Why why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why why.

Speaker 2:

Why Luca Donchus? Thank God he's still with us on Earth, but mourning the loss of the face of the franchise Young 26, injury prone, perhaps A lot of rumors, health, his contract, everything. We're going to dive deep into this because it has not been a good two or three weeks for DFW sports fans and this Luka Doncic deal. Hey, I'm back. Life, things have happened. It's inevitable. And, of course, honest Plumbing and Air where a handshake still means something, and that does truly mean something, it's prices. So, coming up on let's Talk About DFW, sports fans have seen better days and we're going to figure out why this Luka Doncic deal, the trade I mean it literally forced me off of my seat late Saturday, as did to a lot of people. This installment of let's Talk About it is dedicated to all of you in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Luka Doncic and why. The Mavericks and Cowboy fans may be okay, let's talk.

Speaker 1:

A 25-year-old superstar, Luka Doncic, in his prime traded for Anthony Davis, a 31-year-old, aging superstar who's injury-prone. It doesn't make sense.

Speaker 2:

No, it doesn't. It doesn't make any sense from the outside. Looking in, you know, in life it's a great lesson. In life, things just don't make sense. Most of the time when decisions are made, or something that you really thought was going well and served your life right, all of a sudden you had the rug pulled out from under you. Trust me, it sucks. We all have been there. But in this world of professional sports we've seen a lot. We've seen it's a lot. It's a big shock factor. Thank you for watching. Let's Talk About it In another episode of Stories Inside the man Cave podcast.

Speaker 2:

I am Sean Clinch, your episode of Stories Inside the man Cave podcast. I am Sean Klitsch, your host of Stories Inside the man Cave, and shoot me a follow on Twitter. Slash X at SeanC. Underscore ATX Is the lucidantious trade to the Lakers, the most shocking in NBA history.

Speaker 2:

I had to do a little research because I do recall some significant trades from the late 80s, 90s and, of course, my time in the media, and the most shocking one to me that didn't involve a trade was Kevin Durant. On the morning of my birthday, I became a Thunder fan since the inception. Wow, when he decided to go to the Golden State Warriors who just knocked out the Thunder After the Thunder led 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals. I digress. Here's the ones that really are seismic the Bucs trading Kareem to the Lakers in 1975. Charles Barkley from Philly to Phoenix in 92.

Speaker 2:

Now this one's kind of debatable. Spurs trading Rodman to the Bulls in 95. Greg Popovich they did not. He wanted to get Rodman out of there and the Bulls utilized Rodman to win championships. And of course, the Lakers trading Shaq to the Heat. The Heat involved in two blockbuster trades. Lebron James to the Heat in 10.

Speaker 2:

I don't know what do you think? Hit me up at Sean C, underscore ATX. I really no, I don't know. So that leads to the question why would Dallas give up Donchett's to LA For Anthony Davis, which is the premier piece of the trade? Both are injury prone. Luca, five years younger, 26. Anthony Davis, 31 years old.

Speaker 2:

Dunctions has been criticized for the amount of injuries and not being in shape. Well, if you dig deeper into it, the Mavericks have had an overhaul of their strength and conditioning staff, I believe, over the last three years. But for Luka think about it there's not many players like him who play through injuries. He's a throwback guy. He has played through a ton of injuries and he led Dallas to the NBA Finals last year Beloved. So if you look at the deal, the Mavs received Anthony Davis, max Christie and a first-round draft pick in the 2029 draft. It's not going to help in the short term. Meanwhile, the Lakers received onchance, maxi Kleber, marquise Morris, and then there's a third team involved, the Utah Jazz. Well, they get Jalen Hood, shefino and a second-round draft pick from both the Mavs and Lakers.

Speaker 2:

Well, here's the main reason why all this went down. Here's the main reason why all this went down. If you're a GM for a franchise, leave Mark Cuban out of this. He's no longer a majority owner, he's a minority owner. The super max contract Luca would have been eligible for next year.

Speaker 2:

From a business sense, you're weighing all the injuries and you're looking at your salary cap. Do you want to pay the luxury tax? Is Luka worth the super max contract? Yes, he is, because he's still averaging triple doubles through injuries. Doesn't play a lot of defense, that's well known. If Dallas kept Luka, they would have had to extend him for five years on the Supermax contract for $345 million. Now that they cut that, traded him for some assets too, gave away a few. The Lakers only have to pay him now, next year if they keep him. Max Concha, five years, $229 million. That's a $116 million difference. Lakers got a bargain, lakers got a bargain. So when you really look at this whole deal, I think the Mavericks are going to obviously be in a better position to move up in the Western Conference standings. The LA Lakers are going to benefit.

Speaker 1:

What's up? Lakers fans, I'm in LA, excited to meet y'all.

