Speaker 1:

What does the name meaning of Aziz? The name Qamon means a strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong, strong. Hi, I'm Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the University of Texas, and I'm Clyde Hargrove. I'm a roofer. I also saw action in 52 games and I fixed a lot of roofs. I also won a Rose Bowl and never lost to A&M and I fixed a lot of roofs. Right, Stevie.

Speaker 4:

Oh, right, right, I'm sorry, I zoned out a little bit, so are you going to?

Speaker 3:

say the thing about Hargrove roofing. Hargrove roofing Know who's on your roof. Is this even going to work as a commercial For yours? Pressure comes, sawyer, knock it out and picks it up, jack Sawyer.

Speaker 5:

Headed down the sidelines.

Speaker 2:

Ohio State scoop and score and dagger from 82 yards.

Speaker 3:

Stevie Lee. That was the last memory of Texas football last year, finishing in the semifinals again in the CFP, the expanded college football playoff.

Speaker 1:

I'm trying to figure out why you showed me that.

Speaker 3:

Well, that was the last basically the dagger that ended the season last year. But now here we are.

Speaker 1:

Here we are. Game week Game week Game week.

Speaker 3:

We made it. We survived an incredible summer. We survived all the anxious energy Game season opening. Game week has arrived and the horns and the Buckeyes not Buckeye as in singular a lot of changes since that Cotton Bowl semifinal game. Both teams lost a lot. Ohio State two new coordinators, a new young quarterback, texas Both teams lost a lot to the NFL. Texas also has a brand-new quarterback, but he has some experience. Defense is going to be Texas strength. Ohio State I don't know, but they've got some great, great talent coming back. I love this instead of opening up with somebody like East Popcorn State.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, man, this is going to be fun. I'm looking forward to it. The buzz in the city is going crazy. I don't remember the last time we opened up on the road, but it is what it is. This is going to be fun, man. I'm fired up.

Speaker 3:

Man, it's fired up. Stevie has a lot of stories from his time as a Texas Longhorn playing for the great, legendary Mack Brown, and those glory years in Texas and Oklahoma were pretty much top five every year. Great years and great memories. Maybe he'll have a man cave story later, I don't know. But in the meantime, be sure to follow us on each of our social media platforms. Can you tell we're a little excited, we're a little fired up, we're a little excited? You can tell in our voices. And Stevie, while everyone's following us on all of our social media platforms, as you see there, and subscribing to YouTube for free, have you noticed, when Monday rolled around this week, that everybody's been in a great mood, not because of, hey, it's the end of summer somewhat, because that's what Labor Day weekend signifies the end of summer but have you noticed there's the rudeness of people, or just people, just in a good mood period because of what's about to happen this weekend?

Speaker 1:

I feel a buzz around town man. It's a good mood, good, good vibrant mood around town right now.

Speaker 3:

So I feel it. Hey, let's get to it, man. This is our first episode of the football season. The last time we saw you guys was a couple of weeks ago in Kicking Things Off three-hour live episode. You can check that out on YouTube and our Facebook page. Great turnout at the Boulevard, bro. That was a lot of fun. Twenty-one guests.

Speaker 1:

Yep, that's a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. It was long, though. It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. It was long though.

Speaker 3:

It was a lot of fun Long. We worked hard for that.

Speaker 1:

You worked hard. I was just there. You worked really hard.

Speaker 3:

Much love. Brother. Are you ready to roll on episode 374? Let's roll, let's ride. Baby Got a lot of time. Closing zone Cut Touchdown Texas. Got a lot of time. Closing zone Caught Touchdown Texas. What a great play for the Horns. Smith, there's the safety. There's the safety. With 19 seconds to go, aaron Harris takes Troy Smith down in the end zone. That was the last time Texas paid a visit to the shoe in Columbus, ohio. That great 2005 season happened to be the season following your final year of eligibility. That was a tremendous game. A lot of NFL talent on that field between both Ohio State and Texas, and two great plays. Well, there were several great plays, but defining plays Vince to Limus Swede, and we were. You know he's. We're trying to get a hold of Limus. I'm sure everyone else is as well. And then, of course, aaron Harris great human being, the linebacker on that delayed blitz got Troy Smith in the end zone, which sealed it up for the Horns in that game. What do you remember most and where were you for that game?

Speaker 1:

Well, I had just finished playing college football the year prior and I started my career in real estate and I've been doing it ever since. But I remember sitting at home I had an apartment back then and I remember sitting at home I wanted to go to that game but, as you know, back then when you left college, you left college broke. So I was working in real estate doing my thing and we sat down my fiancee at the time, I believe now is my wife we sat on the couch and watched that game. I remember when they sealed it, we jumping up and down, having a good time, and then we went out, you know. So that was fun, man, it was fun to watch, fun to be a part of. And I still felt part of that that team, because I had just finished playing months prior.

