What does the name meaning of Aziz? Thank you, ultimately not good enough. Obviously, you don't want to start off the season 0-1. They're a good team, but I thought we beat ourselves a lot and that starts with me, and I've got to play better for us to win. Can't wait until the second half to kind of get things going.
Speaker 2:Hey, stevie Lee, we had our first installment of the best three-way conversation ever with Longhorn Legend for Life, mike Adams, on Sunday and he gave between the both of you. There was a lot learned, I thought. And then I learned a lot more about this and my opinions kind of changed in 24 hours. That was Arch Manning's first ever start on a true road game and probably perhaps, if not the most, but one of the top three hostile environments in the country, and his first start against a true, true, major, significant opponent. He did play start against Mississippi State conference game. That's debatable. I just think this was a different beast.
Speaker 3:It was different, big, big, like that's one of the top five places to play in college football that he went to go play in for his first road start. So it's going to be some nerves there. I like what he said. It's on him and they got to do better. So I like. I like the press conference afterwards. I don't think that this team is done just just from the rhetoric that's coming out of the camp. I think that if we're going to lose, this is the one to lose and we'll meet them again.
Speaker 2:That's right. In the new CFP era you can afford one, maybe two of these. But hey, hats off to Texas and a handful of other programs playing marquee matchups early in the year and I think it's great for the fan base, especially for those of us who invest a lot of money and time into tickets. It's great because not only do you get in this part of the country the SEC schedule, you get great brand name marquee type of matchups to play at home and on the road. And you know you got Michigan and now Ohio State that are going to be circling back and making that trip to Austin. Hey, before we get started, we got to give a shout out to our family in Shreveport, louisiana, the home of the Stevie Lee, the Hargrove family, supporters of us, supporters of Longhorn Athletics, and they do quality work that really makes your home a home. Take it away, stevie.
Speaker 3:Or grow a roofing Know who's on your roof 100% you will.
Speaker 2:It's not just some stranger hopping up there and just collecting the check from insurance or out of your pocket. But, stevie, we're going to dive deep, we're going to pick up the pace. Man, are you ready?
Speaker 4:Let's ride, let's ride, let's ride baby so the expectations were out of control on the outside, but I'd say let's finish the book before we judge it. This is one chapter and we've got a long season to go play.
Speaker 2:A long book, according to these guys, and what I guess everybody would like a 16-chapter book. I am Sean Clinch, stevie Lee, both the co-hosts of the Past Rush with Stevie Lee. Everybody, I think, needs to tap the brakes a little bit, correct.
Speaker 3:Mm-hmm, Yep, tap the brakes a little bit. It wasn't what I predicted. I'm wrong, I was wrong. I was wrong. It wasn't what I predicted, but it seems like it is. They from what I'm hearing. Like I said, from what I'm hearing out of the camp. I like the attitude that we got work to do and let's go to work.
Speaker 2:And there were some good things, but you know we can't move forward. We're going to call it like we see it. We're going to be objective and we're going to have humor at the same time, because the only way to get through a disappointment for a fan base is through humor. And I think Arch with his upbringing, I think everybody just because, mainly because of his family, there was a lot of this going on on Twitter and some of the things that I read that everyone read, I just shook my head at and the criticism is off. I mean, some of it's warranted, but this was hilarious. His uncles, eli and Peyton the Mannings probably Arch is adopted that's pretty funny.
Speaker 3:but but those two did not come out with the type of pressure that Arch has right on him right now. So you know, you know, give him some grace, give him a couple games, arch is going to be perfectly fine.
Speaker 2:The great thing about this podcast and any podcast. These are just our thoughts, our points of view. The Hook'em fan base, the Texas Longhorn, the lovely devoted fan base Take a deep breath, Meditate. There's three games coming up. All winnable Should win by large margins. And Stevie will tell you at any position, not just quarterback the more reps you get when you're young, the better you get. The more looks you see, the more checkoff opportunities. And shout out to everybody Be patient, Take a deep breath, Namaste, Meditate.
Speaker 3:It's going to be fine, you're going to be alright.
