time to come win a football game, and we didn't do that, so that really sucked.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, losing sucks and I can't even it does.

Speaker 6:

There's nothing fun about losing, but this leads me to this. So Texas advances, clemson ends their year, I think, at 10-4. Quinn Ewers enough of the criticism. The guy performed and O-line did well, and Jake Majors was hurt on a blindside block. There were a couple other injuries, but I'm pretty sure, from what I've heard, they're going to have all the guys back, I think, maybe ready for two weeks for the next game. Cam Williams was injured, but the term used, I think, by Sark was they could have gone back in, including Trey Wisner. But here's something I've heard the last two weeks. And then Sunday I saw it on a tweet two weeks. And then Sunday I saw it on a tweet there's people saying these are older former Longhorns, older than you, which have told me that Quinn Ewers will enter the portal and go to Oregon. That's, I mean speculation. There's no facts behind it. That's, I mean speculation. There's no facts behind it. But I've heard it enough in the last week and a half to start man maybe there's smoke to this.

Speaker 3:

Honestly, man, if I was Quinn and his family, I would do something like that. I would hit the portal. I don't think he's ready for the NFL, but he can be more ready. With one more year under his belt and he has another year I think he feels that he's not going to be the guy next year. He may have had that conversation with Sark already. So why not? Why not go and get one more year that you can get and get, uh, more nfl ready? Your draft stock, uh may be down here, but next year you can catapult it to up here. You know what I mean. So, uh, and also it will show nfl scouts that you can learn one playbook and then just one, just like that, and get into another playbook, you know.

Speaker 6:

Well and I want you to play off of this, I think the Longhorn fan base, those of which who have been overly critical of Quinn the guy he needs to be praised as one of the greats to have ever played One of the greats. He's executed the offense. I'm not saying he's up there with Vince and Colt, but Quinn's done a great job.

Speaker 3:

Okay, yeah, yeah. When you lead a team to the college football playoffs twice, basically last year as a sophomore, this year as a junior you're right, he has some talent under his belt. He should be up there. I don't know if I put him on top of it. I don't put him on top of Vince, I don't put him on top of Colt McCoy, but he can sit right there with Major Applewhite, chris Sims, what's his name? Shane Rochelle Rochelle. Yeah, he can sit with those guys. Man, we had some success with Shane. Yeah, man, I didn't think of Shane. So yeah, man, I didn't think of it that way. But yeah, he has submitted some notoriety at the University of Texas. He's won a championship. He won a championship.

Speaker 6:

yeah, he's two wins away from playing for a national championship.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, he was what Two overtimes. We went in Atlanta for an SEC championship, right. So the kid can ball, he can. It's just sometimes people see the eye test and just kind of wonder what's going on. But he puts up the numbers for sure.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, so now Quinn and the Longhorns are now in the Elite Eights. So we're going to see the succession of this, how the little bracket works now. This kind of explains it. We'll start with the field of 12, and then we get a little dissolved to the current status. All right, here we go. So Texas will play Arizona State in this Peach Bowl, and I need to confirm this. But I think now UT football is the only program in America to have played in all major bowl games.

Speaker 3:

Oh, wow. I think, Okay, okay, but that sounds good, it sounds real good.

Speaker 6:

Here's the kicker here Texas goes back to Atlanta, where Bevo will not be allowed because there's just not enough space. There's not enough space there, really isn't. It's a very narrow area at Mercedes-Benz. It's not like the Superdome where it's so spacious in that, back in those end zones, yeah right.

Speaker 6:

So Arizona State Big 12 champion, one of the first, you know four first-round buys. So if Texas wins in Atlanta, they'll advance to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington for a Final Four game and they'll play the winner of Ohio State, oregon. So the Cotton Bowl and the Orange Bowl are the Final Four, that's the semifinals where they'll be playing.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's a lot of fun, I think. What are you asking me right now? You want me to give you a prediction, or something like that.

Speaker 6:

No, I'm just trying to go through this All right because.