Speaker 3:

Oh, you were, you're, you're, you're connected to all of them for life. And you are right, I mean you still. You see a lot of these guys yeah.

Speaker 1:

Those guys in that clip were my teammates, you know.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you shared a special bond for life with them and it was a great year. And I remember Vince Young saying with AJ Hawk and who were those two linebackers, aj Hawk and Carpenter, bobby Carpenter, right Vince was saying while they had him on the ground that Vince said man, y'all come out hitting tonight. And they were very similar teams, very similar teams. You know right now if you suffered a loss in that type of game it's not going to hurt you too bad, but back then you know you're eliminated for the most part for playing in the BCS National Championship.

Speaker 3:

If you're not aware, I'm Sean Clinch, the host of Stories Inside the man Cave, co-host of the Pass Rush with Stevie Lee. That's Stevie Lee on the right. We want to give a big shout-out to all of our sponsors, but for this one, especially Hargrove Roofing. They are big fans of Texas longhorn sports by being from Louisiana and they have built their business and have a significant presence in the great state of Texas and they're excited for this game. We've talked to them and it's amazing. But you know the face, the unofficial face and voice for marketing of Hargrove Roofing is the big guy to my right. Hargrove Roofing. Complete the sentence.

Speaker 1:

Hargrove Roofing know who's on your roof.

Speaker 3:

He does it so well. He does it so well, stevie. Your acting is phenomenal. And speaking of sponsors, we have recently onboarded our sixth sponsor. Shout out to Dave Ramirez and Northwest Hills Liquor. Dave Ramirez, great guy, intelligent, really good business guy, but very knowledgeable of his bourbons and wines. If you recognize the name well, he used to be the GM of Cover 3. Shout out to Doug and Katie Young and the Cover 3 family. They are big stories inside the man Cave supporters as well.

Speaker 3:

When we start out for this game Texas number one in the country and Ohio State number two in one poll and you think about quarterbacks. But we begin with the one that we've been waiting for and you have to give respect to Quinn Ewers for helping Texas get to where they are now as the quarterback. But the Manning era at QB1 begins. It seems like it's an eternity. Arch was asked this week, stevie, about Texas having the target on their backs. Yeah, because they are number one. That's a lot of pressures with you replacing as many people as Texas is, especially four of your five offensive line starters. But Arch, this says a lot about where his mind is.

Speaker 5:

I mean, I think that's always at Texas and I think we kind of try to shift the narrative. We're going for everyone else. Target's not on our back, we, we have a red dot on everyone else.

Speaker 3:

Red dot reference to a video game, but we know what he's talking about. When you're, when you're young, quarterback talks like that. What does that say about what? You translate it from another player's point of view.

Speaker 1:

I got fired up when I heard him say that. Man, I did too. I'm fired up right now. You know it reminded me of John Wick, the movie Right, john Wick. Somebody just went out and killed his dog and he's got blood on him Like he's ready to go, the blood in his eyes, like that's the mindset I want my quarterback to have. I want the rest of the team to fall in line, because if we got a target on our bat, that means we're running away. We are going to go on the attack. Everybody needs to watch out for us. I mean, I love it. I love that mindset. I love that he said it in the media. I love that. You know it's out there now and now. He has to back it up and I think he can. I really do, I really think he can back it up. I'm fired up when I heard him say it.

Speaker 3:

He's been raised well through good pedigree, good genetics, knows how to be humble, knows how to be a leader. He is taught. You know, even his grandfather, the great Archie Manning, told him slide and get out, get down and get out of bounds to preserve your health. But if you think about it, texas back-to-back years will be opening. Well, facing the defending national champion last year, went to michigan at the big house, silenced them really fast. They were the defending national champions, ohio state defending national champions at the shoe. Speaking of Ryan Day, they lost to Michigan again last year but they rallied together and won the national title and Ryan Day was criticized heavily by his fan base and all they did was pull it together, win the national title. He was asked about, you know, sark, as scripted plays, the number is, I'm assuming, different. But he was asked about that script, how to defend Arch Manning and that Texas offense on the script, and this is what Day had to say.

Speaker 5:

Steve's a great play caller, always has been, and I'm sure he has his method for doing that. Usually, most guys who are scripting games are trying to get the quarterback into a rhythm, so I'm sure they're going to want to do that with Arch, and then he's probably trying to identify what he's got out there.

Speaker 3:

So I like Ryan Day as a coach, regardless of what Buckeye fans have said in the past. But they're a hard. That's a championship-level blue-collar, blue-blood excuse me fan base that is pouring out with passion for Buckeye football and that's why it's a pressure-packed job, just like it is at Texas. Your thoughts on what he said about the Sark script and how he's trying to get some momentum for Arch early on.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't think that that was a secret. Everybody knew that. That's exactly why you do a script and also you get to study and the good thing about the offense is you can have your own script and do what you want to do and then the defense has to react to whatever your script is. So he's not wrong whatever he can say, whatever you want to say, but he's not wrong. Whatever he can say, whatever you want to say, he's not wrong. That's exactly right. I'm trying to figure out what kind of hair dye or beard dye endorsement he has. Maybe I need it, maybe I don't.