Speaker 2:It's going to be good. Hey, before we dive any deeper, follow us on each of our social media platforms and subscribe for free to our YouTube page. And the beauty of that, it is free. And TikTok hey, I got to give a lot of shout out to those who watch this episode or this podcast on all platforms. Stevie, you'd be proud. I have generated more content, taking the time to put more into TikTok. You, the viewer, listener have grown our Instagram page 40% since the beginning of July, and TikTok as well. So, thank you and love the comments. And if I don't answer you or Stevie doesn't, we will at some point, because we all know we are career guys and in the case of Stevie, he's got a family and I've got a big career.
Speaker 2:So, this is episode 476. And we love all of our sponsors all six of them. Now. We recently onboarded Northwest Hills Liquor and Boulevard Bar and Grill, but this one is dedicated mainly to Hargrove Roofing. Shout-out to Jimmy Saxton, shout-out to Honest Plumbing and Air and everybody who supports us, including D dirties. All right, so we're about to put it to rest the season opening 14 to 7 loss at Ohio State. I haven't seen a game that close in forever and that low scoring. That's mainly what I want to harp on a little bit. But when you look at what Sark said, if you're not really sure what all transpired, sark broke down the type of defense if you were not already aware, despite the losses to the NFL and those who graduated. This is Sark summarizing what Arch had to view and see not only great athletes, but tremendous, tremendous football minds, six of which will probably be playing on Sundays in the NFL.
Speaker 4:They're able to hold coverages and whether it was a two-deep shell rolling to one high one, high playing, two deep, the variations of cover two. They played against us. They minimized the explosive plays, they stayed on top and really that's what we did. You know we have Michael Taft, jelani McDonald. Those guys are savvy players and we were able to do kind of both things there. I thought Manny Muhammad had a very good game for us. It's unfortunate, you know, the one kind of shot they took on us. You know they made the Carnell Tate makes a heck of a catch for a touchdown. But I thought both secondaries are good, both fronts are good. These are two good teams. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if we see them again. You know December.
Speaker 3:January down the road Would you agree with that, stevie Agree, there were some bright spots on the team, especially in the DBs. They were playing really well. Muhammad did play very well. Was it Muhammad that got the holding call? It was a ticky-tack foul. I don't know why they called it, but they called it nonetheless. But the defense played very well against Ohio State. We won every facet of the stat sheet except the score. I don't think we did a bad job on this game. We did really well. It's just that we needed to get the offense started a little bit quicker. That's all.
Speaker 2:Quicker and execute it. I think execution is more so the issue there and Ohio state. Give them I mean they play better, let's just give it to them that defense is just as good and they may be top two defenses in college football.
Speaker 3:And here are the.
Speaker 2:Basically, this is the story. These are the storylines from that game. As we put this chapter, go to the end of it. Texas outrushed Ohio State by 100 or 97, excuse me, 166 yards to 77. So that's 89 more yards rushing Texas. Rush defense, that's the key man you hold a team under 100. But the one that stands out. 203 total yards of offense for Ohio State and they also a true freshman quarterback.
Speaker 3:Yep, golly, this hurts, man, because you know, back in the day when I played, it was hold them under 100 yards rushing, we're going to almost guarantee win the game, you know, but you know, but holding them to the 14 points. We just got to put some more points on the board. That's the name of the game. Um, we got to make some stops in the red zone, um, so that fourth and one, you know, yeah, my lineman got to get under and submarine those guys. So we're not getting pushed back in the end zone, our, our linebackers can clean up over the top. So that's just some things that we got to work on in practice.
Speaker 3:We probably hadn't had much goal line stances like that in practice, but we got some film on it now and hopefully they can make a change, make some personnel changes, maybe on the goal line defense and actually know how to burrow, because I can get into it, man, because this is my domain. I love Leverage, I love the goal line man, I love going, not going to the ground, but submarining underneath and then pulling up and let my linebackers clean up on the backside. So that didn't happen on that goal line stance. I was talking to somebody and they were like. But we stopped them three times and I said but we needed four, right, so that's just. You know, that's the heart and soul of Texas. Football was big man on big man and for a couple of times this weekend we lost a big man on big man fight.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So before we add, I've definitely has a good segue by you, before we dive a little bit deeper into what you're talking about. Bit deeper into what you're talking about, how about that freshman DB, grayson Littleton, pro football focus, which does a great job of analyzing every game down to the individuals and giving them a rating? That freshman, if I remember correctly I read that correctly 86.6 pro football focus rating? That is the highest of all the DBs at Texas against Ohio State Grayson Littleton, true freshman, that's outstanding, bro. I mean, he was all over the field and he wasn't lost, he just played loose, yeah, but he has some good mentors back there.