Speaker 3:

I was talking to some friends and I really want to go to this Cotton Bowl game. I really want to go. So we'll see about that man. But this is a lot of fun, man, right now, dude, some good football teams are still left and it's going to be a lot of fun. Let me go off a little bit. Let me go off script a little bit.

Speaker 6:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

There's no script. Okay, I kind of feel for the away teams that played the first round. They really didn't get a bowl experience Right.

Speaker 6:

Yep, oh, I got you.

Speaker 3:

You know what I'm saying Because when you go to these bowls you go in a week in advance, yep, right, you practice on site, you do all the bowl appearances and talks and luncheons and things like that. That's the whole experience of being in a bowl. I really think something needs to be reworked. These guys, the on-campus games, the losing team, should still go to a bowl, because remember the Shreveport Bowl and the Independence Bowl? They had to go and find somebody to take that bowl spot, right? Yeah, one of these playoffs teams can take one of those bowl spots. I think the home playoff game it's not a bowl. It's not a bowl for them, because they come in the day of the game or the day before the game just like a regular, you know.

Speaker 6:

They may have arrived two days prior.

Speaker 1:

Yeah but see, at a bowl game, our rule when we were there is a whole week.

Speaker 3:

You got to be in your hotel a week before the kickoff time. So if the kickoff was Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve at 7 pm a week before that, we had to be in the hotel reporting in at 7 pm. So and that was our whole experience and we got our gifts, our bowl gifts, I love.

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Like we played in the Sony Bowl, Sony PlayStation Bowl maybe, but they gave us Sony cam quarters Like we. You know, all those sponsors give out Right, right, yes, the players, and I don't I'm not sure if Clemson got that so they kind of got cheated out of their bowl experience, you know.

Speaker 6:

Gotcha.

Speaker 3:

So that's just me going off script that I want to. I want to get to the bottom of that you know.

Speaker 6:

No, that's fair. That that I want to get to the bottom of that, no, that's fair. That's a good, good question to ask. In fact, as a media member, I've had several great bowl gifts myself. They give media bowl gifts. I think my favorite was from the Fiesta Bowl, twice covering Oklahoma, because they went to it a lot. Yeah, the Texas Bowl gave us gift cards to Academy.

Speaker 3:

Really, there you go, yeah, so it sucks that Clemson wouldn't have that experience going to a bowl, receiving bowl gifts and going to luncheons and things like that.

Speaker 6:

Right, that's a valid point, stevie, you know, I think it will improve. They may add teams, which leads me to this. So when you look at Ohio State-Penn State, you look at Texas-Clems and the other two games as well Penn State and SMU, and then Notre Dame, indiana. The average margin of victory by the home team, the teams who won, 19 points. So these were not close, but I need to say this, though when the CFP was just four, more often than not people forget more often than not the semifinals were blowouts.

Speaker 3:

Except our game against Washington.

Speaker 6:

Right, but that was a rarity, in my opinion. Yeah, now I got you.

Speaker 2:

I hear you.

Speaker 6:

Does this even bother you? Do you even worry about this?

Speaker 3:

I don't worry about it. I think that the seeding meaning the seeding, they got the seeding right. Right, so all the home games earned the home game right.

Speaker 6:

I have to stop you. Not stop you, but interject. I think the seeding is fine to an extent. I think you can't just give somebody a first-round bye because they won a conference.

Speaker 3:

But you've got to get them in because they won a conference, right.

Speaker 6:

Give the top four overall a bye, top four overall a buy, not because they're a champion of a conference that is some of the highest rated conference champion.

Speaker 8:

Let them in.

Speaker 6:

of course, Let all five conference champions in.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 6:

And let there be seven at large, okay.

Speaker 3:

Okay, no, I get that. I get it. Yeah, but they're doing something right. I think that they're. I think that, well, when it comes to the home teams this past week, I think they got that right. Right, yeah, okay, but I do understand what you're saying. No question, yeah.