Speaker 3:

You're rocking the gray bro.

Speaker 1:

I'm rocking the gray all the way through.

Speaker 3:

You're doing a good job of it. The thing with Arch you know he's got new receivers, a new tight end, and you know you talk about the four new offensive line starters. You know you've got a new one over at center. Now that's a key position, I think, on the field that nobody talks about. There's going to be growing pains and I think being on the script will only help, but I think people need to if they're expecting Arch and this offense to come out on all cylinders where they're smooth. I think you need to tone it down a little bit. Let this defense get in there. Arch will have some big-time plays, but what do you do? Do you go get Arch the confidence on that first drive, first play? What do you do? Are you going deep? What are you doing? Because he loves to chunk that deep ball. It's humming.

Speaker 1:

What are you doing? Because he loves to chunk that deep ball. It's humming. Yeah, I think that good fundamental football being part of the script in the first few plays. It's not the end of the world if you go three and out. Every offense has to find their rhythm. Likely, ohio State will go three and out with the defense we're playing with. But I think that he needs to be patient, really follow the script. Don't go for the touchdown every single play, but keep an eye out for it. You keep hitting underneath. They're going to give you something long. He has an incredible arm that can get it out there. He was always my favorite with the deep ball, better than yours with the deep ball.

Speaker 3:

That was well documented by Stevie.

Speaker 1:

Well documented. The kids are gunslingers. If you're making the defense look out what's over the top, then there's some underneath stuff that's open. I think the playbook is wide open for him, but in the beginning of the game follow the script and get your rhythm, just like Dave said.

Speaker 3:

This is going to be a chess match of a game. Last year at Michigan, texas went for the jugular early and it worked. Who's to say that won't happen? But just be patient with this offense, because it's natural with the number of people. But having said that, they have recruited and developed enough, in my opinion, that of course you're going to have some growing pains, but these guys are prepared. Look what Goosby did last year when Banks went down to an injury. Who's going to be a high-performing pro now, goosby? There was no drop-off at all at all.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and people don't think about that. Like he, banks was probably Banks in my opinion before he got hurt was the best offensive lineman in the country hands down. Yeah, my opinion before he got hurt was the best offensive lineman in the country hands down. But then another guy comes in for him and there was no drop-off. People think that we have an inexperienced. We got a very experienced offensive line. A lot of them played, maybe not started or maybe they're playing a new position, but they still got playing time. So they got the feel of big time college football and it will translate well onto the field because they have that experience. It's just it's. It just is what it is like. You can talk about how is he's new and he's new, but they're really not. They played and they got the experience.

Speaker 3:

No, that's a good point. And they cross-train those linemen at all those positions. All those positions, just like Pete Kwiatkowski does with the DBs, yep, safety corner, safety corner and that's defensive staff. So we've all heard it since day one the red zone offense woes or miscues. Since Steve Sarkeesian, I mean, he can get the ball. His offenses are spectacular, very productive. That's well documented. But since his arrival in 2021, they get in the red zone and have not succeeded very well.

Speaker 3:

However, the percentage, if you were to draw a map of a trajectory map, that percentage has done this and I thought it was funny and telling. Now listen to sark and watch his body language To do this during a season opener against a high-profile opponent. I want to know your thoughts on his delivery and his kind of body language and his laid-back approach. You guys want a really cool stat.

Speaker 4:

You guys want a really cool stat. So two years ago okay, two years ago we were just over 50% touchdowns in the red area. Last year we were 64% touchdowns in the red area. So we did make some improvements.

Speaker 5:

We just need to continue to improve.

Speaker 3:

So I'm reading that's not some earth-shattering deal, but that drastic improvement to the mid-60 percentile. For those watching and wondering, what does that mean? It's not settling. So almost two-thirds of the time when you get in the opponent's goal line to the 20-yard line, the red zone, you are scoring a touchdown two-thirds of the time opposed to a field goal or nothing at all.

Speaker 1:

He calls it the red area.

Speaker 3:

Red area.

Speaker 1:

He calls it the red area.

Speaker 3:

I think everyone has their own red area and you will on hot days at DKR.

Speaker 1:

No question so, but that was something that we needed to work on In my head. Once you hit the red zone or red area, you got to score. You got to score If it's a field goal. It's a field goal If not put it in the end zone. But you got to put points on the board in the red area.

Speaker 3:

Let's see if it goes up. If that percentage goes up this year, that should be very telling, yeah, unstoppable. I think Sark knows something we don't. Yeah For him to be as cool, because the players feed off the head coach.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Let's go back to Matt Brown in 05. He knew, he knew with you guys in 04, your last year. He knew, but especially in 05.