Speaker 2:But to Stevie Lee's point 0 for 3 in the red zone. For those who are not too sure, I'd say 90% of you guys watching know what that is, that's when you're from the goal line to the 20 of the opponent's side of the field0 for 3. But here's another one. Sark was a gambler and I respect that Going forward on fourth down 20% success rate. And what Stevie was talking about, was this the key stop by the Ohio State defense that you know, I think nearly took the sales out of Texas. All right. So, stevie, what would you have rather seen in that situation. I know we're all pretty much armchair quarterbacks right now, but do you risk or where at on your priority? If you had a clipboard or a wristband, where does a quarterback sneak fall on your list of plays and which order would you call in that situation?
Speaker 3:no, I don't think um quarterback sneak is my was what I would have done. I I think um, a trap play or something like that, um, or going a little bit off tackle or off guard. But I don't think I'm running my quarterback at that. I mean he's young and too little right now. I mean he looks good as a good-looking quarterback but he's not the drop my shoulder. I'm going to go get you a yard type person which we just saw that. But I'm putting the ball in my big back hands so my back can go in there and bounce off somebody and fall into the end zone. So that's just not what I would have called. I think Sark still has confidence in Arch. That's why he called they still have confidence in his offensive line, but they are still young. So maybe you know jitters got into them because they did not win. The low man Low man always wins and they did not win on that play right there.
Speaker 2:They did not. That's advantage Ohio State. On that one they took advantage and exposed as they should have less experience in front of them, so to speak. But as we all do in life, you have the opportunity to learn from failures, period. But the second half I thought was a little different for Arch, big, big adjustments and I felt like you know Sark talked about that. But the second half I thought was a little different for Arch, big, big adjustments and I felt like you know Sark talked about that, having the conversation at halftime and I felt like Arch had a little bit more swagger, so to speak.
Speaker 4:The growth throughout the game for Arch was really encouraging. For me we're going to be fine. Like I said, we got work to do as a team and as an offense, but ultimately I'm getting on the plane knowing we're going to be a good football team.
Speaker 2:Okay, so they're back. They had their press conference today. It sounded different. They're not trying to put lipstick on a pig, it's just. It's the frustrating part about anything, especially football. When you have people at key positions, you can't accelerate their maturation.
Speaker 1:You just can't.
Speaker 2:This is no shot at any other position on the field, but quarterback man, you can't. Even Johnny Manziel needed some time. Even Vince needed time.
Speaker 3:Yep, and Coach is absolutely correct, man, the way he came out in the second half it made me feel like and I talked about it a little bit yesterday it made me feel like that they got away from the script that Coach has always been talking about and actually relaxed and let. And golly, how do I put this? Coach and Arch was in the second half. They were where their feet were. For me, going off a script, that's being somewhere else. You make that script up in your office. You make that script up on the practice field somewhere else other than right there, right where you are, so being where your feet are, seeing what's on the field, feeling the field, feeling the atmosphere, and calling plays to that, instead of calling plays from the comfort of your office, I should say, or the comfort of the quarterback's room. So when they got rid of the script, I believe they played much better.
Speaker 2:What Stevie's referring to is a lot of. There's a good handful of coaches who do it, but I suspect Sark is one of them.
Speaker 5:What he does. He talked a lot about it Huh.
Speaker 3:He talked a lot about it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, every game, to begin a game, there's a script of the first 15, 20 plays on offense, and all that is to have control over getting your quarterback and or offense into a rhythm, whether it be up-tempo, exposed, see what the other team does and then, after you're done with the script of the 15, 20, whatever number of plays, then you're able to start incorporating your normal motion and see what that defense does, because you have data points. Now, okay, they respond here. Well, I've got to get a larger grouping of receivers over here and get my playmakers in space. That's what that was and this is what happened which really opened it up and gave Texas they were never out of it, but they needed this play in a big way. Arch Madden Gives it Touchdown, texas Livingstone and the Longhorns are on the ball. I think we're going to hear that a lot. Parker, livingstone, redshirt freshman, I believe Large, lanky, tall, skilled, very skilled receiver Got a one-on-one and Art put that ball where only he Livingstone can get it.
