SPEAKER_05:

And that is just a sample of what Longhorn football fans have to look forward to and anticipate with the addition of Cam Coleman. Longhorn basic. Take a deep breath, a sigh of relief. Your Transcore Portal Class fills almost all the holes as UT is still, along with other programs, is still trying to plug and match uh their needs, what they need to fill before the 2026 season. I am Sean Flints, the host of Stories Inside the Man C podcast, and the co-host with well of The Praps Rush with Stevie Lee. We are gonna dive deeply into what has been a stressful, comical, anxiety-induced transfer portal season. And our guy Mike Adams, the playmaker, will join us, and he has his own transfer portal story involving his family. Before we get rolling with episode 506, I definitely want to give a shout-out to my guy Dave Ramirez.

SPEAKER_07:

Man, just had a had a long day of work, but fun day today. I went and worked out with you, man. I went and worked out with my friend uh Tori Becton, who is the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Texas. And um I'm I told him to take it easy on me because I don't lift heavy things anymore. Uh, all I do is sell real estate and I pay somebody to hook to roll my wheelbarrow, but he he wasn't listening. He made me do heavyweights, and um I'm gonna sleep very well tonight. Let's put it like that.

SPEAKER_05:

You're gonna have to have summer to give you that full body massage tomorrow because uh that that pain, that lactic acid will be burning up. You know what it was like back on the second the the I think by day two after an intense workout is when uh all that pain. Man, you got to get a foam roller, go get some steam treatment, let it rise.

SPEAKER_08:

Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_05:

Hey, before we get going, hey, be sure to follow us on each of our social media platforms, Facebook IGX and TikTok, and be sure to click the subscribe button on our YouTube page. And by the way, when I say subscribe, I say that uh uh lightly because it's free. That's beautiful. Hey, before we truly get going, Stevie, I do want to say uh positive thoughts always in prayers for Jordan Shipley and his family. Jordan, you're probably full aware of the story. Was out on one of their ranches working, and one of their pieces of equipment caught fire, and uh that's gonna be a long-term uh recovery. Um, I you know, I know that you and I both are connected to the Shipley, especially Coach Bob and Jackson. Uh, that is a wonderful family, and you hate this something like this that's tragic to happen to anybody, but anything else you want to add to that as well?

SPEAKER_07:

No, so uh Bob has been real close to me whenever I want to go to practice to see. Well, back in the day when he was uh on staff over there, whenever I want to go to practice, I had shoot Bob at Tex, and uh we became friends over the years. Um uh I really like the the Shipley family because they're just um genuine people, uh good people, um, and hard working, right? So um, yeah, it was tough to see uh what had happened to Jordan, but um how do I put this? If anybody can come through this, it's Jordan with his faith and his family, um and the community behind him, he'll be he's he's gonna be okay.

SPEAKER_05:

Yeah, he is, he is, and uh we hated it. Um, but he's already provided somewhat of a miracle, the burns were bad enough, but uh I know he has multiple physicians and specialists, and they had already said, like, hey, this the miracles and prayers are already working on him. So much love to the ship, as we're all thinking of you 100. All right, buddy, transfer portal season winding down. And just before we get uh really into this, uh, we apologize to playmaker Mike Adams. When you work in uh school administration, sometimes uh anything involving the kids, the students, uh anything that comes up, you've got to work. It's their job, their responsibility. And MA will be on with us hopefully next week, and we'll be talking about a lot of things, including this. Uh so we're we're Mike Adams, you're missed tonight, by the way. But we got we got a good thing going and we're gonna we're gonna fill in nicely for him. So uh the portal window opened January 2nd, and it it closes soon this week. Um briefly, how do you sum up this portal season? Because it's taken on uh a personality of its own.