Speaker 1:

He knew something was special about that team. He knew that he had Vince coming back. It was something special that was going to happen when we got off the field against Michigan.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they knew, they had something and Vince was fired up in the wind and ready to come back next year. That next year for the national championship. He proclaimed it right then yeah, against Michigan, and then came back. So I feel like Coach Sark knows something and sees something. He's been around championship teams when he was at Alabama, a lot of championship teams and USC as well. So I always said, you know, giving credit to Nick Saban, I always said that Nick Saban was the big daddy of college football, but there's always going to be a next man up who's going to replace him. And before we hired Sark, I said Sark might be the next man up. And so, yeah, eventually, and so this might be it he may be solidifying himself as the next royalty of college football. And we got him here at the University of Texas.

Speaker 3:

First, he's got to beat Georgia. They've got to figure that out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

They've got to win the SEC and win national championships.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

There's a lot to overcome, but they're perched up on a position that this program hasn't been in a long time.

Speaker 1:

You also got to look, though it's a different college football landscape than back then. We've been in the semifinals two years straight. That's what got him a raise just being there. The way college football landscape is right now is getting to the dance and then making it deep into the dance, so he's been doing a phenomenal job.

Speaker 3:

I bet he's done enough to earn as many Boulevard Burgers at the Bully that he wants, with those delicious tater tots and frothy beverages. Yeah, he can get.

Speaker 1:

Coach Sark can get stranded at Ikea in Round Rock and still make it home in 30 minutes. Somebody will pick him up, somebody he's royalty around here, man.

Speaker 3:

He is hey, you're a defensive guy, so you've been to practice and we all know what's coming back on this defense. We know what's not coming back but, just like the recruiting we're talking about, what do you see that may lead Sark and Pete Kwiatkowski, the defensive coordinator, and Dwayne Aquino back for his first year, back as the DB coach, DBU, the godfather? What do you think they're seeing, from what you've seen, to give you so much championship-level expectations?

Speaker 1:

Man, I'm going to be honest with you and I'm a little bit biased. It's the D-line for me.

Speaker 3:

And they lost some guys.

Speaker 1:

They lost some guys but replaced some guys. I was talking, man. We got six guys that could have started that defensive tackle and the hardest part of the hardest job of the defense was trying to figure out who was going to round out there. First. You only put two defensive tackles out there, some packages three, but the starters you had to choose the starters and that was hard because all six of them can start at that position. So what I'm looking forward to is it's going to be like a hockey change and keeping these guys very, very fresh throughout the game.

Speaker 3:

That's the. Is there any defensive lineman in particular that stands out that that that is new to being a starter? That stands out to you from your critique because you played the position right, no, they're all pretty good man, uh.

Speaker 1:

But if we're going out to the linebacker and defensive man, I really like colin simmons, right, like I really really like to watch him play. I keep an eye on him whenever we're at practice. Um, just coming off the edge but, um, golly, who's the kid? I forgot his name. They're all just really good.

Speaker 3:

I want to see January. Yes.

Speaker 1:

January.

Speaker 3:

He's a legacy. His dad played at Texas in the 80s.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, january did stand out. What number is he Number? Is it 95? No, anyway, january was really good for me in practice, but, like I said, they're all good. There was no drop off and they were going against the ones, the ones on offense, so it was pretty fun to watch.

Speaker 3:

So you mentioned Colin Simmons and the Buckeyes finally named their quarterback, julian Sane.

Speaker 3:

He was announced on Instagram, they put a picture up on their Instagram and then they had a press conference in which he said, obviously, what all coaches do when you have a quarterback or position battle Julian Sand, a highly recruited kid out of California. Everybody in the country wanted him. But Colin Simmons, who is a preseason all-American type defensive end and what I'm told I got to mention this he's been coached where his get-off speed is unbelievable. He's been coached now to get in the three-point stance. He was usually a two-point stance guy where he's standing up, so he's saying that he is faster off of a three-point stance as a defensive end pass rusher. So Colin Simmons saw that. When Julian Sane was announced as the starting quarterback for Ohio State, colin Simmons put it in his Instagram story and he was asked about is there something behind all that? And in the how can I say this Prophetic, intellectual type of way, colin Simmons with his own absolutely humorous, dry humor answered the question in a way only Colin Simmons could answer.

Speaker 6:

Honestly, I'm just excited that they chose a quarterback. There's really nothing major behind it. I'll say there's no target for him or nothing like that.

Speaker 1:

I'm just glad that they have a quarterback that I'm ready to sack. Hey man, if you talk like that in front of the cameras, you got to do it on the field man, so he has to go out there and actually do it. He said it.

Speaker 3:

It's in the atmosphere and let's go get it. You see he's growing up, he's filling out.

Speaker 1:

Yeah yeah, he had his neck in that interview.