Speaker 6:

So Texas will face Arizona State. I think the last time Texas played Arizona State was in the Holiday Bowl in 07, I think, and so they're playing the quarterfinals. So it's Arizona State Texas going all the way to Atlanta. Back to Atlanta for Texas. And already one storyline they interviewed Zach Swanson, a former Texas defensive lineman from Arizona, and he wasn't afraid. He was not asked to come back, and I can't wait to get your take on this, because this is. I just can't wait to hear Stevie's take on this, because this happens more frequently than people realize.

Speaker 5:

That's a team who kicked me out and said I was never going to be good enough to play there, so that's something that has been on my agenda for a while. It's like a dream scenario, so I'm very excited about that. Exactly what was said is if you want to stay at Texas, you might as well quit football and just go to school here. So a lot of motivation there for me.

Speaker 6:

So what do you think Is he being fair about it? What do you think Is he being fair about it? I think it's you. Find your destiny because it's worked out for him. He's back home, he's in the CFP, he helped the program become great. Yeah, at the end of every season, you have these interviews with your coaches on what you need to do, where they expect you if you're going to be a starter. How's it go?

Speaker 3:

I've never had those conversations with my coach, but I mean dang, I don't want to bad talk any kid out there, you know. But and this is a fine line I'm going to I love the players, right, but you know, I mean he looks 46 years old, right. So I mean, coach, saw something that you know he's probably not going to play here. He may have done this kid a favor.

Speaker 3:

You know what I'm saying that's exactly what I'm trying to hold on yeah exactly so are you going to ride the pine here or are you going to go somewhere else and actually get on the field? You know so, you know, and you know he may have put a little sauce on the story as well. You know he's pumping himself up. You got to find your bulletin board material wherever you can find it right, and so he's giving it. You know he's pumped up. He's going to do his best out there to beat the team that slighted him. You know what I mean. So, yeah, I mean, but he's also in his upper 40s, you know, you know so he has more hair than I do.

Speaker 6:

Let's say that. You know, stevie, you're looking dapper. My friend, caption this for us Of yours, you or yours truly, that would be me.

Speaker 3:

You.

Speaker 6:

This is over the weekend.

Speaker 3:

This is over the weekend. This is where I was right after the football game. I was in my hotel getting dressed while watching the last quarter, the end of the last quarter of the UT game. So I had to figure out how to do my bow tie.

Speaker 4:

So I figured it out.

Speaker 3:

I don't know, man. I don't know how to capture that, because I know what was going on in that moment. My back was against the dance floor and I was talking to my brother-in-law that was across the table from me and my wife just jumped up from the table and started dancing on the dance floor. When I say it's life of the party, it's my wife dancing on the dance floor by herself with her drink in her hand. Someone else on Instagram sent me a text and said and she didn't spill a drop.

Speaker 8:

That's all.

Speaker 3:

That's all. Yeah, she's the only one on the dance floor with a drink and she didn't spill a drop.

Speaker 6:

I think a captain should read Check out my wife.

Speaker 3:

No question, she was hot that night, man, I promise you she was.

Speaker 6:

Oh, by the way, your Christmas part, your Christmas card, just got it today. Beautiful family, by the way.

Speaker 3:

I appreciate it, man. I really do appreciate that. My wife, who we've been married for going on 19 years, makes me look good. My baby girl, who just turned 15, makes me look good. My baby girl who just turned 15 makes me look good. My daughter, who turns 18 tomorrow, makes me look good. Man, I'm really blessed to have these women in my life, really blessed to have smiling faces to wake up to every morning. Man, it's so fun. I don't know what I did to deserve this, because I'm having a really, really good time with them. And you know, I only have a few more months with my oldest. She's going to go off to college, but I'm taking every day, one day at a time, because we're having a really good time right now.

Speaker 6:

And it's. It shows that's the way you guys. I'm so happy for y'all Very blessed. Are you familiar with Pinkerton's Barbecue in Houston?

Speaker 3:

I'm not.

Speaker 6:

I haven't been. They do sell it over there by the Longhorn City Limit stage, by LBJ Library Lawn on game days.