Speaker 3:Yep, it was pretty man and it was that he had time in the pocket and he stood up. He looked off the safety and then came back right and hit him right in the hands in the end zone. That's the gunslinger football player that Arch is. Arch is not a script guy. He didn't look like a script guy. He was too uptight, trying to stay on script and stay on the plan and just let the kid go and play football. That's when it looked good, when he was just playing football.
Speaker 2:Just like Vince Young in my opinion, absolutely All of this would not be possible without that O-line. I thought and you have said it yesterday as well, I thought for four new guys starting, some of which had a lot of experience coming in as a backup in the previous couple of years. Thought they played really well and even Stark addressed that.
Speaker 4:Probably the worst communication we had was on that fourth down at the very end, you know, when we should have slid all the way to that free rusher and we just had a lapse that didn't get all the way down the line to Brandon Baker. But all in all, like I, was pleased with those guys, you know. You know we ran the football. I think we could have thrown it better than we did, but we didn't throw it the way we wanted to because of the O-line. I thought the O-line gave us ample protection and opportunities to throw the ball down the field.
Speaker 2:Stevie, I'm going to give that line a B, maybe a B-plus. What do you think?
Speaker 3:That's good. That's great. That's your opinion and we're going to live with it. I'm at a C, b minus. I'm between there. Yeah, man, at the University of Texas, you got to dig that group out so you can get a touchdown. You got to get a touchdown on the goal line. You just have to. We are known for big man. We put big offensive linemen and defensive linemen in the league, and that's the identity that the University of Texas has had for decades. And if you can't do that, then you lose the game. Right. But I am also. I do understand that I'm hard on offensive linemen and defensive linemen, because that's my domain, right. So, being able to dig them out and give, give art some time. That last play, if arch had a little bit more time, he would have found a receiver open. Right, they did. They did come with a blitz, but we still got to pick it up as a line. We got to pick that up. So the old line did well. Well enough to get seven points, but not well enough to get 1421 points, yeah.
Speaker 2:So you just yeah, they left some points on the table.
Speaker 3:They left some points on the table and that that fourth and one is. That's probably a little bit play call, but that's also whatever the coaches play call. Whatever the coach call, you got to execute it and they did not execute that fourth down play.
Speaker 2:Well, they're going to get a lot, like I said, and I really, really, really, really advise not only Texas fans, it's just my opinion, unsolicited opinion the next three games I know they're not sexy names in college football at all San Jose State they went to a bowl game the last few years. They got beat by Central Michigan 16-14 there and they're opener All right, they have talent. And then Sam Houston State, who made the transition to FBS recently, had a 10-win season last year. And then UTEP and they got a significant transfer who was one of the top portal guys, one of the top talents coming out of high school. But we'll save that info for UTEP week.
Speaker 2:But the whole point, Stevie, I advise every fan base embrace these opportunities, because what they achieve in games like this I know you're thinking well, how in the hell can they learn how to beat the physicality by playing these guys? Well, it's repetition and that's what this is, the only thing. I think it's holding this team back to achieve what they want to. In October and November, you know we were taking a dump all over Florida State, like everyone else was, and we thought they had no chance against Alabama. And what happened, Stevie? This happened. Oh, the first big field stormer of the year is underway.
Speaker 5:How good is it to have ball back folks?
Speaker 1:We've talked all along about the chemistry on this team and talked about how close we are and how hard we've worked doing a lot of the right things. But we'll find out. We'll find out if that sticks.
Speaker 2:All right, I would not want to beat Kalen DeBoer right now. First of all, you can't fault him for taking that job after Saban left from Washington. By the way, Texas is 0-2 against him. Washington and yeah, and the Alamo Bowl and, of course, the CFP semifinal. But what do you think it's like for him right now?
Speaker 1:Do you?
Speaker 2:think. Obviously things change when you follow a legend. Can he right the ship? And what a coaching job so far that has been done in Tallahassee, florida.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I did not see that one coming. I thought that Alabama was going to be Alabama again. I did too, yeah, but I do see it, man. Nick Saban is a big, big personality that you have to replace there and the whole culture change of that university Now in the same breath.
Speaker 3:Fsu was tired of being golly for lack of better words dumped on last year because the year before they cried about being in the college football playoffs that they didn't make it, and then they got, or they did make it and they got killed, right, and then they started the season off in Ireland last year and got manhandled and then they just did not have a good season.