Speaker 3:

That guy between him and Anthony Hill A-Hill, not A-Hole, but Anthony Hill. A-hill, not A-Hole, but Anthony Hill.

Speaker 1:

Exactly.

Speaker 3:

But that's a quarterback nightmare to have those two guys on the edge.

Speaker 1:

Yep, absolutely it is. And then those two big guys coming right in front of you too. So that's what I'm saying. This D-line is bro, it's going to be fun to watch this Saturday. I can't wait.

Speaker 3:

Well, they got to stop the run. That's first and foremost. Stevie Lee. You've been a part of what five season openers at Texas.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I was.

Speaker 3:

Season openers. You never opened on the road.

Speaker 1:

I don't think I did. I could be wrong, but I don't think I did.

Speaker 3:

I don't remember yeah.

Speaker 1:

I think we were supposed to play Hawaii my freshman year. That game got canceled.

Speaker 3:

That's unfortunate. Yeah, the 95 team opened up at Hawaii.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And that's when we first saw Ricky Williams at fullback and the great Sean Mitchell from LBJ ran all up and down the field. There you go. Stevie Lee man cave story. Do you have one that in particular from a specific season opener you have?

Speaker 1:

one that in particular from a specific season opener? Absolutely I do. It was way back in 2000,. September 2000 or end of August 2000,. One of those, my first game, first college football game ever. I get in the game Sean Rodgers no, it's not Sean Rogers. Casey Hampton comes out and I was his backup as soon as he was ready to come out. I was trotting on when we were playing Louisiana Lafayette.

Speaker 3:

Raging Cajuns.

Speaker 1:

Raging Cajuns and I get down in my stance and I'm ready to go. I'm fired up. I'm playing big-time college football. I'm in Texas. I got Texas across my chest. Quarterback gets on the center. I'm right there in the one technique, just shaded to the left side of the center, my eyes are glued on the ball Quarterback.

Speaker 3:

As you are coached to do.

Speaker 1:

As you're coached to do, as your coach to do quarterback down, say hard count, trying to draw me off sides. You know what he did. He drew me off sides and all of a sudden I heard the whistle and I looked to my side. There's a flag flying offside Texas, number 65. And I just I just that's my very first play was a penalty in college, college football.

Speaker 1:

And uh, later on I get the story mark pittman is in the stands, uh, and my dad and my mom is in the stands and mark is uh, sitting a couple people down from my dad and I jump off sides and Mark Pittman jokingly yelled very loud oh man, whose kid is that? To my dad. And my dad just dropped his head and shook his head and he was like that's mine, he's mine. We marched it up, it's all mine. Yeah, marched it up five yards and then I was determined to get that five yards back. So I don't know if I had a tackle for loss then, but we played the game. But that was my introductory to a season opener against Louisiana Lafayette. My career opener, my college career opener, was an all-sides play.

Speaker 3:

Hey, it happens.

Speaker 1:

Does it, does it happen?

Speaker 3:

It happens he knew you were in. He did the hard count for a reason.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we got freshmen in here for hard count, hard count freshmen, freshmen, freshmen, freshmen, freshmen.

Speaker 2:

Yep.

Speaker 3:

Brother, that's funny, that's a great man cave story. Hey, listen, man, we're going to take a quick break and we're going to hear more about. Hargrove. Roofing and on the other side of this break we're going to talk about a couple of local guys, local phenomenal, local products who are maybe the best in their class and position in the country. Now, at both TCU and Baylor, season opening week. Man, it continues. We'll see you another Saturday's break.

Speaker 4:

Here at Hardcore Roofing we try to think outside the box to kind of get the creative juices flowing. So I brought in my friend Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns. He's going to help the team strategize, really motivate them. Light a fire.

Speaker 1:

This guy's going to block down. This guy's going to block down. You put your butt into the guard and that way my Mike linebacker gets free to do what.

Speaker 4:

Not only are they going to learn a thing or two, but they're going to also leave with a great attitude and a bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 2:

I'm sorry. What does this have to do with roofing exactly? Get out Right now.

Speaker 1:

I said get out.

Speaker 4:

For me, that's what it's all about. It's just having fun, making our employees have a great time Hargrove Roofing know who's on your roof, but it's a really, really good group. Ed Small is just incredibly consistent and every time you throw him the ball he makes a play.

Speaker 3:

Ed Small stories inside the man Cave VIP alumni, along with his father, clint Small, the great former Anderson Trojan receiver, returner, db, everything. One of the best. I'm not just saying it because I went to Anderson High School and played for that program that I have a lot of pride in, but he's one of the best to play in AISD history and he was going to play baseball at Texas. He wanted a place where he could potentially play. Both TCU said come on, he's going to play. I don't know how much, I don't know if he'll start, but he's going to play a lot for the Horned Frogs and Sonny Dyches. Did you from what you know? I mean, I knew he was going to make an impact somehow, but this early, did you see Ed making Ed to make this much of an impact already? Because when your coach is mentioning you in preseason interviews, you've caught his eye. You've done something to earn that.