SPEAKER_07:

Um ups and downs. Yeah, so we we were getting um beat out from by other teams earlier on in the uh portal season, and then we had some huge wins at the end, right? So right now we're having some huge wins. I do think we need to get a couple more uh offensive linemen, maybe a DB uh somewhere. But um right now the offense is gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun to watch. Man, we got uh um how many running backs did we get out of the portal? Just one oh we got two, right? And we got the kid coming from Florida that's a fresh that's gonna be a freshman. Um, I really like him as well. So I'm looking forward to seeing uh uh um Hollywood, uh great name by the way. Yeah, and I uh I'm looking forward to seeing uh uh deep balls going deep with Cam Coleman, right? And um, and then taking some pressure off of um Wingo and um and so having uh two maybe three back, um three running backs in our arsenal uh that people have to account for can open up the deep ball or balls coming across the middle and things like that. So I'm really looking forward to what Sartre can do with the weapons that he's gonna have on offense. Again, we got one offensive lineman who's a good one. That's a good uh pickup, but from Oregon State, yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

Uh Dylan Sisk Sikorsky, Sikorsky. It's yeah, we need to get the phonetics. I think I think we said it properly. We just I just get a little stuttery, yeah.

SPEAKER_07:

Sikorsky.

SPEAKER_05:

There you go.

SPEAKER_07:

That's not a great something like that. Yeah, let's just call him Dylan for right now. But uh, but uh, I think that we just need to get uh maybe one or two more off of the linemen. Really excited about the DTs. Uh one kid I hear is what six six four six. I'm sorry, six five, six, six, three hundred and eighty pounds. Large humans, large humans. So the last time we had a big, large human like that, he won the uh what is the outland trophy? Yeah, you sure did. Travendre sweat. So um, yeah. So hey man, let's do it again, recreate it, and uh, and under a Will Muschamp scheme. So um let's let's see that, man. Uh uh Travandre did it under um under PK, uh, which PK was a great uh defensive coordinator for us. Uh but I think that we uh no disrespect, but I think we also upgraded our defensive uh coaching staff. So um I'm looking I'm really looking forward to that. Uh I haven't had a chance to see Rasheen Bowes or Justin Craig Cryer um play much, but I'm looking forward to looking at looking at the linebackers. I'm probably gonna be at spring ball all um all spring whenever they uh go out to put on the pads, man, because I'm really looking forward to seeing all these weapons. College football has changed so much, man. So the people that we have seen on other teams are now on my team that I can go and see and watch and see them develop and see how they mesh together. It's gonna be fantastic to watch, man. It's gonna be fun.

SPEAKER_05:

No, it's it's so it is gonna be fun, and I think all of us are adapting, acclimating, uh, because portal season has taken on its own personality. I mean, it is it's funny to watch, you know, especially on social media, the fan base. You saw all of the I'll say this you saw everyone who entered the portal, and you hate to lose some a lot of those guys, like, but it's happened across the country. Yeah, um, the running back Christian Clark, after he had a great game in the uh Citrus Bowl against Michigan, a hundred plus yard game, and then he's entering the portal. But my my word of advice to that to everybody, if you look at what has happened here with the folks that transferred in from the portal, the number one recruiting class, portal recruiting class, the the folks that are leaving or have left for Texas or any other program, when when they leave abruptly like that, I think it's a mirror image of what's about to happen. Because look at this class. I mean, Hollywood Smothers is from North Carolina State, Raleigh Brown from Arizona State, quick twitch guy. He you if you miss him in space, he's gone. Um the one that I think that a lot of people aren't talking about is the cornerback Bo Masco from Rutgers, big 10 football. Um, I think he fits right in with the DBU mentality of Texas, and what Will Muschamp likes to leave those those corners on an island. Um, and to your point, the two defensive tackles, Ian Griffard and Zion Williams. The Zion Williams from LSU, but he's from the older state power Lufkin in East Texas. He's East Texas built, strong, big, body, okay, uh run stopper. And you kind of went on about it. And he's it's comparable to Tavandre, who's also an East Texas product from Huntsville. But this is Rasheem Biles from Pitt. I saw a little bit of video, almost went old school and said I saw some take, but these are fast. It's a fast physical group on defense, and then you look at this offense, man. Um, another great tight end. And you mentioned Cam Coleman was the icing on the cake. You needed that, so the people who transferred what appeared to be abruptly. I think now they were told who they were going to bring in. It's a direct reflection of who's coming in when you see that many people leaving. That's just my opinion. Yeah, it just takes a little more time than people would like.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah, let's uh let me uh expand on something a little bit more. You know, people saying that we uh we lost what 19 people into the into the portal. Yeah, 21 people into the portal, but we only bring it in this amount, right? Right. So so uh NCAA gave us what 115 uh scholarship athletes now.