Speaker 3:But so they've been hearing that and so they've been changing their culture and they wanted to come out and show what they. So they had a lot of momentum to change their culture and change the way people look at them. And they came out there and showed it and they did it against Alabama. They were at home, right, and so you know they have their home crowd with them. But you know it's Florida State got some momentum now and I think that I watched a little bit of that game. I watched a lot of that game and I was really impressed with their offense, the way they moved the ball, the way they were just playing tough and had grit on the field. So it was fun to watch and it was just surprising that Alabama so Stevie, your people do.
Speaker 2:They do this every time they win big games in LSU. Yeah Well, folks in Louisiana are just different. They dance to anything.
Speaker 3:They are different. But that song that the band was playing, it is a I forget the name of it, but it's like a Louisiana staple and it's a second line. You know what second line is? It's a second line. You know what second line is? It's a second line song. So if you were down in the French Quarter you'll see some actual second line stepping. Those people were having a good time that was in that clip you just showed. But they weren't doing it the way they were supposed to do it. You got to have a napkin in your hand or a handkerchief in your hand and you got to step with it, right. So there's my rhythmically challenged friends. That was just now shown.
Speaker 3:They're having a good time and that's fine, but there's better ways of stepping to that second line.
Speaker 2:Well, some of us Caucasians just don't have that rhythm. I didn't say you did, I did because I can.
Speaker 1:And I'm one of them.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I've got rhythm. I'm batting 200 on rhythm in my life. Okay, I'm not going to lie. I may rip, I may tear a hamstring sometimes trying to keep up with it. But I'm not going to lie. I may rip, I may tear a hamstring sometimes trying to keep up with it. But you give me a good bourbon, it may come out.
Speaker 3:Hey man, the rule is just to stay in your box right here. Just stay in your box, Stay in the box. It's like that junior high dancing like this. Stay in the box.
Speaker 5:Junior high.
Speaker 2:Junior high dancing to Chicago and Journey. Stay in your box.
Speaker 3:You start doing all this. You're out of the box.
Speaker 2:Stay in the box, but hey if you just keep it, your hands in your arms, in it's golden, but shut up.
Speaker 3:Loosen your shoulders, man you got to go tight. Loosen your shoulders and just Let it go. Loosen your shoulders there you go.
Speaker 2:Unless you're doing the robot man, you can get it all tight, tight. Keep it right, keep it tight, right. How about tonight? Man, this is a big one. Uh, clint small, his son, ed small, from austin anderson, making his debut for tcu. Uh, it says tar hill debut. That's not what I meant. They're playing UNC, tcu and Bill Belichick making his debut. What do you think At in Chapel Hill?
Speaker 3:It's going to be fun to watch. I'm looking forward to watching that tonight. I just don't see Bill Belichick being a good college coach man. I just don't.
Speaker 6:I don't either, I don't, and don't either.
Speaker 3:I don't. We'll see tonight, see if he brings some NFL packages in. I don't know. I'm rooting for TCU, even though my favorite coach in the world, coach Mack Brown, came from UNC to Texas, then went back to UNC. They're all right to me, man. I like UNC. It's a beautiful country up there. But I don't know if Bill Belichick is their answer. This is like a hobby for him.
Speaker 2:He's got a great staff behind the scenes who aren't coaches, the GM of the program. Everything's changing in college athletics. Who knows? I don't know, but Ed Small, running with the twos and the ones. He's going to get a lot of playing time tonight and he's going to be primetime. Chapel Hill, austin's. On Ed Small, one of the best to come over, come out of the Austin Independent School District.
Speaker 3:And alumni of the.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, stories inside the man Cave VIP alumni. Hey, before we pick it up even faster, hey, I've got to give apology to all the University of Houston Cougar alumni and fan base. I honestly thought and I thought, listen, I thought my boys from Nacogdoches, from the Piney Woods, stephen F, austin, would shock the world and upset Houston. Last week, thursday, before the last, this past Thursday, man, houston has a better defense than I thought. Stephen F did a great job defensively, couldn't get much offense going. Houston, my apologies, I'll admit it, I was wrong, but I'm still axing jacks for life. Stephen F lost to you 27-0. And I wish you guys at Houston, I hope you get to a bowl game and compete for the Big 12 championship. How about that, stevie? Is that true? Yeah?