Speaker 1:

No, when we interviewed him on Stories Inside the man Cave, I just thought that he was a really good kid, great kid, great family and head on straight. So if you put any, I felt like if you put anything in front of him, he was going to conquer it Right. His dad and his mom are phenomenal. They said that his mom is the best athlete in the house.

Speaker 2:

Oh, hands down.

Speaker 1:

His dad played football at Vandy, and so if the mom is the best athlete in the house, then he has a really good for lack of better words pedigree, and so anything you put in front of an athlete like that, that's a good kid that has a good head on his shoulder. He's going to tackle it and conquer it. So it's no surprise that his coach is mentioning him already as a true freshman, correct, Yep.

Speaker 3:

True freshman.

Speaker 1:

He reported early this spring January report yeah, yeah, so, as a true freshman, coming in and making an impact on a team like TCU, and he's going to play baseball, or potentially play baseball right. Yeah, that kid has the world in front of him and he's tackling everything that they throw at him, so hats off to him. I hope he has a phenomenal year. I hope he does break all kinds of records and do whatever he wants to do at TCU, but playing both baseball and football.

Speaker 3:

Good kid, Good kid. So his mom was a great athlete. His older sister, Annie Division I lacrosse player in the Ivy League.

Speaker 3:

So it's a great athletic family, even better human beings, and Clint, product of he's loyal forever Austin Maroon. And then Clint's dad, football, from Texas, you know. So it's just a former college football player himself and also a great contributor to the city of Austin and AISD period. So, josh Cameron, you and I interviewed he and his mom. Great story, Great family, great story right there. Because he was a great receiver at Cedar Park High School, walked on to Baylor and was put on scholarship eventually.

Speaker 3:

Earned his scholarship, yep One of the top 250 players, preseason in the country of all of college football and preseason Bolitnikoff Award watch list. I'm not a big fan of those, but if national media whatnot are saying that, that means that's legit and you and I had an opportunity. This is a clip from their interview when we were talking about Baylor coming off of a. They had a really down season the year before started the season, so just a horrible start last year and rallied off all these wins, got into a bowl, had a great performance, and we asked him about that. Josh Cameron, on what to expect from Baylor. You know TCU and Baylor could be there in the end for the Big 12 championship.

Speaker 2:

Just trying to get those guys plugged in and connected and just kind of seeing how they just move forward and just climb. That's what spring went on. I think we're in a great, great spot. For sure. I'm just super excited for August 30th, august 29th, I can't remember which day, but to play Auburn.

Speaker 3:

Back out.

Speaker 2:

Prime time. I'm super excited for that momentum, so definitely want to shoot way, way higher than what last year was, but last year was definitely a good start for sure.

Speaker 3:

Look at that. So Baylor opens up. Thursday night against Auburn Auburn, sec, auburn.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's going to be fun for them as well. Shout out to us we got some pretty good players to come on Stories Inside the man Cave. I mean, I'm sorry, sean, you got some really good players. You helped Come on Stories Inside the man Cave, like we got some. That's some talent with Josh Cameron and Ed Small, so hopefully we can get them on later to talk about their careers Small with his first year in the college football and then Cameron with his last year in college football. That'll be fun.

Speaker 3:

Well, it's going to be a lot of fun, stephen. We've had a lot of fun with great people just good human beings, good families and great stories. And if you want to go back on our Facebook page or YouTube page, look up the Cameron story. His lovely mother has overcome a lot health-wise and to be where she is and she has the best spirit. And then Ed and his dad, clint, was on with this, I think after their junior year at Anderson. It was a great episode as well. We learned more about it. So college football week one first full week upset. Potential TCU travels to Chapel Hill to play ACC North Carolina. Mack Brown's former program Bill.

Speaker 1:

Belichick.

Speaker 3:

Bill Belichick's debut. If TCU wins, is that an upset?

Speaker 1:

No, I expect TCU to win.

Speaker 3:

I do too.

Speaker 1:

I put it on there because, depending on who you talk to, yeah, I don't see belichick being a good college coach.

Speaker 3:

I don't see it well, they got quite an organization. You know, they got the gms, the uh scouts, all this, everything, everything nowadays. So I'm with you, man. I think TCU probably may roll in this one. How about the fighting Josh Camerons and Baylor Bears Thursday night game almost said Floyd Casey Stadium that has been torn down years ago. I don't know why I still have Floyd Casey in mind, but Waco Thursday night primetime, auburn at Baylor.

Speaker 1:

That's a tough one for me, man.

Speaker 3:

I think it'll be a great game.

Speaker 1:

I think it'll be a great game. When is that one? Is that Saturday or Thursday?

Speaker 3:

I just said, Thursday tomorrow night.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, golly, golly. I don't know man, I think I got Baylor.