Speaker 2:

And Luka is already in LA. That was him getting on the airplane. He's there, I get it. Mavs fans, you should be pissed off, I get it. Get it. Fans, you should be pissed off, I get it, get it. But this is all about business. If he was healthy, it may have made a difference. But let's be honest with ourselves. It sucks being a fan, invested fan when these things happen. But when the Mavericks, the front office, looked ahead of what they may have to pay for their roster salary cap in 2026 and on this makes sense, it sucks, I get it. But from a business point of view, I think the Lakers and the Mavericks are in a better position financially speaking. So life goes on. We put the Luka trade to LA to rest. I know it's not as easy as that, but DFW fans, I feel for you. I'm a Cowboys fan but I'm in year three of not being emotionally invested anymore.

Speaker 2:

I want to get your thoughts on the Schottenheimer era and let's talk about a few novelty Super Bowl prop bets coming up this weekend for Super Bowl 59. See you on the other side of this break. The Saxton name resonates in Austin. Jim's late father, james Saxton, is a Longhorn legend, a Heisman finalist while playing for Darryl K Royal, and Jimmy is a UT football legacy from Westlake. He has been insuring Austin for decades. He and his staff will give you old school hospitality when servicing your insurance needs. The Bully is a cozy Austin original bar and grill that feels like home. Boulevard Bar and Grill, nestled into this Northwest Hills strip mall, recently celebrated two decades. The drink prices are like going back to 2004. It's where familiar faces gather and everyone knows your name. The Bully family are also friends of the stories inside the man Cave podcast. Boulevard Bar and Grill on Far West Boulevard in Northwest Austin.

Speaker 2:

We're going to win and we're going to win the championship. Otherwise, why are we doing it? Valid point the schottenheimer era has begun. I don't have much to say about it, but I'm over it. Life goes on. We can criticize jerry jones till we're blue in the face, until the sun comes up the next day, nothing's going to change. The young Schottenheimer, for all we know, could be the next great young head coach. But we know a major reason why Schottenheimer was selected, promoted, to be Mike McCarthy's successor. Think about it for a second One fact A Jerry Jones guy. He's not going to, not play a role in decision-making football operations. Jerry is going is Jerry. Who knows? We may all be wrong about this, you never know. Younger coach, the one thing I do like about that young blood, younger, not retreads from around the NFL.

Speaker 2:

All right, just want to let you know the last time the Cowboys last played in the Super Bowl 1996. Permanently etched in this side of my brain and your brain, everybody's so. Super Bowl 59, philadelphia, kansas city eagles making their fifth appearance. The chiefs they're seven dacy going for a first first time to three-peat. It's hard to do, but how is kansas city done and how Philly, one of the Cowboys' NFC East rivals, find a way to do it Three times this century, am I wrong? Or is it four? I can't say anything. I'm not going to be negative. Who are you texting? I want to root for the three-peat, I just want to see it done. Now, one of my favorite parts about the Super Bowl, or one of the few things unless it's the Cowboys or a young man that I followed through college or maybe I covered back in my media days are the novelty prop backs. Here are just a few from Super Bowl LIX.

Speaker 2:

And the length of the national anthem is always a heated debate. John Batiste will be singing, so from first note of music or voice to the last note of music or voice, over or under 120 and a half seconds, that's two minutes and a half a second. What do you think Over under? I'll put this up on social media Now. Will Travis Kelsey propose to Taylor Swift post-Super Bowl? Now, surely that would mean if Kansas City wins. I don't think he would propose to Taylor after a loss if Philly wins. Right, we know Kendrick Lamar is going to be singing at halftime. How many diss tracks will Kendrick sing about? Drake? I'll say two. And lastly, who will the MVP of the Super Bowl thank First during the post-game interview? God, family, the opportunity, adversity, my lovely wife, kids, whatnot? I want to hear what you have to say. I want you to predict all these on the stories inside the man Cave Facebook page, twitter and on Instagram.

Speaker 1:

Hey, man, tell me something good.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we love positivity and that's how we roll inside the Stories. Inside the man Cave, we got to end on positivity Beautiful. Inside the man cave we got to end on positivity, beautiful. The beauty of where we live Is the simple fact the climate Cold weather, gloomy skies are depressing.

Speaker 2:

Seasonal change Very few places when you can have bitterly cold and 80 plus degrees In early February. That I'm extremely grateful for. I'm grateful to see another day, grateful that you're watching this. But I'll tell you something good. There's a beautiful spirit of togetherness because of this seasonal change, this rare week of 80s. Embrace it. This life is too short not to appreciate Just stepping outside. I know it sounds like I'm preaching, but, man, I'm grateful for the smallest of things and so should everybody. My apologies to each of you DFW sports fans. It is never good when you talk about losing your favorite players, your face, your franchise and the hiring of a coach. You didn't want to be head coach, but you know what? Anytime, anytime, we have an opportunity to dish out an episode and talk about the great world that is sports and life in general. It's always good to talk about it. So, so Thank you.