Speaker 3:absolutely so. If you don't score, if Stephen F Austin doesn't score typically Houston or someone that they're playing, or if a defense, if a school doesn't score typically the, the, the the score is way lopsided, right. That means that they did a bunch of three and outs and the defense still tried to hold his own. 27 points is not bad. Holding them to 27 points is not bad when your offense can't do anything. So I see where you're going with it. They probably have a couple more steps, maybe a play or two here, to put some points on the board. It could have been closer than what it really was.
Speaker 2:So that's good, that's good. Analysis by the Stevie Lee Daniel stopped in his tracks.
Speaker 2:You said one, two and zero and uh shad banks is holding up his part of the two-1-0 area code. All right, stevie. The Aggies struggled against Jeff Traylor and the UTSA UT San Antonio Roadrunners. That was a big-time hit on the Aggie running back. You saw that score in the third four-point game and right before that UTSA reeled off a 75-yard touchdown run against the Aggies. All right, aggies are good, they're talented. I still think A&M could be a surprise this year to make a run, the CFP. But before I get your feedback on this, I want you to hear our guy man Cave, vip alumni multiple times, jeff Traylor on his team against the Aggies. Sounds like they've got another chance to run for another conference championship.
Speaker 5:I just wondered how our kids were going to handle it. Then they didn't blink and you could say, well, yeah, because y'all were winning some of the game. I don't know if we were ever winning. We were in the game, whatever you want to say, Not even when they kind of were getting away from us. We never flinched. We've got championship fiber.
Speaker 2:We're about the right stuff you can tell he's Texas high school coach through and through, by the way, stephen F Austin alumni, jeff Traylor Excellent, there you go so do you? Go ahead.
Speaker 3:Well, I was going to say a little bit about that game man. I think UTSA got something special going on down there, man Holding a SEC school in the third quarter. What was it? 17-24?, 21-17. In the third. Man, that's hard, you got some heart out there on that field that believed. Apparently UTSA pulled off. I'm sorry the Aggies pulled away from it at the end, but you know that was hard to just come out there and only being down by four points like that. And the third, you know that had the makings of a big upset for the Aggies' home opener.
Speaker 2:I thought it was going to happen, but I did see a lot of good potential. But these season openers, man, you can't tell a lie, but you can tell a lot on how every team responds in week two, stevie. I want to show you something. For the first time ever ever Division I college football in the Rio Grande Valley. How about that stadium, bro? They converted a soccer stadium a semi-pro hockey soccer stadium into a division. It looked good and it was full.
Speaker 3:Yep, it was.
Speaker 2:You'd be real grand.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's going to be fun to watch and keep in touch with man. That's awesome, all right massive week two matchups.
Speaker 2:We'll start out with this. You may laugh at me, but there's not a lot of big ones this week. In week two, stevie, there's only two, and one of them is up in Norman Oklahoma. That's pretty big 14 and 18, I believe.
Speaker 3:Yeah, who do you got?
Speaker 2:Man. I know what it's like there in Norman. There's a mystique there in Norman and when they finally got a quarterback who can put them in position, they opened up with Illinois State. I think Michigan's good I really do. I don't know how they we'll find out but I really do believe OU finds a way to pull this out and this big rivalry right here. The battle of I-35, dude. Texas State absolutely destroyed Eastern Michigan and we saw what UTSA did. They're going to play in the Alamo Dome. Trailers boys don't lose much at the Alamo Dome. If Texas didn't have a home opener this Saturday, I'd be down in San Antonio.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I was just about to see what time that game is, because I can probably leave our game and go catch their game. What time is it?
Speaker 2:It may be evening If.
Speaker 3:I didn't have a 70th birthday party.
Speaker 2:Shout out to Patty Simon. She's a fellow realtor, a member of your realtor fraternity. She is. It's her 70th birthday, so we're going to be celebrating that night. The upsets. You may think I'm crazy. I went through the list the Baptists versus the Methodists. Smu is obviously ranked. Baylor gave Auburn a fight. I thought Baylor was going to win that one. I'm going to take Baylor in the upset in Dallas.
Speaker 3:Okay, all right, I'm going to disagree, but go ahead.
Speaker 2:Okay, so you're taking the smooth Yep. All right, this is Iowa State's ranked. This is the Cy Hawk Trophy rivalry Iowa versus Iowa State. Iowa's known for great defense. They don't score a lot, but I do think Iowa takes this one in Ames.
Speaker 3:I agree with you.
Speaker 2:All right, the Florida Gators are really good with Lagwit quarterback. However, the University of South Florida they just put it on Boise State, which was ranked, do they upset the Gators at the Swamp?
