OKC, SGA, And The Flop Talk

SPEAKER_08

I'm a huge fan of OK City and I think they'll get it done in the day.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, so let's go to SGA and Oklahoma City. Yeah, they could close the series out. How do we think about their matchup? Because DraftKings feels like Oklahoma City's favorite.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I think it'd be it'd be kind of cool to see just because if SGA and Brunson flop at the same time, what happens? Just joking. But some of the stuff from last night was ridiculous. Like the entire turnover debacle and the free throw thing, like I do think there's some there's a conversation to be had, but also at the same time, when you do watch the entire game, it's like he is getting fouled on some of these plays. Like you can't just point guard with ball. Yeah, point guard with ball, who is very good at at going left, going right. Like it's it's hard to guard him.

SPEAKER_10

So many people were talking about and watching this Western Conference Finals series in the NBA who normally don't watch the NBA on a regular basis. I'm talking about the casual viewers, which is a great thing. That means there is a lot of interest generated from the storylines between the Spurs and the Thunder so far through five games. Both teams have split games in both OKC and San Antonio. OKC won games two and three, and San Antonio won games one and number four. Of course, this past game five and Tuesday in Oklahoma City, the Thunder won that one 127 to 114. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks on the eastern half of the bracket, the Eastern Conference, they're just sitting cool, calm, collected, rested, just waiting to see who they will face in the NBA finals. The Knicks have made it to the finals for the first time since 1999. But nobody's talking about the Knicks. It is Spurs, thunder, people talking about flopping, the fouls, the egregious officiating, if you will. I beg to differ. Because people who have been watching the NBA, the game itself for so long throughout the regular season, this is part of the NBA. And as a primer before tonight's game six in San Antonio, we're gonna talk about the flopping, the quote, egregious officiating.

Series Stakes And Game 6 Pressure

SPEAKER_10

Both fan bases have something to say. Let's talk about it. Okay, before we dive into this layer by layer, be sure to follow us on each of our social media platforms. That being Facebook IGX. Subscribe for free on YouTube and of course our TikTok page. All right, I I love this flopping fouls and the free throw narrative. It has been something that has been viral. Everyone's talking about it. What I mean by casual viewer, I'm not taking a shot at people who are just now tuning in. I think it's great for the NBA. I think it's great for the game that these two young teams, the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs, getting back to how that uh franchise was built upon, winning all those championships that San Antonio has. Um you could go down the list. There are so many narratives that are going on. Of course, OKC for the seventh time in their franchise history to win a game five whenever their playoff series was tied 2-2. And that's just it does not guarantee them the series victory. You still got to play this game. Tonight's game, pressure packed. More pressure on San Antonio, they're at home, and they lose, the season's over. Oklahoma City wins, they go to the NBA finals again.

SPEAKER_01

Austin's heat is hard on AC systems, and they break down at the worst possible times. Most AC failures we see could have been prevented with a system tune-up. So if you're worried your old AC won't make it through summer, get ahead of the problem. At Honest, our professional AC tune-up is only $99. It comes back by our no-breakdown guarantee. Only $99. So your system works better and lasts longer. For AC and plumbing repair, you can trust. Call Honest.

Fouls And Free Throws By The Numbers

SPEAKER_10

All right, statistical evidence. Of course, OKC leads this series. It's an elimination game, perhaps, tonight for San Antonio. But everyone talks about how the Thunder being they're being called a villain. Well, let's break this down. Oklahoma City has been called for more fouls than the Spurs. 117 to 112. That's 229 fouls, which have been committed through five games of this Western Conference Final Series. Now, the big one. I get it. They everyone believes SGA, She Gilders Alexander, just the officials are on his side. The officials are wearing Thunder uniforms. They're not. The Spurs have been through to the charity stripe 11 more times than the Thunder. 143 to 132 in free throw attempts. Now think to yourself, explain that narrative to me that the Thunder are receiving all the breaks. And that young Spurs team, they have thrown out some aggressive defensive combinations. But listen to this stat. They have held the two-time NBA MVP, Shea Gildis Alexander, to 26.2 points per game in the first five games of this series and held him to 38.8% field goal percentage. That's extremely low for him. That means the Spurs are getting into him. We saw that in game one in that double overtime game. So the Spurs have really done a good job of the mastery of the defensive combinations, and the coaching has been phenomenal as well. But there's also this narrative that has been cast that the Thunder are the villain. Everybody hates the Thunder, it seems like.

SPEAKER_14

But if we're going to talk about the free throws, let's talk about it. Shea doesn't lead the NBA in free throw attempts.

Clips, Agendas, And The Villain Label

SPEAKER_14

Luka Doncic does. Hell, Denny Abby shoots more free throws than Shea Gilgis Alexander. And let me give you a history lesson really quickly. Great players go to the free throw line a lot. Kobe Bryant had a three-year stretch where he went to the free throw line 10 plus times a game.

SPEAKER_02

The boys are good. They are smart. They play to their strengths. And they understand the same. I understood then. When you get in the penalty, they're going downhill at a fast rate. And all bumps, they're gonna exaggerate.

SPEAKER_11

They should not exist. They they they were a team that was stolen from Seattle. They the entire franchise should not exist, it should be back in Seattle.