Speaker 3:

I'm taking. Baylor. Is that an upset if Baylor wins?

Speaker 1:

No, these teams are pretty evenly matched, I think. I think it can go either way. I don't know if it's an upset. No, I think Baylor should win that game.

Speaker 3:

I think Baylor, regardless of who's favored. I think people are going to think well, the SEC and Auburn and Hugh Freeze should win this game. I'm going to go ahead and say it because when everyone says a season SEC versus a Big 12, they think they're going to take the SEC. I'm going to say Baylor at home. If you want to call it an upset, that's up to you, but I'm taking Baylor in this one Dude. No disrespect to our guy, our brother Jay Boulware, who's also a two-time VIP alumni. He's an assistant at Kentucky, vip alumni of this podcast. I think Toledo pulls off the upset.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I may be wrong yeah. Northwestern. Sorry, Boulware Sorryern.

Speaker 3:

Sorry, jb, we love you man. You guys are more than likely To be bowl eligible, maybe more Because the SEC is, I think, deeper this year than it was last year. Northwestern At Tulane I'm taking an upset there, tulane what school is that? Northwestern At Tulane I'm taking an upset there at Tulane. What school is that?

Speaker 1:

Northwestern and Tulane. Who are you taking? I'm taking Tulane in the upset, sean, I'm from Louisiana and I'm going to tell you that it's not Tulane, tulane, tulane. Tulane yep, I've been corrected. A lot Tulane, tulane, tulane. Yep, I've been corrected a lot. I know it's Tulane man, yeah, so I got Tulane as well.

Speaker 3:

Oh, shoot you up. All right. Carlton State they have invested a lot since they moved up to Division I. They're FCS currently. Their facility's off the charts. Yep, they just opened their new arena, unbelievable Football stadium, impressive Everything. They're part of the Texas A&M system. Did they not play last week? They did. They did, yeah, they're going to play West Point, portland, right? Yep, portland State.

Speaker 1:

Yep, tarleton did, yeah, they're going to play West Point Portland right Yep.

Speaker 3:

Portland State Yep.

Speaker 1:

Tarleton.

Speaker 3:

State Texas.

Speaker 1:

Did they win yeah?

Speaker 3:

Blew them out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Army had a great year last year. I'm taking Tarleton in the upset, not because I'm pulling all Texas here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so you're taking Tarleton. Yeah, I'll take it too. Man, I'll take it too. I like it they already got a game under their belt, they got the rhythm going.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, they do. Army will be tough FCS over FBS. And lastly, remove the blinders. Remove anything in my background that states SFA. Sfa, in my opinion, has the best quarterback, Sam Vidlak, in the FCS division, and they have a guy named Bobino who plays your position, who's a disruptor Colby Cartho, the head coach, VIP alumni of Stories Inside the man Cave University of Houston. They're loaded. They have good talent in the Big 12. Thursday night game, I'm taking the Lumberjacks to shock the world.

Speaker 1:

You're a little biased, aren't you?

Speaker 3:

No, I just feel it Catch them on guard Thursday night.

Speaker 1:

Weird things happen, nah, man, I got to stick with U of H on this one.

Speaker 3:

Hey, I don't blame you.

Speaker 1:

To top it all off this massive week one, look at these matchups Stevie Week one on Saturday the Longhorns and the Buckeyes, the Road Tide against the Seminoles, the Tigers against the Tigers, the Irish against the. What is it? Dolphins, not Dolphins. Miami, what Hurricane.

Speaker 3:

The.

Speaker 1:

U, the U, and are we doing predictions on this?

Speaker 3:

No, we don't have to. I mean, I'll go ahead and tell you right now. I think Texas escapes Columbus. I don't know what the score will be. I think Florida State is going to be a lot better than last year. That did not work out all those transfers for them together. I think Florida State will give Bama a run.

Speaker 1:

I don't think so. I think Bama will roll them.

Speaker 3:

Okay, and.

Speaker 1:

I think Clemson.

Speaker 3:

That's a good one and I think Clemson pulls off the win against LSU and Nesmeyer.

Speaker 1:

I disagree. Lsu.

Speaker 3:

You like Nesmeyer Yep, All right. Notre Dame Miami. This used to be a really good rivalry at one point. I don't think.

Speaker 1:

Versus the convicts.

Speaker 3:

I don't know, man. A lot of people are saying Notre Dame may be a disappointment this year.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, I got Notre Dame in this one.

Speaker 3:

I like to agree with you on that. I'm taking the irish, taking the irish over the canes and the? U? Uh. But you know what we got to remind people before the games even start, just in case you don't know who number one is I, I, I hold that head, I am number one.

Speaker 6:

No matter if you like it or take it, sit down and write it, I am number one.