Speaker 6:

He has really done a fabulous job building his brand. You know there's a lot of great barbecue options in Texas, especially here in Austin, but don't slight. Houston, dallas, san Antonio, east Texas they have some great barbecue, but Pinkerton's phenomenal. But his little daughter man. But his little daughter man dressed to a T and showing the world that she truly bleeds burnt orange. And, fyi, I did have permission from Grant to run this video. By the way, check out his young little daughter who I guarantee you is going to be daddy and daughter attending the Moore Longhorn football game.

Speaker 9:

And.

Speaker 6:

I tell you baby, you are the joy of my life, two years old.

Speaker 3:

Amazing, that's awesome, that's awesome. Man, I remember those days, dude. It's hectic, but it's a lot of fun. You sometimes I look around and I wish I can go back to those days, because those, those are a lot of fun. I actually used that song on a video with my youngest daughter on one of my instagram reels and, uh, it almost got me bro, so me bro.

Speaker 6:

I get it. I get it. No, it's dad-daughter bonds Very special, no doubt. Maybe we need to try to generate, come up with some partnership with Grant and the amazingness that is Pinkerton's Barbecue.

Speaker 3:

Man pay me in ribs, I'm good.

Speaker 6:

Pay me in bone marrow, I'll do it. Hey, real quick. We got a new partnership with a former Longhorn, billy Dale, who played for Daryl K Royal Texas Legacy Support Network. It's basically he raises money through telling the stories of Longhorns to help Longhorns in need, such as individuals who are struggling financially, who are former Longhorn athletes, helping them health issues, anything related. He's doing a great job and he's doing this and he's retired, and so any podcast that is on Stories Inside the man Cave that is telling a story, or a guest who is a longhorn telling their story. And we're going to do one strictly on you, stevie, it won't be the pass rush, but you and I are going to do one and tell some stories.

Speaker 3:

Let's do it On.

Speaker 6:

Billy Dale's Texas Legacy Support Network. Follow his Facebook page. They're doing amazing things over there and he's grown, he has quite a following. Hey, quick break for a quick segment two. Coming up in segment two hey, the Cowboys win when they had no pressure on them whatsoever. They're not going to the postseason and I don't even know why we're talking about it, but the Cowboys did win and we're going to celebrate. We're going to talk a little Christmas, but that's not before we've got to celebrate. We're going to talk a little Christmas, but that's not before we've got to give a shout out to our family, the Hargrove family. We'll see you another side of this break.

Speaker 2:

Here at Hargrove Roofing we try to think outside the box, to kind of get the creative juices flowing. So I brought in my friend Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns. He's going to help the team strategize, really motivate them. Light a fire.

Speaker 3:

This guy's going to block down. This guy's going to block down. You put your butt into the guard and that way my Mike linebacker gets free to do what.

Speaker 2:

Not only are they going to learn a thing or two, but they're going to also leave with a great attitude and a bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 6:

I'm sorry what does this have to do with roofing exactly?

Speaker 3:

Get out Right now.

Speaker 2:

I said get out For me. That's what it's all about. It's just having fun making our employees have a great time. Hargrove Roofing.

Speaker 6:

Know who's on your roof. Alright, this will be a quick segment. See if we can do it in 10 seconds. Hey, the Cowboys may have damaged Baker Mayfield in the Tampa Bay Bucs season. Cowboys beat them. They look good, but they did it after they were officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Speaker 3:

But they eliminated somebody else, so happy for them.

Speaker 6:

Much respect to Baker Mayfield. He's a good NFL quarterback. Hey, a state championship was brought back to Austin. I know we fell the whole journey. Let's give a shout out to those Vipers. System Overload that's real nice, clark. Shout out to Drew Sanders. Been a friend of mine since I was in the KVU days covered them. They've always been solid, but they kept slowly, slowly getting there. A couple years ago they played in the state championship. I believe they lost first round last year, but that program has. It's just been consistent, yeah. So shout out to vandergrift. They're technically they say austin vandergrift. Call them leander they, because they're part of leander isd. Yeah, but they're in the austinits Amazing program. And Westlake found out what North Crowley was all about. There's so much speed and North Crowley came out of nowhere. But that's the beauty of Texas high school football. Some will say recruiting. But there is a house bill in place. It will allow a student or an athlete or student to transfer in Texas for athletic purposes once, oh wow.