SPEAKER_05:

No, it's it went goes from 85. You can go up to 105, but I don't think I need to look at the numbers. I don't think Texas is at 85.

SPEAKER_07:

Okay, so exactly. So so I think schools um need to reevaluate what's on their roster, right? Yep, because just about every player is getting some kind of money on the team, right? And then uh when coaches is is has his headset on, he's uh has his clipboard and everything, and coaching the game, you also got to turn kind of turn around, not during the game, this is you know, figuratively speaking, turn around and see how much money you just got sitting on the bench, right? And so um, if you really want to go after a couple of Cam Coleman's and a couple of Hollywoods and a couple of Zion's, you got to find the money for these guys nowadays. And if you got you know six guys sitting on the bench that hadn't even touched the field or even not even gonna sniff the field, making 150 grand, why are they on your team? You know, when you can go and get take you know two or three guys, four or five guys, and go get one guy that's gonna actually gonna touch the field, you know. So that that's uh that's an algorithm that some schools is gonna have to figure out, figure out fast. How many people do you actually need on your sideline to free up some money for some big names that you really really need?

SPEAKER_05:

No, that's that's a good take. Yeah, so essentially what you're saying is it is similar to an NFL roster, no question, and you you you've got to get a return on investment on players because essentially, you know, we're talking about the 21 million dollars that's available for revenue share across the athletic men's and women's athletics, yeah. Um I don't I may be wrong, but I don't think you're gonna see ever maybe never 105 people on scholarship. I just don't, yeah, and because you can't you can't afford that, you can't. I mean, I I I what if Texas only has 80 or below the 85 scholarship limits that's been in place for a long time, yeah. Because people are gonna go where they get paid, period.

SPEAKER_07:

Or do what the NFL does and do a 53-man roster plus 10. Yeah, you know, yeah, um that could happen too, man. And then you have nothing but superstars on your team that are uh making a lot of money, but then also you'll have a bunch of turnover on your team as well, because most of those guys are gonna be like gonna be here for one year and then they go, you know. So and uh, but you know, we don't know where college football is gonna go and and where where they're thinking, um, it's just it's hard to tell right now, but that's a way where you can free up some money, especially for universities that are money strapped, you know. Um look at your roster, see who's on your roster, and say, hmm, yeah, we can get rid of these these four or five guys to free up some more money. That was my take on it.

SPEAKER_05:

No, that's good. And it's evolving every year, it is, and it has, and people quickly forget that that it it's with a college football playoff NIL, and now revenue sharing, it's moving quickly every year, every every year is changing. So, one last note on the portal, and to what Stevie just said. Um I'm not gonna call it slotted money, but there's one last target, or maybe one last big target. I may be wrong, there may be three or four more, but this guy, Jordan Seaton, big offensive lineman, the number one offensive lineman in the country, he's playing for the Colorado Buffaloes and Deion Sanders. Texas is trying to get him, and that would be ideal. But the problem is his valuation from what I know is in the millions. More than a million.

SPEAKER_07:

Really? For an old lineman. Reportedly, yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

But O linemen are that's your most vital piece. You can't do anything with all those playmakers if you don't have a good old line, and that's uh that's another wrinkle in this whole thing, right?

SPEAKER_07:

So the the hardest position to play right out of high school is O-line and D-line. Yeah, because um it takes strength to do those positions, right? Footwork, footwork and strength, and so uh kids coming out of high school typically don't have the enough strength because contrary to popular belief, this uh this game in this level is much faster, and the guys are much stronger. So it typically takes a kid uh on those on the line a year to get strong enough to play on the offensive line and D-line.

SPEAKER_05:

Minimum.

SPEAKER_07:

So you want to go to the portal and get the experienced guys to come and play on your offensive line or D-line. They develop someone else, you know, and and we and the kids that we get out of high school on the O-line and D-line, let them let them develop, let them develop here in college, get really, really strong that first year, and then they can actually play. But for now, um, going to get some kids out of the portal is pretty uh important on the O line and D line.