Speaker 3:No.
Speaker 2:Okay, I'm pulling, I'm going. Usf the mighty Bulls baby.
Speaker 3:Oh, wow.
Speaker 2:Okay, mississippi State. Well, I don't know how good they are. I know how good Arizona State is. They're good, but Mississippi State's at home in Stark Vegas, do they upset the Sun Devils?
Speaker 3:Yes, I got Mississippi State.
Speaker 2:I'll take Arizona State. Whoa. There we go. So before we hit the break, Kendra Scott, you know the queen of the jewelry queen here in Austin, Texas. She's a UT alum Dude. She went balls to the wall, all out, to surprise her son by renovating, remodeling his bedroom. Once you look at the detail, the extent to which she did for her son's birthday present.
Speaker 5:Okay, hold on the eyes of Texas. Are what? No, what did he say?
Speaker 6:That's from the locker room. That is a real From the locker room.
Speaker 5:When is a real locker room. When they redid it, I bought one on auction for you.
Speaker 6:This came out of the Texas Longhorn locker room. This is Arch. Sent this to you for your birthday.
Speaker 3:Wow, that's awesome.
Speaker 2:If you have the resources, why not?
Speaker 3:Why not Absolutely?
Speaker 2:Right out of the Texas Longhorn locker room. Hey, we're going to take a quick break. We've got to give a shout-out to our Hargrove fan, but on the other side, stevie and I in as quickly as we can. I can't wait to hear Stevie's feedback on the Cowboys. Micah Parsons no longer a Cowboy and it's NFL opening week. We'll see you on the other side.
Speaker 6:Here at Hardcore Roofing we try to think outside the box to kind of get the creative juices flowing. So I brought in my friend Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns. He's going to help the team strategize, really motivate them. Light a fire.
Speaker 3:This guy's going to block down. This guy's going to block down. This guy's going to block down. You put your butt into the guard and that way my Mike linebacker gets free to do what.
Speaker 6:Not only are they going to learn a thing or two, but they're going to also leave with a great attitude and a bunch of smiles on their faces.
Speaker 1:I'm sorry. What does this have to do with roofing exactly?
Speaker 3:Get out Right now. I said get out.
Speaker 6:For me, that's what it's all about. It's just having fun making our employees have a great time. Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof.
Speaker 2:Stevie, I'll never forgive you for knocking those papers out of my hands as hard as you did. That was anger.
Speaker 3:A lot of anger right there. It wasn't man, it was just acting.
Speaker 2:I promise you got an Academy Award for that, or a Golden Globe, whatever we. Anyway, it's also NFL regular season opening week. Everybody it will begin the season this week Beginning Thursday. It's the Cowboys and Eagles they usually start, and then on Sunday the Texans are at the Rams First off. I won't go into predicting who's going to win the Super Bowl, but I'd love to hear your reaction to Jerry Jones cutting the cord on Micah Parsons getting two future first-round draft picks and a defensive tackle from Green Bay and Kenny Clark.
Speaker 3:The problem with those future first-round draft picks. Are both of them Green Bay's first-round draft picks or are they one of somebody else's?
Speaker 2:I'm pretty sure that they were Green Bay's, because Green Bay Both Green.
Speaker 3:Bay's. So Green Bay is going to be. With this trade, green Bay is going to be good, so it's going to be late. First round picks, right. So I always wanted Dak and the Cowboys to do well. I always want the Texans to do well, but I have to shift my loyalty, man. I can't do this whole Jerry Jones and Rick and Ramone right now. Man, that was actually terrible. First of all, we know that you make deals with the agent involved and not pulling in david moogiletta, uh to help.
Speaker 2:Well done on that yeah, to help.
Speaker 3:Uh, we went to college together, really, yeah, he went to texas and then he went up to nebraska to go to law school and then a lot of my clients are his clients. So we've done some work together. In fact, I closed him. I closed him. He had a house in Austin and I helped him out.
Speaker 3:Anyway, I know him, but for him to blackball him basically and not get him involved in the negotiations him basically, and not get him involved in the negotiations I think Micah wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy, but the way Jerry handled this whole situation, I don't like it.