SPEAKER_00

I don't like the discourse going around it because a lot of people aren't watching these games and aren't seeing these fouls. But because there's so much agenda against OKC, everybody's just posting these clips of OKC doing things. In reality, both teams are getting away with a lot.

SPEAKER_13

We are all hopping on the Spurs bandwagon. Because if we allow SGA to get another ring, the amount of 13-year-olds that are gonna come talk to me about how SGA is the GOAT, I'm gonna lose my mind.

SPEAKER_12

Can we just talk about how Stefan Castle two-handed pushed Jalen Williams, and that is probably how he hurt his hamstring? Here is the video right here, so you can see it. If you are wondering, they did not call a foul on that play.

SPEAKER_10

Oh, the opinions they go both sides. I love it because everyone's talking about it, and it brings more eyeballs to the NBA. And I let's be honest, most people start watching in the playoffs because it is a long season, 82 games.

Why This Matchup Feels Personal

SPEAKER_10

But this is for the viewers here more than likely because this is a regional matchup. Uh, here in Austin, Texas, there are a lot of Spurs fans. I grew up watching the Spurs. I respect the organization. Uh, when I lived and worked in the media in Oklahoma City, uh, I did something that I told myself I would never do, and that is pretty much fall in love and follow a team, become a fan of a team that I followed. I did fall in love with the Thunder since States because they arrived my second year or third year in Oklahoma City, and I was there for the 2012 NBA finals. Then I bounced and took the job at K-View in Austin. Uh, but it I do, and and Sam Presty, the leader GM of the Thunder. Well, he was an understudy, worked for the Spurs. So two teams simply constructed and managed the same way. Now you saw uh Stefan Castle mentioned in there, and you know, the the other the J dub, there's two Jalen Williams who play for the Thunder. Uh J Dub is injured and it's probably not going to play tonight, but I don't know that. But you know, Stefan Castle was asked about after this past game five, of why maybe they struggled in that game.

Castle’s Quote And Physicality Debate

SPEAKER_10

Well, he kind of gave an answer that well, you you tell me. Everyone has an opinion, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but it was kind of directed upon maybe how the game has been officiated.

SPEAKER_04

Uh, I just think with the way they guard how physical they are, um, we don't get that same luxury to be able to play as physical on the other end at times, but uh offensively I think we do a good job of screening and and playing through it. So I think we create a lot of advantages, but I think we just missed a lot of open shots tonight.

SPEAKER_10

Okay, so Castle, phenomenal young player for the Spurs. The Spurs are going to be in this position, in my opinion, maybe the next five to ten years, and for guys like Stefan Castle. Both teams have thrown the their best defenses and have really just disrupted a lot of what each team tries to do. That's what makes this game tonight, game six, so fascinating and intriguing. Of

Wembanyama’s Burden And Caruso’s Value

SPEAKER_10

what could they possibly do? Each team, how are they gonna defend each other? Now we know Victor Wimbayana uh he has got to play better. He is by far the best player on the floor, at least for San Antonio. Um could have won the MVP. It was right there between he and SGA. But Wimbayana, he has to play better for the Spurs tonight. As for the Thunder. All the talk about SGA. He is the leader of that team. But you know who I think should be the MVP of this series if the Thunder win tonight, or even in a game six, seven, and decisive game, it's gotta be Alex Caruso, and that's another guy that so many fans who are not Thunder fans can't stand him. That's because he does everything defensively, comes off the bench, and I honestly feel like he would be the MVP of this series, averaging seven points per game. And SGA, he was asked about that, and he agrees.

SPEAKER_03

AC isn't like some uber talented guy, like he's not some guy that's 6'7 with a 7-3 wingspan and shoots lights out, like but he he is one of the not the best competitor in the NBA, like night in and night out. Um, and he wears that and he he sets that tone for us as a group.

SPEAKER_10

So you heard that SGA you championship teams, and you go back even to the great Bulls dynasty, they had those types of players, multiple types of those players, Caruso type players who do everything on the floor, score, create turnovers, and really, despite his uh size, he will be the enforcer. Like uh, there's players for hockey. You have certain players to go agitate the other team's best players. Caruso is that, but he's well on the other side on the plus or minus uh performances of players in the statistical category.

Ratings Boom And Final Game 6 Preview

SPEAKER_10

Here's something that I wanted to point out the viewership. I keep talking about that. So through the first three games, and it's on Peacock NBC, the Western Conference Finals were averaging 9.4 million viewers. This last game, I believe, had over 10 million viewers. So there are a lot of eyeballs watching this Western Conference Finals series. That's great for the association and for maybe non-MBA fans to realize that this is something that has intrigued a lot of people through social media, through everyone talking. And this is that over here. So, over 76% of the time, the winners of game five, when the series is tied to all, they go on and win the series in a conference final series. Just food for thought. So get your popcorn ready, anything that you need because this game six. It could be like game one, it could be double overtime, it could it could go on all night because I think we're gonna see some intense basketball, you're gonna see emotions, you're gonna see everything that's great about the NBA playoffs in San Antonio tonight. OKC the defending champs trying to advance. San Antonio playing for their season's life. And whenever you get a chance to talk about the Spurs and Thunder in a meaningful Game Six Western Conference playoff series, it's always good to talk about it.