SPEAKER_05:

It's extremely important, and one last comment on that. Um, this is gonna be this is gonna be the norm every year. So, fans traditionals like me, we've got to adapt this and and uh and embrace this. This is what it's gonna be like every year, and you've got to have a good combination of high school, high school signees and portal guys, and be ready to have those tough conversations that are going. Be had that hey, this is what you think you want. Evaluation NIL. This is where you are in this program. We're going to develop you, but you might want to enter that portal for what your goals are, and it's going to happen every year. Stevie, it's the final week of the college football season. It's national championship week.

SPEAKER_01:

Come on, we're going. I played for three national championships. We won one. We lost two. Can't wait for them. So proud of them, by the way. I'm so proud of Mario Crystal Ball, the work he's doing. That was my teammate when we were back there. We won national championships together. So I can't wait to watch the game. I'm proud of my boys.

SPEAKER_05:

The Rock. The Rock says the Canes are back.

SPEAKER_04:

That's pretty weak.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah. No, he's um he's not wrong, man. I'm I'm looking forward to seeing this game. Um, I'll let you know what I think later.

SPEAKER_05:

Yeah. Well, here's one stat, man. I I this is why all relative to what we just talked about. The portal is everything right now, as far as getting that healthy combination of experience, youth, and to compete for these championships. Check out this stat. This is Indiana has 47 players ages 22 to 25.

SPEAKER_07:

Wow. Yes. Wow. That's an old team.

SPEAKER_05:

That's an old team.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah. 25?

SPEAKER_05:

22 to 25. Those are guys with extra years of eligibility, portal, everything.

SPEAKER_07:

Wow.

SPEAKER_05:

So if you develop them right and you get the right guys for your system, hey, you cannot substitute experience.

SPEAKER_07:

No question.

SPEAKER_05:

Isn't that wild?

SPEAKER_07:

That's wild. 25, man. That's you know, you're almost a 30 and playing college football. Get two or three degrees. Yeah, man.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

Some of these kids may get the PhD and then enter enter the NFL.

SPEAKER_07:

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05:

There's only 140 guys in the NFL ages 21 and 22.

SPEAKER_07:

Nah.

SPEAKER_05:

Look at that comparison.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah, that's crazy.

SPEAKER_05:

It just puts it in perspective, man. I mean, it really does. So I've got to ask, man. It's we're we're here. The CFP, the final game, regardless of what people thought about the two groups of five, group of five teams. We're already through this. Here we are. In Miami. Miami playing on their designated home field. Hard Rock Stadium. Storybook. You got two storybook programs of seasons. And it's hard to pick because this is definitely not what anyone picked.

SPEAKER_07:

I don't think it's hard to pick.

SPEAKER_05:

I don't think anybody picked this.

SPEAKER_07:

Well, no, and then no one picked this the way we got here, but I don't think it's hard to pick the champion.

SPEAKER_05:

Well, why don't we just go ahead and do it? The Hoosiers. Who's gonna end up in that little box on the bottom? The Hoosiers or the U Monday night?

SPEAKER_07:

Are you asking me now?

SPEAKER_05:

Go ahead.

SPEAKER_07:

I got the who's yours. Who? Who? Who? Who's yours?

SPEAKER_05:

So fun fact. University of Indiana has the most alumni. Over 800,000 alumni. Really? Mind mind blowing if you ask me. Yeah, absolutely. Is it because they're academic you can get in, or acceptance rate's a little higher, or what are we talking about here? Yes.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah. I don't know, man. That that's a little weird to me. I thought that the University of Texas had the most students on campus. Um, but maybe um a lot of ours don't get all the way through the university. And if you can get into Indiana, you're gonna finish Indiana.

SPEAKER_05:

Sounds like it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Ohio State's up there too. Um but and then UT has kind of scaled back a little bit. Um, but it this is I think this is great for college football, if you ask me. Two great stories. And old old blue blood has been awakened in Indiana out of nowhere, and all the great stories of uh former our IU alumni talking about the days of staying till halftime because they're usually losing, and they go back out and tailgate the rest of the way, and then talking about the environment at their stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, how special it is. So I I think it's great. I and it's good to see someone new and Signeti. He's just what did he say? Google me. I win everywhere he's been, and he's getting money, he's getting paid now. Why would he leave? Yep, that's real nice.