Speaker 3:It stinks to me, man, it really really does. I wanted him to be a cowboy, but to let someone go with that type of talent, um, and without paying him what he was just asking for, right, um, it's, it's, it was. It turned me off to the gals cowboys and I wasn't turned on to them, but it turned me off to where I want to root against them. I'm not lying, it's just like dude. He's asking for what's fair, that's all. He wants to be the highest paid defensive player because he's the best defensive player in the league. David went out there and found the best deal for his client and I don't know why the Cowboys ego got in the way of keeping a generational talent, just the same way the Dallas Mavericks did with Luka. It's a Dallas problem right now. Dallas is going through a pandemic right now.
Speaker 2:Our TikTok in the man cave. You see some wild stuff. I've seen more since I've been adding content, so you know iguanas are fun lizards. They're good pets, but did you know that their tail is quite dangerous? Did you know that? Did not well, we're gonna learn right now I did not know that. Dude, that tail was like a whip.
Speaker 3:I did not know that. Well, thanks for letting me know. I will stay away.
Speaker 2:Don't piss off an iguana.
Speaker 3:Yeah, man.
Speaker 2:That's worth another look.
Speaker 3:Look at this, Watch it hey that's a good-looking iguana, by the way. Yeah, he got an instant welt on his back.
Speaker 2:Easy and that on his thighs and it may have shredded his ACL. Ah, the guy kept going back for more.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, not very smart. Hey, man tell me something good, not very smart.
Speaker 2:Hey, man, tell me something good, Stevie. A lot in this negative world, a lot to be thankful for. But, man, I know we started football. It's so easy to say hey, football season and tailgating and all that, but tell me something good in your world that maybe will inspire or put a smile on everyone's face as we close out Episode 476.
Speaker 3:Something good is I flew my daughter in this weekend from college. This is the first time coming home from college and we had a really really good time. Just put her on a plane to go back to Kansas City. She's on her way back flying in the air right now. It was a fun weekend with them. It was my wife's birthday and we had a really really good time in Houston and then we came back home and finished off the weekend here in the Austin area. So that was something good for us. But the next thing that's something good in the future is it's a home game. It's a home game at DKR, where all my friends are going to be there and drinking and having a good time. We're going to be under the shade tree with Todd Hunt at the best damn tailgate on the 49ers the Todd Tour.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and we're going to do the Todd Tour. Man, I just can't wait. It's going to be hot. It is what it is, guys. It's just going to be hot, all right, but we're going to go out there and have a good old time and be careful, drink responsibly, do all the things and keep safe out there. It's going to be hot, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. But I'm so looking forward to this home game, man, I can't wait.
Speaker 2:I'll see you at 9 am Saturday.
Speaker 3:Oh man.
Speaker 2:I may get there at 8.30, though.
Speaker 3:No question, that's awesome. But, man, I'm really, really looking forward to that. I'm really giddy about that. I just want to get this work week out of the way and hang out with my friends.
Speaker 2:I can't wait to see you. And we got to get you know. Norman rolls up at his own, at his own face. You never know. Yeah, it's funny, norman's Norman walking. Hey, don't tell him a time. Yeah, it's on, norman, time it's on.
Speaker 3:Norman time You'll be upset with him, but when he shows up with that smile, I can't be mad at you, can't be mad at him anymore.
Speaker 2:We love norm. I'm good man and that I know it's something else is good, just all the relationships we've. We've we've had because of tailgating. We get to see our dkr family again and everybody, wherever you, whatever stadium you go to, that is a true fun. Endless memories, friends for life. Type of family it is. Enjoy it, man. College football is a different thing and it's beautiful and you just can't replace it.
Speaker 2:And shout out to Stevie's better half, summer Lee Happy birthday to her, celebrating 38 and a half again. She's doing great man ATX power couple. So for the birthday girl, summer Lee, and Stevie Lee and his beautiful family in the great city of Shreveport, louisiana, and the Hargrove family in Shreveport, shout out to you guys Much love for being as supportive as you are to all of our sponsors. Shout out to the city of my college alma mater, nacogdoches, texas, and to my beautiful hometown, austin, texas, and to Jim Saxton State Farm, longhorn, legacy, pride of Westlake, texas, and to the OG man Cave Boys, that being Hardball Harge, big Mike and Neco Chmo. What do we tell them, stevie Lee?
Speaker 3:We out.
Speaker 6:You see the drip and I'm fitted up.
Speaker 3:I'm in my car in a Gideon. I said get out. Thanks for watching.