Speaker 6:

That's like a high school transfer portal. It is a transfer portal. Hey, you'll like this. Stevie Tick-tocking the man cave. It was pulled up. I found it. It was when Oklahoma played at LSU and I think we all know the people like Stevie who's from the northern part of Louisiana. Man, those folks in Louisiana, man, it doesn't matter the age or wherever you're from, man, you just they know how to get down with it, shake their groceries. Just have a good time. Watch this oh.

Speaker 1:

You have to play an instrument, so everyone's musical. When it comes on, we're moving, man, I love it. I love that Louisiana state of mind and its state of mind. I love it. That's what I always say, that lady.

Speaker 6:

She had some rhythm. Now. She did, she did and she got those fluid hips moving Mm-hmm and she hey, she's going to live a long time.

Speaker 3:

Listen, I'm telling you, in Louisiana, white people are built different.

Speaker 6:

Speaker 3:

Man, something good is in about two hours, papa Lee and Mama Lee's be walking through my front door with my little brother, my little sister I'm sorry my older sister and my niece and my kids, my wife and my niece's son, uh, and my mom and dad again. So this right now is I'm feeling really good about this because I'm gonna have all my siblings and all their kids, yeah, with me in my house tonight, so that I'm having a really really good time. My wife is in there prepping the house. I'm having a really really good time. My wife is in there prepping the house. I'm in here on this with the people.

Speaker 3:

But something good man is, man, enjoy the family that you got. Man, because this is our first time all together, really, yeah, so we'll get together, and sometimes my brother is not there, we'll get together, and then my sister may not be there. We'll get together, and maybe my nephew is not there. Oh, that's beautiful man. We are all here together this weekend or this for today, tomorrow, and then get up on the day after Christmas and they're going to go home, but we got three days together. It's going to be interesting in my house. Everybody's staying here too. It's going to be very interesting.

Speaker 6:

Yeah. I love that for you guys. I really do.

Speaker 4:

Speaker 6:

I remember those days and this is not a whoa poor, pitiful me, but I had some great memories of family in Houston. All of us, god, we were sleeping all over the place eating oysters, throwing the football, tackle football, Just oh, my God place, eating oysters, throwing the football, tackle football, just oh my god, the cocktails flowing at a, those, those awesome great uncles.

Speaker 6:

They were truly great. They would feed us some little cocktails where our moms weren't watching. Great food, great memories. I was very lucky man and I I know I was adopted man, but I, I was very lucky. I had a great know I was adopted man, but I was very lucky I had a great family, those who are still living.

Speaker 6:

I know it's hard to get together, but I have those memories that lasted me a lifetime. And for those of you who this time of year and even Thanksgiving, it's tough Like this is me my second Christmas without my mother. I'm not sad. I'm not sad, yeah, because man again, I have a ton of great memories because that woman busted her ass to provide for me for all my entire life. But I will say one more thing that's good. But I will say one more thing that's good. I like the feeling out there, getting out and about with these lights and people shopping. There isn't as much stress this year for some reason. I think people are just. They had enough of stress. But just remember, give somebody a hug, shake their hand, tell them happy holidays, merry Christmas, and say, man, you're doing great.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 6:

Let people know you care.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 6:

That's what we got to do.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely, man. This is a great time of the year.

Speaker 6:

Be mindful of each other, man, and just a good, happy holidays or Merry Christmas to someone that may brighten up their entire day yes, and be grateful for who's in your life, whether it be a significant other, I mean, I've got somebody in my life that brings a lot of smiles. And for the great city of Shreveport, louisiana, the birthplace, the hometown of the Stevie Lee and the Hargrove family of Hargrove Roofing, and to my college alma mater town in Nacogdoches, texas, the paradise in the pines, and to my hometown, austin, texas, and to Stevie's family and all of you watching, happy holidays, merry Christmas.