SPEAKER_00:

It's a family, it's a group. Um, just trusting in God, uh, putting God first, everybody licking up and everybody not not separated. Uh just stand down to the ground.

SPEAKER_05:

That was Woody Marks 112 yards rushing in a game that was not a blowout until late, 30 to 6. They beat Eliminate Pittsburgh. It was the the franchise as the Texans their first road playoff win, and then Mike Tomlin, after 19 years, steps down as head coach today.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah, um, the score does not reflect how close the game really was. Um, I was watching it uh last night, and I want I really now want the Texans to do well, but they got to get their offense into rhythm earlier in the game because you come up with a to a team that's um that's got uh the Texans defense figured out, they're gonna need their offense to put some points on the board. Now, that Texans defense is nasty, nasty, nasty. Aaron Rodgers was pissed all night, and um, it was fun to watch them, fun to see D'Amico Ryan. It was fun to see, and funny to see that um uh the broadcasters put up a play where D'Amico Ryan has sacked Aaron Rodgers when he was playing at Green Bay, right? And I thought that that was hilarious that he's now coaching against him and and and calling up plays where his players are getting sacks on Aaron Rodgers. So um this guy's eating against Aaron Rodgers in the and when he was playing and eating against for Aaron Rodgers while he's coaching. So this is good. This is cool.

SPEAKER_05:

No, it's really cool, and it's uh maybe Aaron Rodgers calls it a career soon. I mean, it's it's gotta be close. Uh it has to be. I listen, I can't root for any team in Houston, but I will say this that Texans defense is fun to watch. I wish them well, I just can't do it. Come on, man. I'm a Cowboys guy that's been uh not emotionally invested for three years because I'm smart. Uh so they'll take on the the Patriots. Is there any other matchup coming up about the playoffs that you're looking forward to?

SPEAKER_07:

Uh, who is San Francisco playing? Because uh, you know, my old teammate Kyle Shanahan.

SPEAKER_05:

Yeah, Shanahan Shanahan.

SPEAKER_07:

I was gonna do well.

SPEAKER_05:

Let's see, man. I'm gonna I I I should have had these memorized, but I don't. Playoff matchups, man. It's oh my god. We got Bills, Broncos, 49ers, Seahawks, 40 the Seahawks, 14-game winners this year. Texans will be uh at the Patriots, and then Rams and Bears. So that's where we stand.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah, I'm looking forward to um the 49ers. Who you say they're playing? Not the Patriots.

SPEAKER_05:

Um 49ers are playing those at Seattle. That's yep, Tess Sawyer's back. Uh, episodes called She Calls It Quick Fast Takes. And uh the next episode will be Saturday morning, tentatively at 10 a.m. You can find that live stream on our Facebook page, uh, X slash Twitter, and on our YouTube page. It'll be the second installment of She Cause It. Uh, and it's brought to you by Spirit Dress, the owner of Mercer Black, uh, Austin Native, and UT Alum of SpiritDress.com. Go visit there, find whatever it's beautiful, it's attire for all fan bases and support spiritdress.com. Stevie, I got a little, I want you to this is one of my favorite segments. We don't have an opportunity to do it too often, but we love photos around here.

SPEAKER_04:

All right, Stevie, what do you see here?

SPEAKER_07:

I see a turkey crossing the road.

SPEAKER_05:

That's it. So caption this. This is the area I live in, Northwest Hills. This turkey has become an icon. It's been around, it holds up traffic, everyone loves her. Uh, Texas Parks and Wildlife taking a visit right there. It looks like she was gonna help herself into the cab of the truck or the SUV. Um, but she you the the law is you can't you can't capture these, you can't you just can't. It's a wild bird, they're native to this area. She's got two names, one of which is Margo, and she's an icon of Northwest Hills. So, what would be your caption for Margo, the Northwest Hills Turkey?