Speaker 3:

Now let me ask you, man, what does it take to? I, like it, can't wait to be a DKR again, and we will. September 6th, san Jose State, and regardless of what happens in Ohio State, that game better be rocking at 11 am. But if they win, I'm sure it will. Hey, tiktok in the man cave. Peyton Manning and Devontae Adams had a conversation Quite hilarious.

Speaker 1:

What is your best pickup line?

Speaker 3:

I'd be like hey, baby, are you a beaver? Because damn.

Speaker 5:

I like that one. That was good.

Speaker 6:

Let me hear it again in library voice hey baby girl are you a beaver?

Speaker 5:

Because damn.

Speaker 3:

That's a good one.

Speaker 1:

It's a good one. That's a good one.

Speaker 3:

Devontae Adams, you got to get him on Fantasy. You have to get him. He's a good one. That's a good one, devontae Adams, you got to get him on fantasy. You have to get him. He's a good one. That's a good one to get. You cannot pick up Peyton. He's done.

Speaker 1:

Hey man, Tell me something good.

Speaker 3:

I think I know what Stevie's going to say, but we love positivity and we're excited this week more so than ever. Tell me something good, my brother.

Speaker 1:

Something good. You know exactly what I'm going to say. It's game week, baby, let's go Game week. As we're sitting here recording this in the evening, man, we got two more sleeps.

Speaker 3:

I like those, I like your train of thought.

Speaker 1:

Two more sleeps and then it's game day. So get your sleep, get your rest, hydrate, hydrate a lot, hydrate and get up Saturday morning. Get you some breakfast tacos. If you're not in Columbus, then sit on your couch and get a beverage of choice coffee or orange juice or spike it with something.

Speaker 3:

Sparkling water. Sparkling water.

Speaker 1:

Sparkling water. Yeah yeah, that's Sean on his Fru-Fru North Austin. Take right there, that's another Northwest Hills.

Speaker 3:

I'm throwing under the bus that you and Hards threw me under, it's 254, by the way, 254.

Speaker 1:

His area code yeah, so yeah, man, that's something good, bro. It's fun around Austin right now. Football is back in the air.

Speaker 3:

It's back Back Saturday morning. Be kegs and eggs, two more kegs, and eggs.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, baby. Two more sleeps. Two more sleeps. Let's ride baby.

Speaker 3:

Hey, I'll tell you something good. And eggs, yeah, baby. Two more sleeps, two more sleeps. Let's ride baby. Hey, I'll tell you something good, and this is just something personal.

Speaker 3:

High school football always is a part of our fabric and one of the best rivalries in the great state of Texas happens the first week between my alma mater and the McCallum Knights. I'll tell you something good. It has a new sponsor. This year. Taco Shack had a great run as a sponsor but sometimes, as we all know, all good things come to an end and our buddy, our good friend who was on fan of the program, eddie Joseph, the CEO of Legacy Turf and Greens, stepped up and is sponsoring the now first ever Shoal Creek Showdown. It used to be the Taco Shack Bowl for 22 years and the series is fairly even.

Speaker 3:

I think Anderson and my mighty Trojans have a two-game lead. Since it's been a sponsored bowl game, we're going to call it the Legacy Turf Bowl, coach Gammerdinger and the McCallum Knights. They are well-coached and very physical, very prideful. That's my mom, my late mom and late dad's alma mater. But I sure changed my mom to wear the blue and gold and she was a good Trojan mom. Much love, mama C, mom to wear the blue and gold and she was a good trojan mom. Much love. Mama see, she'll be watching as a sold out. The game is sold out already at house park stadium. Wow, no tickets or passes. I know I don't have any passes for anybody. Thursday night the legacy turf ball, the buddy. Thursday night the Legacy Turf Bowl, the Eddie Joseph Bowl. And shout out to all my night friends on McCallum we all grew up together. It is a backyard brawl, if you will.

Speaker 2:

Yep.

Speaker 3:

And it's beautiful. That's tell you something good, my brother. I can't wait. It's going to be a great time and a new beginning with a new name, as we talk about what is good about football donald hatcher, congrats. Good luck to your trojans. Coach gammer dinger, good luck to your knights. We're all family in the end. Stevie lee, we had so much fun that almost an hour has passed us. Yeah, and we thank each of you who have been following along. Be sure to share each of our content, be sure to like, follow each of our social media platforms, all of them for the great city of Shreveport and the Hargrove family, and to the city of my college alma mater, the Austin the Pines, nacogdoches, texas. To my lovely hometown, the great Austin, texas, and to all of you college football fans, and to Stevie Lee's family and everybody who supports this podcast, and to the OG man Cave boys, that being Hardball Harch, big Mike and Coach Mo. What do we tell them, stevie Lee?

Speaker 1:

We out.

Speaker 2:

You see the drip and I'm fitted up.

Speaker 1:

I'm in my car in a giddy up I said get out. The name Isalman means the world to me, religion. The name Qamon means a lot to me. The name Qamon means a lot to me Outro Music.