SPEAKER_07:

Oh, hey, Margo, you're under arrest for jaywalking.

SPEAKER_05:

I like that. Hey, uh hey, I survived Thanksgiving.

SPEAKER_07:

Ah, there you go. Uh, on the one uh to the left in front of the car is like one more year, bitches.

SPEAKER_05:

Yeah, one more year, beat us. Love it, love it, man. Margo, she's loved around here. She's a fine American, she's a beautiful bird, beautiful bird. Hey, on the other side, we've got uh of this break. We're gonna take a quick one and watch Stevie Lee act a little bit, and and then we're gonna come back with TikToking the man cave practical jokes. Man, you know us guys, we never grow up. We'll see you on the other side of this break.

SPEAKER_06:

Hi, I'm Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the University of Texas. And I'm Cloud Hargrove, I'm a roofer. Also saw action in 52 games, and I fixed a lot of roofs. Also won a Rose Bowl and never lost the AM. And I uh fixed a lot of roofs, right, Stevie? Oh, right. I'm sorry, I zoned out a little bit. So are you gonna say the thing about Hargrove Roofing? Hargrove Roofing. Know who's on your roof. Is this even gonna work as a commercial?

SPEAKER_05:

Hi, this is Sean Clintz, the host of stores inside the Medkake Podcast. And if you're like me and you believe in honesty and quality work, well, if you're ever in need of HVAC repair or plumbing need, give our friends and family an honest plumbing and air a call, or just simply visit the website right there on the lower left-hand side of your screen. Honestair, distance.

SPEAKER_02:

JJ got CEO of the Austin Game Alert. Segment two, stories inside the main game is next.

SPEAKER_05:

The the male gender.

SPEAKER_07:

Um that's right.

SPEAKER_05:

That's why insurance policies are sky high. Still trying to do trying, still still trying to test if we have that balancing ability like those gentlemen. Uh, that was absolutely hilarious on milk crates, and he stacked them up like a milk, uh, uh what do you call it? Like a pyramid, yeah, zero balance. Even young buck got to the stop, and his old ankle started rocking.

SPEAKER_04:

Hey Ben, tell me something good.

SPEAKER_05:

All right, brother. We love positivity, and Stevie Lee is the king of positivity. Tell me something good, my brother.

SPEAKER_07:

I'm gonna keep it back to what we talked about earlier, man. I'm really smiling about our portal choices and what's going on in the portal. Uh now, asked me last week. I was really upset what was going on in the portal, right?

SPEAKER_08:

Everybody was.

SPEAKER_07:

Yeah. Now I'm pretty happy. I'm pretty uh stoked about what's going on over there at um at uh at uh what is it, Mun Creek New House uh building. Um that's the building that the football is housed in for people that don't know. But um, I'm pretty stoked about it, man. It's it's gonna be fun, a fun season. Uh it's gonna be a fun spring. Uh hopefully they put on a good show for us for spring pre for the spring game. But uh for spring practice, I'm gonna be out there. Um and I'm gonna be taking notes. So stay tuned.

SPEAKER_05:

Hey, that's a good one. Solid take per the usual from the Stevie Lee. Uh, I'll just keep it quick. Um man, this is it's been fun always when we uh college football is almost year-round as far as staying in the news cycle. It is a lot of fun. Um, and I love seeing programs build, uh, and that's the story of life in general. We should always be looking to add pieces to our life. Look at me going uh poetic again and going deep, but yeah, I think the transfer portal, this may be going a little too deep, but always be looking to look at ourselves and figure out what do we need to add to what can we do to ourselves to be a better human in this day and age where there's so many things going around, um, and across the world, and that's another reason why I have kind of stepped away from social media, too much negativity, just worried about ourselves and our significant others and our group of friends and brothers and sisters, and show love and get better. How can we contribute more to society? Stevie Lee, much love and much love to you, the viewer and listener and the supporter of Stories Inside the Man Cave Podcast, and to the great city of Shreveport, the home of Stevie Lee, and the home of Hardgrove Roofing. How do we say it, Stevie Lee?

SPEAKER_07:

Hardgrove roofing. Know who's on your roof.

SPEAKER_05:
